BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS SOUGHT AS “CANCER COACHES” (SACRAMENTO, Calif.) – Breast cancer survivors who would like to coach women who have recently been diagnosed with the disease are invited to attend a free orientation and training session Saturday, May 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The training is part of the WeCARE Peer Navigator Program, a cooperative effort of the UC Davis Cancer Center and the Safeway Foundation. Peer navigators from the throughout the region are trained in the skills necessary to help newly diagnosed women cope with their breast cancer diagnosis, the treatment and the many emotional issues that can result. All breast cancer survivors who are at least two years beyond treatment are welcome to participate, regardless of where they received treatment. Navigators must be available as needed for up to six months to work one-on-one with a patient and attend additional one-day training sessions. The training will be held at the UC Davis Facilities Services and Support Building (FSSB), 4800 Second Ave. Sacramento, second-floor classroom. Free visitor parking is available near the building.
