Love it. This is the best news I've read all year. Great news for Sacramento.
Isn't this the same city council that voted to put the new arena downtown? Yea, enough said.
Shame on Sacramento Press for posting such an isolated incident about a State worker. This happens ALL THE TIME but it's not state workers. It happens with every-day people who should not be allowed to be on the road and does happen - wait for it - every day. This article has been nothing but self-serving for the author and puts Sacramento Press in a new unfortunate light. If I could count the number of times this EXACT situation has happened to me or I have witnessed. The fact is (really) that road rage in Sacramento is nothing new and (especially with the arena being put DOWNTOWN) it will only get worse.
OMG Ronda, you put EVERYONE around you at risk by grabbing your camera while behind the wheel of a car. Shame on you. Your attention to revenge was much stronger than your attention to the road. There are laws just because of people like you. And that is a very good thing.
...oh, and for both of you by the way, way to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road in traffic. Great example for all of us.
Ronda, how fast were you going when you entered the freeway? I simply do not let anyone into my lane unless they match my speed. It is COMMON courtesy - the the spirit of MERGING - to match the speed of your destination lane so that actual merging can take place. If you are not actually at speed, then you are not merging, you are cutting off other drivers.
This is a great campaign by SaveMart. And this is the store that I go to. My name is on one of those!
Without more traffic studies and planning it will be a nightmare for patrons. Mark my words. I was right about the Cal Expo Amphitheatre. I was right about Arco Arena. I was right about K Street. And I was right about Downtown Plaza. Putting this arena downtown - in our hub - is a huge mistake. Sacramento is following their own track record and I am very ashamed of that.
Why is Sacramento so OLD and dowdy. It's embarrassing.
How is county spelled again? ;)
That is awesome, Ben. Great facts. I'm curious to see what will happen knowing that this new development will not be in midtown and will be north of the tracks even. Traffic will be a different story I imagine. And don't get me started as to why Sacramento went with traditional track trains and not monorails. Another classic Sacramento blunder. Tell me, what end of the property is the I Street station? I'm assuming then that the arena will be right there? It seems that your traffic problems are unique to your location. Is that where the gates and parking entrances/exits will be? What about signage? Have you ever been to ArcoPowerbalance arena and tried to leave it? I am very curious indeed.
Oh, I know! Let's have an amphitheater out at Cal Expo! Crap. Lets have Westfield build a mall at K Street because they did such a good job in San Diego! Crap. Let's CLOSE K Street so businesses will be attracted and it will be safer! Crap. Lets build ONE, NO!, TWO arenas that are so crappy that everyone hates them. Crap. Wait, I know. Lets build a THIRD arena DOWNTOWN where the traffic is the WORST in the county!! I know, right? I have such good ideas. Wait, we're OPENING K Street to cars now? Ok, I give. Let's go with that.
Sad news indeed. With Sacramento's track record of failures (the TWO other arenas, downtown plaza, K Street, ETC...) how do we trust them with this? It's shameful that this arena is being planned downtown. Will the parking lot be like the old arena? Designed by the crossword puzzle guy from the NYT? SINGLE LANE exits? No signage to the freeway? MAJOR parking lot rage at Immortal during the exit frenzy. Downtown is just a bad idea. Makes me embarrassed to be a Sacramentan. And really, who cares about how it will be funded if just attending these events will be such a horrid experience. Show me any evidence of how they are solving these problems by putting this arena in the HEART of Sacramento's traffic problems.
Why isn't ALL of this art from Sacramento artists? With a strong (and growing) art community it is shameful that the City of Sacramento has completely lost its loyalty and seems determined to deface its identity.
15%?!? That is way more than I expected. My assumptions are founded and confirmed by your article.
Why isn't this museum IN Sacramento?
A correction to what I wrote. I don't hate jazz. The combination of KXJZ's Saturday afternoon bore-fest and the Sacramento Jazz Fest have CAUSED me to hate jazz. I want to like it. Really. But it's just not contemporary enough for me. smoothjazz.com has even lost its touch.
This is a great article. Until last year, despite the fact that I hate jazz, I have been a regular attendee of the Festival for the last decade. I have always felt that somehow, contrary to reality, Sacramento earned it's "cow-town" image by being dowdy and generally old fashioned. I have the same opinion of KXJZ and KVIE. Both are so old fashioned, dowdy, and frumpy. I think the Jazz Fest name change is a good thing if it truly opens up the event to more contemporary artists.
Wow. How did I not hear about this. Would have been great.
Conversation about: Officials disappointed, but moving forward with intermodal facility
If there is no arena then what intermodal transit facility plan is being worked on? Tracks still moving? Passenger tunnel (aka blunder) still being built? Without that embarrassing arena in the way it doesn't make sense to move the TRAIN tracks away from the TRAIN station.
