Seems to me that the statistics paint a picture where a justification for increased police presence simply doesn't exist. That's not to say that there isn't more crime, or that there isn't justification for increased presence. What Midtown residents may need to explore is whether they need to agree as a community to report all crimes in order to provide law enforcement with a body of statistical evidence that can justify increased presence and patrols, or that can justify further regulation of events such as the Second Saturday Art Walk.
Can someone explain the difference between Second Saturday events in Sacramento and Folsom insomuch as I've never heard of Folsom having problems like those documented in Sacramento? Is there something they're doing that Sacramento is not? Unless the difference is purely demographic, or even socioeconomic, it would seem that however they have things structured in Folsom is perhaps how things could be structured in Sacramento.
Hm... interesting situation, I'd try looking at Cal. Penal Code Sec 632(a). http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=pen&group=00001-01000&file=630-638
Casey - any chance you can fix his community tag too? It's Danielle Barbe, not Garbe. :o)
I thought it was a valiant effort by both bands. The crowd just wasn't there. It was a chilly Monday night in December, so I wasn't expecting much. The sound was studio clean. Like many musicians and bands who've been touring for a quarter century or more, they know how to play and perform. It was well worth $10. Lindol - it was great seeing you out there. With your little black notebook out, and your focus on everything down to the positioning of equipment on the stage, I was excited to read your review. Great job!
Great work for sure. These two teams have shown that either can win on any given day. Parity only adds to the rivalry.
I agree. If we're going to open up the field to alternative sports, then we should include those that attract young people now -- BMX, surfing, wakeboarding, skateboarding, ... Maybe have exhibitions of both indoor and open air skydiving. for those purists who believe the Olympics shouldn't allow alternative sorts in, I hear you! I'm a purist at heart. However, we opened the flood gates years ago. Few keep up with the biathlon, pentathlon, heptathlon, or even the decathlon. Might as well try the new stuff out.
Great shots. Solid coverage. The Park has been getting some great select performance artists. BEP was there not long ago. I wonder who'll be next.
Great work Lindol! I believe Dennis Green is correct when he says that there's more than enough room in the market for the UFL. The model he points to is that of pro soccer in Europe. Though past precedent paints a less than perfect picture regarding what we might expect at season's end, I agree that this time looks and feels different. That could be my general optimism and love of the game laced with local bias, but I agree with Coach Green, there are lots of great players in this league. I'm looking forward to seeing Daunte Culpepper throw deep balls to Fred Otis Amey, Cameron Colvin, and the other Mountain Lion receivers.
Interesting read. I haven't followed DMB much since the days when Lindol and I were both up in the PNW. I thought bands generally selected tour sites based on a a list of criteria that includes such things as regional sales volume, prior history, financial guarantees, tour traffic and logistics, and other various factors that make it both feasible and worthwhile. I suppose they could also just like or dislike a particular town. Raley Field is a great venue, and it would be great to see more shows there. Sleep Train, though not considered to be in the Sacramento area per se, is a place I believe many here regard as being as much a part of the community as the wine country regions of Amador, Lodi, and even Napa. Shoreline feels a bit foreign, but Sleep Train is local in my book. Still, I see your point, the drive isn't the greatest, and a walk/bike ride/taxi/bus/whatever from the grid to the ball park to see a show would definitely be easier. I guess the question might be who is buying DMB's music and where do they live?
Thank you! It was an amazing and inspiring experience. Thank you, and those who were on stage with you, for stepping up to showcase all the hard work and dedication required to achieve excellence in natural physical composition and conditioning required to be who you are. I'd be the first to attend a workshop designed to jump start the transformation of life and lifestyle by way of the diet and exercise principles you all live by.
Great shots! Thanks for teaching me about the sport and allowing me to shoot by your side. I was impressed with the fan turnout, and I'm confident even more people will come out for regionals.
Great reporting! So are we half a game back entering the game tonight?
This reads more like an op-ed counter attack than news. I certainly don't see it as being the position of The Sacramento Press. I think it appropriate to note both.
Bill, I responded to your comment below in a new comment rather than a reply. I'd love to get your thoughts on that. Apologies for breaking the chain. :o)
One of the great things about this site is the song archive. Not only is it great for fans, but also for bands who have up to date contact information. They can be contacted about playing future shows simply because booking agents, club owners, and other interested parties can hear their music and get in touch.
Bill, thanks for your comment. I suppose the thumbs down without comment leaves me concerned and confused because I really would like to improve my style. I know the old saying, "you can't please all of the people all of the time;" however, if there's no action in furtherance of improvement based on review elements such as the thumbs down, then what's the point? In order to take cation, I believe I simply need feedback. I actually didn't know there was controversy surrounding the matter. I don't remember an unsafe or unsavory Midtown. I operate from the position that Midtown is a fantastic place now, and can only improve through forms of collective community-building that further the area's social and economic interests. That said, I suppose I never really considered a pub crawl to be a bad thing. I can see how it could be. In this case it was not. Perhaps coverage of such events should be more carefully constructed so as not to undermine the hard work long-time residents have put in to cause the area to be as great as it is today. I'd love to find out, perhaps through a survey or through a community forum, exactly what kinds of event ideas long-term residents would be in favor of. When that information is available, more effective community event planning can occur. How about an art crawl where people can go from gallery to gallery and not only see and purchase the art on display, but also meet the artists and even participate in mini workshops where they learn about particular forms and make pieces of their own? Combine it with a sort of passport and map, and a game could be created. Perhaps just like the Foursquare pub crawl, a social media application such as Foursquare could be used to direct traffic, show trending galleries, offer tips, and allow for check-ins. What do you think of that, and what kind of event do you suggest?
Great writing for sure. Looks like attendance is improving as well. As the race heats up for first in the division, I really hope more fans come out to support our local team.
Conversation about: Business community helps Shady Lady staff
It's definitely great to see the community rally in support of Shady Lady and its staff. I think it's high time ABC's archaic policies and procedures were revised. It's time to accelerate filing and payment processes with new technology, and it's time for revised information and outreach materials that reflect the many nuances of existing rules and regulations. Imposing a suspension is inconsistent with the city, county, and state goals of generating revenue from taxes. Taking a business out of the stream of commerce, even temporarily, for a relatively immaterial violation hurts more than it helps. ABC should impose a fine, give 24 hours for updated documentation, and allow the business to continue operating. If a failure to comply within that period occurred, that could result in suspension.
