Got to love the Mexico thread! Well, my little family and I live in the village of Aticama Nayarit during the winter months and in Portland Oregon the rest of the year. It is coming on 25 years that I have been in Ejido Aticama and I have never, ever, not once, seen someone sleeping in the street or on a corner because they had to. In Portland I have raised money to help shelter the hundreds of people sleeping on the street EVERY NIGHT. I am no expert on Mexican health care but I can tell you first hand (and provide photos to prove it) that the clinics I have seen were clean and open to all, regardless of nationality. My daughter was born at General Hospital in Tepic 5 years ago. Excellent care, every bit as good as Good Samaritan in Portland. Cost in USA for my son's hassle free delivery 9 years ago? $16,000 us dollars. Cost for my daughter? $125.00 (one hundred and twenty five dollars us). Hmmmmmmm.......... I have traveled and lived in Mexico for over 35 years and it is true - there are at least 2 Mexicos. The big 98% of all Mexicans style Mexico that Aticama speaks of and then there is the 2% Mexico that Cris and Trapper speak of. Both are correct in their own fashion - as true as a new Rolls Royce is not a beater '82 Oldsmoble, even though both are cars and do the same basic thing. Its just not likely that you would find Cris driving the latter! In closing I would ask any Mexican Health Care Basher this question - "If you didnt have a dollar to your name, where would you rather live on the street, here in the USA or in Mexico?" Before you answer, take a drive downtown in any major city and take a good look and smell..........
