Friday Night Concert in the Park, watch Agent Ribbons here

The weather forecast is positive for this Friday Night Concert in the Park.

Join The Sacramento Press at Cesar Chavez Plaza for an eclectic evening of indie music with a visit from headliners Agent Ribbons, former Sacramento girls.

This week’s show kicks off at around 5 p.m., runs until 9 p.m. and will also feature sets from Roman Funerals and Golden Ghosts.

Located between Ninth and 10th and I and J streets, this free, all-ages outdoor concert series will run every Friday until Aug. 12. See a full schedule of this season’s lineup here.

Remember, street parking can be a challenge. If you want to avoid hunting for a spot or parking blocks away from the action, parking is available at the City Hall Garage (10th and I) for $5 after 5 p.m.

In it’s 20th year, Friday Night Concerts in the Park remains the best way to start off our warm summer weekends and showcase Sacramento’s vibrant music scene.

Friday Night Concerts in the Park attracts huge crowds of music lovers from all walks of life. Bring the whole family and enjoy an inexpensive summer evening full of fantastic live music, interesting vendors and delicious food stands. The ever-popular beer garden provides some of the best people-watching of the summer season.

To add to the fun, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership has launched a new SCVNGR Trek for the Concerts in the Park. Download the SCVNGR app before you head out to the show so you can play the “Friday Night Concerts” trek. Complete the challenges to earn points all season long for a chance to win prizes each week.

Stop by the Sacramento Press booth and pick up a free balloon for the kids, sign up for our weekly newsletter and weekly events local page Go.See.Do. You can even rent a blanket to sit on while you watch the bands. All blanket rental proceeds will be donated to charity.

Join us for the King of Feasts Luau

The King of Feasts Wine & Food Luau at the Sacramento Zoo kicks off this evening at 5:30.

Sacramento’s finest restaurants will be dishing out a variety of delectable culinary creations that can be paired with the array of premium local wines, beers and spirits.

The Zoo will boast live music and dance that will set the mood for the safari from the Na Aikane Ukulele Band, VFW Ukulele Band, Kalei Kema Hawaiian guitar and an array of Polynesian dancers.

Guests will not want to miss author, Rick Kushman of " A Moveable Thirst " as he enlightens the crowd with his expert food and wine pairings or the Local Bartenders Guild as they host a Classic Tiki cocktail mixology competition.

The Sacramento Press will be live streaming video at the launch of the first Oak Park Farmers' Market Saturday, May 15.

This new farmers' market will continue throughout the summer every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 34th and Broadway across from Old Soul Coffeehouse .

Join us for the ribbon cutting ceremony and live music as well as all the wonderful fresh produce of the season.

The residents of the Oak Park community have been working for years to bring a farmers' market to this, at times, troubled neighborhood.

The Oak Park Farmers' Market is a project of NeighborWorks Sacramento, in partnership with community residents, community garden advocates, backyard growers, and fresh produce sellers.
Together they have loosely formed the Oak Park Food Collaborative.

In addition to providing the Oak Park Community with weekly local access to fresh fruit and vegetables, the group intends to make Oak Park the sustainable food center of the Sacramento Region.

The Sacramento Press is excited to be using live, streaming video as a new media tool. We hope that by streaming the events we go to live, it will enhance the connection we have with our current readership, engage the community at these events and encourage new readership not just in downtown and Midtown, but all neighborhoods in the Sacramento area.

Our first live streaming video experiment at the de Vere's Irish Pub's St. Patrick's Day block party was a big hit with The Sacramento Press' readers.

St. Patrick's Day allowed us to realize that live video really helps us to showcase the great events happening in our neighborhoods and entice Sacramentans to get out and explore our community and become more involved with where we live.

Visitors to The Sacramento Press will be able to read an article about an event happening in our community, click on an embedded link in the body of the article and watch the excitement as it happens.

When we live-stream video of events in Sacramento this summer, we plan to bring our readers live footage of all the entertainment as well as interviews with performers, participants, sponsors and involved organizations. We hope to get valuable feedback from our readers on our event coverage as well as opinions on how well The Sacramento Press serves the people of Sacramento.
