Looks like a fun event - especially like the picture with Mattie & Ella who looked to really be having a fun time!
Maybe it's me $165.00 for bands that don't even have original singers ( I remember seeing Foreigner as part of a package of 5 Bands for $5.00 at the Philly Spectrum) - it would be one thing if it were at a local bar, but a multi-thousand seat venue? Then I see incredible musicians and bands, with current offerings - often having been around longer than the above mentioned playing to a hundred or less people, lucky to get $10-20.00 per head - but again, I can not understand the facination that puts shows like Dancing with Stars on the top of the ratings charts! - to each his (or her) own, for me I will go with a show at the Palms, the Torch Club, Marylins, Harlows, Grass Valley Center for the Arts or perhaps my favorite The Auburn Event Center - regardless, go enjoy live music, and have fun! - be it Foreigner or Dave Alvin and the Guilty Ones! - thanks for the article!
Fun story - so many hidden jems to stumble upon, one day I would like to puruse some of these places
Wish I was there - will need to not miss the Chuck Berry show - Jerry rocks, and we are so lucky to have so many incredible "local" musicians!
Hey Holly - I have drifted away from the Sacramento Press, I shouldn't have - some nice reviews, great job - thank you! - I hope you can make it to some of my shows in Auburn! Dave Alvin (10-14), Wayne Hancock (10-30) , Great American Taxi (11-11-11 !!) or the New Riders of the Purple Sage (12-2-11) - and at each show some incredible openers from around the area - all incredible musicians themselves! - I think you will have a good time!
I thought I left a comment I guess not - as a member of the Auburn Rec District - I can not say how proud and happy about this event - it was a pleasure to Join with my sometimes partner Jason to bring this show to Auburn - Jason had a vision & it played out almost perfectly - It was a great day & these great pictures show a lot of the fun - Ron you are a great photograper & these pics sure help this ole man to be able to Keep Smilin'!!!
We are blessed in the Auburn community to have numerous youth activities, In fact the park where this happened includes a public swimming pool available at real low cost, we have youth team sports, activities such as ping-pong, we built a skate park, we have open gym time for free - hell we have lakes and rivers my kids go to all the time, we have driving ranges, movie theaters. These kids (I am assuming here) have tons of stuff they can do, we have a free to attend Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Future Farmers, we have an off road motorcycle area, we have performing arts programs- that excuse does not fly MrEd - we are not talking about kids smoking pot or other harmless bored kid activities - we are talking crimes that are hurting people & sending them to the hospital, and others that are costing thousands of dollars putting them into the felony area - For all I know this was a prank to put on You-Tube - it is getting worse and worse -I think we need to have serious consequenses for parents and kids - Make them think very hard when they light that match - Making excuses and blaming society allows for acceptance and excuse of bad behavious - we need to instill individual responsibility & accountability!
OOPS - Friday June 18!
I would love to invite all the readers & staff of the Sacramento Press to come up to this years Party in the Park in Auburn on June 19th 2010 - Headlining is the incredible Billy Joe Shaver - who has been called the Sonwriter for Outlaw Country (you might have heard about his recent receipt of a Not Guilty verdicet in a barroom shooting incident) - Johnny Cash has called him his favorite songwriter - Elvis & Bob Dylan have recorded his songe & Waylons Honky Tonk Heroes LP is all Billy Joe - great local talent Bob Woods Trio w/ Pete Grant will open - visit www.partyinthepark.net for more - this truly is a "community" event ie the Greater Sacramento Community - streaming would be cool! - Plan on taking a nice trip up the hill - it will be fun & you will find many of your friends and neighbors there!
I did not go due to the cost - while I like the Eagles, I would rather pay $15.00 for a local show featuring a great act- recently I saw Paul Barrare & Fred Tackett form the Band Little Feat - classic and seasoned musicians & a great show. I understand the attendance was so low at this show people up top got to move down to the floor. There is so much terrific music out there on any given night, I think most folks will find if they give it a chance they will find the quality of music is incredible & the atmosphere is great - be it a band like the Nibblers at the Torch or perhaps a Free concert such as Auburn's Party in the Park - this year featuring a true legend in Billy Joe Shaver - Support Local Music! (nice review & I am happy for those who had a good time, nothing beats live music)
This is great , I just may need to stop by & Support Local Music, and while I''m at it will likely spend a few bucks at at least one of the stops. Thanks for the heads up!
I think the only real leverage the City has is PR against Westfield, I think the Mayor realizes the tough guy approach likely is not the best way to go at this company. Developing a working relationship and give & take is the key, I do not think there are huge lines to buy struggling / declining shopping centers. Hopefully the city will provide some good incentives to Westfield, as the long term revenue I am sure will pay off great dividends!
Pretzels and beer, (you asked!) , - does sound like a good event - hope it is successful, keep smilin'!
Personally I like the mayors "an environment where all boats are rising" comment, not sure where that came from, but did make me smile (o.k chuckle)! - btw what kind of leverage does the city have to force a sale? And what terms could the city require for a potential buyer? This strong mayor thing sounds good but is there bite with that bark? What incentives are being given to Westfield to invest in this location vs others, there has to be a win-win I would think. With what I understand as to be the direction of the master plan for this area, SRO's don't seem to fit, while this may not seem compasionate, lines need to be drawn to create an environment that encourages commerce & participation of both the vendor and customer. By creating a vibrant center for entertainment, dining & shopping - taxes will increase and more money will be available to address the other issues facing a big city - be it SRO's, tent cities or otherwise -
Ok Ok - I saw it "invided"!! I'm beggin' for a pitty edit
KDVS 90.3 is great, and located right next to my KVMR 89.5! Viva the left side of the dial!
I love a great dog story! (I still want to strangle the writers of Marley and Me) way to go Buck!
I can't wait 'till this stops - I know the bubble had to burst, and I obviously the some more deflation to come, but I hope it is getting close & the healing can begin!
Conversation about: Grammy Award Winning Dave Alvin comes to Auburn
Excuse the typos & questionable grammer - I try, and I do hope you will come up and join in the fun - Come early and stop in Old Town - grab a cold one at the Auburn Ale House!
