what a disappointment. billed as a celebration of "the people, places, and events that make our community such a unique place to live," this film festival fell flatter than the floor of the Sacramento Valley. outside a few who focused on the Kings, the rest of the filmmakers did little more to connect their work with Sacramento than include scenes set in various locations around town. that's it. how does this say anything relevant about the people or places of the area? where is the film about Little Saigon? about the experience of farm workers? about the horrors of living in a flood plane? where's the film about about political intrigue? don't tell me there isn't an eager scriptwriter licking her chops to satirize state government's enduring ineptitude. I understand this event showcases local talents with little or no experience, but I think the standard to select films that portray something interesting about Sacramento should be set a bit higher next year.
same amendment!
willing to give this record a spin, but their early four-song demo was the tops for me--no vocals, more hip-hop-like rhythm.
all interesting, I just don't see what a corporate aesthetic is and why it is detested. seems like in the operations of a facility, aesthetic decisions are made based on any number of factors from individual preference to necessity, with corporate protocol being one of many. the ideals of both owners and community are constrained by material circumstance in any case, perhaps less so by corporate resources.
seems inevitable that this area will be redeveloped--no certainty of when, though. the open space south of Cap City near C St. would be perfect for dislocated industrial concerns--definitely no place for a residential community. hate to see much of the blue-collar work in the central city leave for good.
the purpose of community is so we may participate in seemingly meaningless activities, such as sports. "man enters society for mere subsistence, but he stays for the good life."
well, I'm confused. is the parking structure to be built on the vacant lot north of R, east of 16th? will R from 16th-18th be closed to traffic?
grew up on Ford's, but if you want a decently-priced burger at 2:30AM, try Willie's on 16th/Broadway. second on Ikeda's in Auburn.
all else being equal, I really think that a K St. site is best for it will give existing downtown businesses a leg to stand on in competition with new development at the railyards.
what day is the second show?
Conversation about: Fresca Deli calls it quits
many items on their menu were generic and not competitively priced compared to other offerings, but I loved their soups and grilled cheese sandwiches. also, the house salad at $2 and change was a nice deal. overall, their menu was lacking and their pricing didn't fit.
