Wishing the very best, to you and to Colleen.
Actually, no taxpayer money went into the art. The funds for the art were under one percent of the $1.03 budget for the whole terminal, and these funds came from a variety of sources, including federal Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds, airport bonds, and from a combination of revenue coming in over the next 30 years. These last include rents and fees from airlines, an existing surcharge on passengers, concessions, parking, and rental cars, and some federal grants. The County Board of Supervisors specified the .78 of 1 percent of the total construction budget be spent on art. This is typical of what's done in cities across America. So no taxpayer money was spent on this art.
Three of the twelve artists at the airport are from Sacramento, and another six from the region (Chico, Oakland, Santa Rosa and San Francisco) making nine out of the twelve installations by local or regional artists. Local artists were not only actively encouraged to submit several years ago, but were given strong consideration in the process. And look at it this way: Do you want our Sacramento artists to only be able to apply for commissions inside of Sacramento? Don't we want our local artists to be considered for work nationwide? Great article, by the way! Nice work!
A portobello Reuben with mushrooms replacing meat? Yummmmm. I can hardly wait!
What a wonderful group, and a really cool event! And I LOVE the art!
What a wonderful event!! I used to teach at Arthur Murray's, and this event evoked so many happy memories of all the dance competitions! I will be SURE to catch your next event!
I know things are tough, real tough, in these recessionary times, and I'm sending you compassion because it's clear that you're unhappy. I have researched this candidate, and I'm asking you to post the facts--the statistics, the Sac City election line items, the people who will go on record, etc. --to in any way back up what you're saying. Schenirer's independence is documented, and I will read whatever facts you have to the contrary, but I don't think you'll find them. Being specific and honest are not particularly popular things to do in this overheated political environment, but I am going to respectfully suggest that you consider them both.
Congratulations to all who brought us the first Oak Park Farmer's Market! My husband and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Every booth--both food and information-- had something special, not to mention the great entertainment. I hope even more food booths will follow. See you next Saturday!
The containment cell in this case is not fully enclosed; it is a plastic cap that would sit two feet under the soil, with the toxics beneath it. I didn't think that any trees could grow in two feet of soil, but the developer said at the meeting that small ornamental ones could. I guess they could, but my two foot tall dracaena (a houseplant) is 22 inches tall and has 6 inches of roots. How tall would these trees be?
