Conversation about: Sacramento v. Food: New website launches mobile food tracker

Thanks Ben! You're the second person to recommend using the twitter geocoding features. I thinks it's a fantastic suggestion. Right now we populate the map by manually entering the information into the backend database. I call it the techno-hobo approach. Once some of the major flaws are worked out this week, I hope to continue to get more input from the trucks. With more involvement from the trucks and other vedors, I do think it will prove a useful tool for everyone who's into mobile/street food! Big thanks to Sacpress and Erica for the writeup.

Well written article, Erica! Just to let everyone know, Grubtopia.com is still in "beta" mode, but we're unveiling some new changes and bug fixes this weekend. If anyone has any comments or suggestions for the site, you can email me directly at alirezareports@gmail.com or grubtopia@gmail.com Thanks!

This is an awesome enhancement.... I love it. If anyone wants more info on honesty, integrity, and accountability in journalism, the society of professional journalists also puts out a great code of ethics (http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp). Sometimes I also like to think it applies to everyday life too. :-)

Conversation about: Extra funds for R Street improvement project

I believe the original funding for the project is part of a federal earmark. I'm not clear as to whether the 1.5 million is a new grant, or money in the earmark that wasn't used yet and is now being freed up to add these "icing on the cake" improvements. Can someone clear that up?

Conversation about: Volunteers Reign At Tahoe Park

Nice job neighbors! But the wind came through that night, knocked all the garbage cans over, and spewed trash all over the park again. I picked up some of it yesterday, including some crumpled pornography in the children’s playground (wtf??) So, Tahoe Park needs your help again. If everyone who uses the park picks up a piece of trash or two throughout the week, we should be okay again. :-)

Conversation about: Trails still going at 70

Maybe not as subtle as one would think. Check out the result of an extremely lazy googling: http://books.google.com/books?id=S85vZgb7RpYC&lpg=PA57&ots=Z47kI33X1v&dq=sacramento%20%22whites%20only%22&pg=PA57#v=onepage&q=sacramento%20%22whites%20only%22&f=false Popular SP contributer, William Burg, has pointed out some of the blatant, and not so blatant segregation practices in our city's past. Let me just end by saying... THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TRAILS and I hope they stay in business another 70 years. ó_ò

Conversation about: Trails still going at 70

I was there once about 5 years ago, I sat at the counter and ordered bbq chicken. The gentleman behind the counter was attentive and friendly, and he promptly microwaved my meal in front of me before serving it. Absolutely no pretentions there. They way I see it, everyone needs a favorite place to eat, and for 70 years Trails has been very good to some. Eating there is sort of a right of passage in this town, every Sacramentan should go once. The decor and the atmosphere will definetely take you back. To where? I'm not sure. But I remember washing my hands in the restroom and being suprised NOT to see a "whites only" sign above the sink.

Seriously. It may not be the best burger ever, but it harkons back to childhood or something special. Although repeated trips for the double deluxe add bacon add pastrami will render you to a child-like state.

Conversation about: Historic North Sacramento skating rink burns down

Man, I have a really fond memory of this place . I spent a fun night out there with college buddies when I had just moved into town. We played that broom stick ball game for hours, must of fell on my ass at least 50 times. I sure hope they rebuild. It was a unique part of the city. Side note: Is the irony of an ice rink catching on fire lost on anyone?

I just discovered the Village Drive-In in Tahoe Park. The double deluxe add pastrami, add bacon will induce a blissfull 3 day coma. This place is truly the definition of hidden gem. Also, I like how this post is tagged patiotism and religion. Was a tax-freeTea Party burger supposed to be on the list?

Conversation about: ”OLD SOUL” ALLEY PROJECT RECEIVES MAJOR BOOST

This pilot project sounds worthwhile. May i also suggest the city consider installing pedestrian crossing lights for the crosswalk on J and 20th Streets? With the MARRS - Midtown Art Retail Restaurant Scene attracting so many customers, and cars zipping down J, I think it would be a small investment with a large return in public safety.
