Sacramento Capitals marquee player, Mardy Fish, the top ranked American at No. 9 in the world, cancelled his appearance at the Capitals home match Friday night against the Newport Beach Breakers. Friday was scheduled to be his only appearance for the Capitals this season. 29 year old Fish has suffered from an abdominal muscle injury for weeks, since the first round of the French Open. He was reinjured Sunday during the Davis Cup Quarterfinals loss against Spain. Despite the absence of Fish, the Capitals managed a 13-9 halftime lead, winning the men’s singles and women’s doubles, but losing the men’s doubles. Serena Williams showed her championship style before a sold-out World Team Tennis crowd at the 2500-seat Sacramento Capitals stadium on Saturday night.
