That's quite patronizing. If you're shuttling around government workers, you're not UNEMPLOYED, are you? I would bet you and I make a comparable amount hourly... if I don't make more money riding a pedicab. When's the last time you really physically worked your ass off, and a pleased customer tipped you over a hundred dollars in one night?

Say what you will about Obama, I don't care much to argue politics on the internet, but I operate a pedicab, and I am most certainly not unemployed. I have a business license, and I use it.

I didn't know about Sutter's Landing until some friends told me about it. Does have the city dump undeveloped feel about it. And that skate park could be so much better. They really should try to develop the area, but there's no hiding the dump and places like Miller Park, Ancil Hoffman Park or Discovery Park would be better venues for a Sutter's Landing City Event. They really need to open a Mongolian BBQ and BMX park in Downtown Sac. I'm putting all my hats in the ring for that one. YO BMX.

Depends how far you'd like to go, we usually ask for tips, or can quote flat rates. Generally, we charge $3.00 flag drop minimum, $0.50 cents a block, so 10 blocks away we'd like to see around $5-10 dollars. Or tips welcome.

We take people on tours or take people home. Seats about 2 adults comfortably, although you can get 4 people in the back if you're creative. We have 2 to 3 pedicabs out every THU/FRI/SAT night in midtown/downtown grid and now rivercats games as much as possible. Flag us down or Call for a ride at 916-265-8640 Unit One or email us on our website to arrange a special pickup - Thanks, Brian (http://www.ridevelocab.com)

I think this is an ingenious idea - I enjoy the history - and hope more people will take advantage of these cabs. Personally I walk and ride my bike to most places I cannot take transit to, so this wouldn't be a necessity for me but it would seem to be ideal, especially for those who might need a break from walking around midtown on a busy weekend! Personally, I hope the cabs replace the horse carriages simply from a humane perspective.

The meeting with the Mayor went smoothly. II was able to talk with KJ and present the idea after a few minutes of discussion with members of his team. They were receptive ... we shook hands and they referred me to a Parks and Rec manager with whom I discussed the event in more detail. Is it going to happen? Is someone at the city going to take it and run with it? I don't know. Something like this takes months and months to put together and promote so this summer is not going to happen ... if it is done officially. Hhhmmm ... maybe something can happen UN-officially ... a spontaneous celebration ... hmmmmm

I like this idea. Sutter may not have been anyone's idea of a great guy, but he did found the city, and more importantly, Sutter's Landing needs more traffic so that it becomes a more significant city park. As it is, it still feels mostly like...the old city dump! I guess that's part of its charm if you're a skater, but it could really use some love.

as a first time participant of the CIM this year, I too was very inspired by all the fans along the course!! It definitely helped out near the end when I was running out of gas. And if anyone is interested in training for/running the Shamrockn 1/2 Marathon in March, you can sign up with a local non-profit, Runnin' For Rhett, and receive 10 weeks of training and meet lots of really great people! And the couple who put this organization together are very inspiring individuals. www.runninforrhett.com

as a runner in this years cim, i was inspired by the massive amount of fans who lined the course, all the way from its beginning in folsom to its finish at the steps of the capitol in the heart of downtown. aside from the whopping 7,000+ runners, there were also hundreds of volunteers, and not a single stretch of the race was without a cheering fan or fifty vociferously expressing their enthusiasm along the side of the course. the cim seems to be one of the largest, and under the radar, events which sacramento can take great pride in. if nothing else, it deserves far more recognition than it receives.
