As we move through this recession as a nation, understanding so much about what we have enjoyed, we must remain vigilant in trying to get back to who we were as a nation. White picket fences, friendly neighbors and growing communities. During the toughest of times, families maintain their balance by depending on each other. The same must be true for our neighborhoods, our communities and our nation. I had moved onto our avenue at the request of my aunt who owns a home here. In the recent weeks, so much has impacted our neighborhood. The strength of our resolve came from neighbors holding hands and helping each other overcome our challenges. "Public Hearings" means public hearings ! How can we justify this project when the public has not had an opportunity to weigh in its considerations and concerns, as is being done here. Let me be the first to thank you Councilman Steve Cohen, for responding to our urgent request for a response to this very important matter. As you can tell, there needs to be additional focus and attention given to the varied points of view, as is relfected here. Please encourage that effort so that our community may weigh in. I would like to hear from the community of "Ben Ali", so that we hear their concerns and considerations.
These are federal funds, and as such have strict guidelines on how these dollars should be used. I suggest that you call a press conference and get the media involved. Let it become a news item and file a formal complaint with HUD, all the way to the top. This game of chess has to stop !

My thoughts: It was shortsighted to spend $40 million on the repair to the "Boat" section of I 5, and not fix the potential problem that lay below, based on an assumption.
