Wow, an ice rink. That seems like a great idea for a distict like downtown that can afford it. If this uses up the funds that are much needed for lighting, street and sidewalk cleaning, and street scape, then I'm against it. I know an ice rink is much more glamorous than a streetlight, But it's just one event versus a capital investment. Now that we finally have some money to work with in Midtown, I just don't understand why the basics are still ignored. I look over at the filthy street, gutters and sidewalks and dead plants at the restaurant across the street and wonder why anyone passing by would want to stop. To get people to really want to stroll the sidewalks of Midtown, they need to at least be clean. When a fried egg is allowed to sit on the sidewalk for a week, or a sleeping bag in the gutter, what does that say about the quality of our businesses and the pride in our district? I think the money would be better spent on cleaning, landscaping and streetlighting that would be a real investment in Midtown.
