We are not the only city to protest a proposed plant. Most recently, McCloud, California rejected a plant, and Flagstaff did as well. Nestle usually faces opposition, so they shop their plant around until they find a city that is gullible enough to let them take a huge quantity of their water practically for free. I'm sure that the towns that have managed to keep Nestle out have not seen other businesses flee the area.
A very informative book called "Traffic" by Tom Vanderbilt-which was mostly about car traffic-discussed some biking issues. His working theory (which agrees with cognitive psychology research), is that people see what they expect to see. When there aren't many bikes or pedestrians on the road, drivers don't expect and aren't particularly conscious of them. So, the more bikes we get on the road, the better. I was struck by how courteous drivers in Portland are, to bikers and walkers, and I think that part of it is they're just used to sharing the road.
The city clerk is Shirley Concolino. Address: 915 I st. 95814
I was tricked into signing the strong mayor petition, by someone who told me that it was to hold elections for the city budget administration. I don't like to sign petitions but this guy twisted my arm. I believe that the man then pretended I needed to sign two separate things just for that (no mention of the mayor was made), and in reality had me sign the strong mayor petition. If this has happened to you and you want your name taken off the petition, put it in writing and send it to the city clerk ASAP.
