This was so refreshing and enjoyable to read. I recall the times well and remember local radio being such an exciting medium to be involved with. I have since moved away from Sacramento but find myself still listening to certain local DJ's over the 'airwaves' in a totally different way, as, today, we have so many different ways to listen to music (internet, satellite, HD, smartphones, etc), so the attachment to one station or a local DJ or two is not as 'big' as it used to be. I loved how you described it, and feel I can relate. It was an exciting time as radio personalities were just that ... personalities! Your line 'I didn’t leave it; it left me.' is so 'right on'!! We may have loads of ways to listen, now, but they actually keep us from finding that little magic it had back in the 80's.
