Conversation about: Get inked at the All-American Tattoo Festival

Courage you say. Positive? Let's view a not so positive side of "ink". As a fellow creative artist, I understand and respect the artistry of tattoos. Adults age 18 and older can pursue tattoos as they wish. With that being said, look around at the underage teenagers that have numerous tattoos on various parts of their bodies. They appear to be done professionally . I believe the California law states - even with parental consent, it is illegal to place tattoos on anyone under 18. So where are children getting them and aren't they too young to make those permanent decisions? Right now I am supporting a 19 year old member of my family with painfully removing his tattoos. He now realizes the decisions made at 16 are not the same decisions he would have made at 19. The cost to remove two of his tattoos could be as high as $6,000, depending on how many times the painful laser will be required to completely remove the ink. His realization came to fruition when he found out tattoos were taboo in the job market and how quickly people misjudged him. I disagree with you allowing underage teenagers age 13 to 17 to view this event without an adult in hopes to capture more business. And I am in total disagreement that children of any age be allowed to view this at all but especially to view it as a positive event.

Very informative article. I am curious as to who determines if that person fits the criteria and is it something the family can get involved with?

Conversation about: More Budget Cuts for Mental Health

Due to the State's heavy spending and lack of money management, a percentage of the Mental Health providers have been forced to close their doors leaving their patients wthout mental illness services. Additional state budget cuts only make the problem worse. What part of that equation does our politicians not get? This is just sad - terribly sad!

Conversation about: Dear Sacramento Police Department: Please Don't Kill Me!

There are two completely different ways to view what happened and two different views to prevent it from happening again. Both views are respectively understood. We must remember that the mentally challenged far too often are left behind to fend for themselves with no place to turn. I see the only answer for a solution is more funding to create additional programs. Controversy is necessary to bring awareness. Awareness is necessary to bring changes. Hats off to you Ms. Tyler for confronting difficult issues.

Conversation about: Mental Health Blues

This article articulates the real issues as they truly are. Awareness is the only way things will begin to change. We must stop the cuts for mental health. It is not their fault the government does not know how to manage money. Cut the government salaries and the surplus of employees and give back to our mentally ill so they can function in our society. We have an obligation to take care of our own. Keep these articles in the forefront and continue the fight.
