One of my earliest memories is of Camp Sacramento. My brother cried the whole time we were there.
He was such a baby... Well I guess he actually was. We were about 3 and 4.
I remember watching my parents dance at the lodge.

I checked out the the Marshall School /New Era facebook page and there is absolutely no back up to the statement Red Lotus is closing.
Wouldn't it be nice to let the owners of Red Lotus make that announcement if it's true instead of doing them the grave disservice of spreading rumors of their closure? I'm just saying....

I guess I also have to back track a little on my previous comment too, and agree with Aaron. We have no true sports bar in down town/mid town...I hope the De Veres and the Wong family can deliver an exciting new twist to the sports bar concept.

The weather forecast is positive for this Friday Night Concert in the Park.

Join The Sacramento Press at Cesar Chavez Plaza for an eclectic evening of indie music with a visit from headliners Agent Ribbons, former Sacramento girls.

This week’s show kicks off at around 5 p.m., runs until 9 p.m. and will also feature sets from Roman Funerals and Golden Ghosts.

Located between Ninth and 10th and I and J streets, this free, all-ages outdoor concert series will run every Friday until Aug. 12. See a full schedule of this season’s lineup here.

Remember, street parking can be a challenge. If you want to avoid hunting for a spot or parking blocks away from the action, parking is available at the City Hall Garage (10th and I) for $5 after 5 p.m.

In it’s 20th year, Friday Night Concerts in the Park remains the best way to start off our warm summer weekends and showcase Sacramento’s vibrant music scene.

Friday Night Concerts in the Park attracts huge crowds of music lovers from all walks of life. Bring the whole family and enjoy an inexpensive summer evening full of fantastic live music, interesting vendors and delicious food stands. The ever-popular beer garden provides some of the best people-watching of the summer season.

To add to the fun, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership has launched a new SCVNGR Trek for the Concerts in the Park. You make a really valid point here Treed.
My mother lives in McKinley Park and the parking on her street is so restrictive visitors can not park until after 7pm. Monday -Saturday...She can't have friends over for a backyard bar-B-que on a Saturday afternoon for fear they'll get a ticket unless she buys a special permit... It can be frustrating to sa the least and not what I'd want for my neighborhood.

I agree with Lindol 100%.,,This new guy's insecurities about the ex sets off warning signals for me. I have dealt with the same situation, ignored the warnings and got stuck with a jealous and controlling boyfriend for longer than I care to admit. The ex, on the other hand ,was a great support during a nasty breakup with Mr. Jealous ,a true friend and gets on well with my current boyfriend...I'd give the new guy a chance to work out his problem but certainly not tailor my friendship to accommodate his issues.

@ Dale... I hesitate to name names in my comment because I am not a spokesman for the church I mentioned . I can assure you that the problem is the transient population... The church has a very dynamic homeless assistance program and currently allows many individuals to sleep on their property. Unfortunately the church does not have the financial resources to pay for security to police the ground every night when the 'misbehaviors' occur.
By the way, I did mention children and the elderly(seniors) in my quote...

Drug use and sales , public urination and defecation , and drunk and disorderly behavior unfortunately are a fact of life where our transient population congregate.
The complaints of the Buddhist Church mentioned above are not isolated. As a relative of a board member of a mid town church experiencing the exact same issues, I understand the concerns of the Buddhist Church's representative. The problems listed above are so out of control, the mid town church is considering disallowing the homeless to camp overnight on church property.
An organization that provides services for children and the elderly, regardless of it's location, should not have to worry about cleaning feces and drug paraphernalia away from the playground fence of their preschool and front steps or worry about their visitors being accosted by drunken people.

Great points .Education is key.If you know how to ride a bike with a fixed gear well you don't need a break , If you get a fixie just to be a style train jumper, it becomes obvious pretty quickly that it's too much for your skill set. Cops can tell if you can't ride the bike well and they definitely notice if you flaunt traffic laws. Serves you right if you get a ticket for no break if you draw their attention.
Funny story...When I was racing (years ago) we used fixies as trainers to build endurance and regular cadence . I used to ride my fixie to work at a little coffee house and leave it unlocked in the doorway. This jerk tried to steal it and was pitched off the bike in seconds...Hilarious!

i like '' the eyes on the street '' angle mentioned above. Helping the community catch bad guys by giving descriptions of perps , their cars, etc. is a great idea. Word of mouth and Facebook postings from cab driving friends seem to be only place I receive accurate info about crime in the center city.
I read a Facebook posting about the Panda Express shooting minutes after the incident. Apparently the cops thought the shooting was gang related from the beginning...

I would also love to see The Sac Press clear up the misinformation mentioned in David's article...
