2nd saturday won't be shut down because it's too profitable. however, there is a lack of security for what has become, for 5 months of the year, a large-scale event. despite all the comments in this thread arguing big vs. small picture, i hope everyone can agree that this event is a work in progress. a little more attention and tweaking to the execution could make for a much more pleasurable & safe experience for all, regardless of whether you are a midtown local or a roseville cougar.
i've also wondered what will happen as the fall/winter naturally generate smaller crowds. will these efforts be abandoned? forgotten? passed to the public as solved problems only to rear their ugly heads again next june? it would be nice for the event to bring in revenues for local businesses while reverting back to it's original roots: art! so few come to this event for the art anymore. it's just a drunken street festival.
there are MANY problems with cornerstone moving to 23 & k starting with the fact that building is not outfitted for restaurant use. here are just a few reasons, in my opinion, that permits should not be granted to cornerstone to continue with their construction: 1. depletion of public parking currently available, making it impossible for residents in the area to park their car on public streets. 2. with no alley or space behind the building, where does the operation plan to store trash? 3. once the restaurant is in operation, with no alley access, delivery trucks will be forced to park on 23rd or k street. the noise of delivery trucks pulling up, unloading, etc. will continually disrupt the peace of surrounding residents. there are other commercial properties in midtown that are better suited for a restaurant operation; an old church, which does not currently meet requirements for operation, is not one of them.
no, no, no!! i've been donating to this store for years. sad to see its moving out of the neighborhood, though i understand.
Conversation about: Midtown Residents Launch Campaign to Save Sunny's Market
sunny's is a treasure in midtown!! i lived close to sunny's about 7 years ago and never went in. place was dirty, people were rude, nothing ever in stock. about a month ago, i moved back to this corner of midtown and was thrilled to walk in and discover sunny's was a completely different experience. josh & monica are the sweetest, friendliest people working in midtown. they greet you with genuine smiles and hello's as soon as you walk in. their store is clean, tidy, well stocked and organized. i've signed their petition and encourage anyone in the area to support this establishment, they're top notch.
