I think the real question is "Where was KJ?" Although Vincene gamely explained that he had been called away at the last minute, a colleague told me about an exchange at the end of the previous City Council meeting that casts doubt on that claim - Councilmember and Vice Mayor Lauren Hammond announced that she would be attending the Summit and suggested that the Mayor would be participating as well, but KJ hesitated, implying that the decision had already been made to skip the event as far back as Tuesday (hardly "last-minute"). I also find it interesting that when I checked the online Mayor's Calendar on Saturday, March 7th after the Summit, the last day with any listings was Tuesday, March 3rd, so there was no public information available about where the Mayor was at the end of last week. So much for transparency...
The Sac Ballet does amazing work! Ilana - you're a wonderful spokesperson for this effort, and your picture at the CAC demonstrates the perfect union of beauty, strength, and grace, just as you do in your performances. Yeah, I'm a big fan! We all need to support the efforts of the dancers to make community connections and preserve the Sac Ballet as part of our cultural offerings. Too often, the arts get neglected or dismissed as "non-essential" when budgets and finances loom into the picture. But if we truly want Sacramento to become "the most livable city in America," then we need to treasure and enhance ALL of our offerings - arts, restaurants, entertainment, sports, museums, theatres, etc. I'll definitely be stopping by Mochii this weekend to support your efforts.
Conversation about: New lights, lit
It would be much more helpful if the lights had been installed at a lower level. I drove down that street today on my scooter and the lights were easy to miss - maybe better at night? Really, a better option would have been to have street-level lights that flash when pedestrians are crossing.
