Sacramento has long been a treasure trove for indie music. Mixing classic late-1990’s post-grunge rock and pop, The Resurrection Men’s self-titled EP solidifies the band’s appeal to a hip, mainstream audience, and proves that indie music is no longer solely the refuge of too-cool-for-school hipsters. Opening with “Seroquel,” The Resurrection Men boldly blend rapid-fire vocals with a melodic weave of driving aural bliss. The strong drumming, matched with catchy guitar riffs, makes this fast-paced song an instant attention grabber. Slowing it down a bit with “Disappointed,” lead singer Lucky Calloway delivers deep, soulful lyrics, reminiscent of pre-ballad foreshadowing tracks recorded b

On Thursday August 12, Dane Drewis performed at Crawdad's on the River located at 1375 Garden Highway in Sacramento. Set on a floating stage that connects to a floating venue, the scene at Crawdad's is unique. River wakes cause the place to rock and roll. Boaters out on the river can pull up and dock alongside the floating venue and join in the festivities. On this night, Drewis and his band were excited. Both Dane and his younger sister Janel are competing in the upcoming American Idol preliminaries being held first in Sacramento at Arden Fair Mall from 10am to 2pm on Tuesday August 17, and followed quickly by a round at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Thursday August 19. Seems to me that the statistics paint a picture where a justification for increased police presence simply doesn't exist. That's not to say that there isn't more crime, or that there isn't justification for increased presence. What Midtown residents may need to explore is whether they need to agree as a community to report all crimes in order to provide law enforcement with a body of statistical evidence that can justify increased presence and patrols, or that can justify further regulation of events such as the Second Saturday Art Walk.
Can someone explain the difference between Second Saturday events in Sacramento and Folsom insomuch as I've never heard of Folsom having problems like those documented in Sacramento? Is there something they're doing that Sacramento is not? Unless the difference is purely demographic, or even socioeconomic, it would seem that however they have things structured in Folsom is perhaps how things could be structured in Sacramento.
Hm... interesting situation, I'd try looking at Cal. Penal Code Sec 632(a). http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=pen&group=00001-01000&file=630-638

Conversation about: Business community helps Shady Lady staff
It's definitely great to see the community rally in support of Shady Lady and its staff. I think it's high time ABC's archaic policies and procedures were revised. It's time to accelerate filing and payment processes with new technology, and it's time for revised information and outreach materials that reflect the many nuances of existing rules and regulations. Imposing a suspension is inconsistent with the city, county, and state goals of generating revenue from taxes. Taking a business out of the stream of commerce, even temporarily, for a relatively immaterial violation hurts more than it helps. ABC should impose a fine, give 24 hours for updated documentation, and allow the business to continue operating. If a failure to comply within that period occurred, that could result in suspension.
