I don't know who would want to come with me more... my 10-year old sister, or my mom...
Love the trend of getting the team back out in the community with such force. Every time I pass a particular Raley's I remember the time I met Hedo there back when I was in high school. May have been more than just a girlish crush... ;)
The event was very nice and I would say it could be family friendly if the film is. There are two seating sections (one for 21+ attendees who would like to drink and one for general admission, both are free). It was not incredibly crowded, but I think with some added awareness and no Second Saturday activities to draw people toward Midtown, the film series will be a hit!
I agree, Peak Democracy is an interesting concept, but possibly not very well executed in these cases. I read this piece some time ago and commented on the forum via Capitol Public Radio's site. After much searching, I found the forum again and was only slightly surprised to find that I was still only one of two comments. The SacPress discussion has far out performed the Peak Democracy format. Some of the Mayor's Forums through the SacBee have done better than the Cap Radio version, but SacPress is still the most vibrant and passionate group of responders.
I've seen groups in McKinley and love the practical nature of moving in 'real life'. The community aspect is intriguing and is generally what keeps me motivated in any kind of activity. Signing up immediately.
I'm absolutely for having volunteer crossing guards. Just offering additional thoughts as well. ;)
I love the idea of multiple, themed events throughout the month, but ultimately wouldn't they become more of a drain on resources? The goal behind multiple events would be to draw the same size crowd but more frequently. After all the debate about the K street opening/remaining closed to cars - why not try a street closure during peak SS hours? Prime areas of J and K could be closed to vehicle traffic, preventing the need for crossing guards (though perhaps some additional service at the closure points). I think we all know how futile it is to attempt driving these areas on Second Saturday as it is.
I'd be curious to see what the policy for having "dog park hours" at city parks would be. I've seen dog training groups in McKinley park, and wonder if there is a way to gate off a certain area for occasional meet ups. I think having designated areas at parks would be great, occasional, organized hours might be a way to start!
Tower Cafe quiet on a Saturday and East Sac relatively quiet as well... definitely a testament to Second Saturday's success!
Right around the corner from my office! Can't wait!
Any repeat efforts in the pipeline? Reminds me a bit of last year's Least Amazing Race pub crawl on beach cruisers.
