A real eye sore. I tried contacting Union Pacific home office in Chicago a few years back to see if they wouldn't be willing to put a coat of paint. Told CAL TRANS is connected to this bridge in part as in lease in part..Contacted CAL TRANS paint dept but no result. I Street bridge not a very nice contrast to our beautiful Capitol bridge. Wish Sacramento city officials had some clout somewhere to get a push to get this huge eye sore handled and a coat a paint on this historic bridge of ours. I actually started with city officials who told me to contact Union Pacific years ago. Anyone out there have any ideas about getting a coat of paint on this wonderful bridge of ours?

I love this idea advocate. I was at the town hall meeting on second Saturday a few weeks ago and posted a comment to that same idea and if ending at six would still give families plenty of time to go out to one of our many fine restaurants to end and artful day. A win win for everyone and as you stated Saturday day is when local businesses that are closed at night now can benefit from being open during regular business hours and gives the public more opportunity to have exposure to all that we offer in Midtown

The cars parading down J street from 4th-28th was awesome and some real beauties and memories. Unfortunately regular traffic was mixed up with the parade. Classics in the right hand lane and regular traffic in left. Signal lights stopped the parade as lights went from red to green. This was a big upset for me. I don't see why SPD couldn't not put a couple of barriers on each side street from 4th-21st at corner of J and each of the side streets halting most all regular autos from entering J street and close down J from 4th-28th for the short time the parade went thru downtown and midtown. hire sac steet guides to monitor the cars that are parked on J street for business so they can exit J street at any time.
Another viewpoint is the cars were moving too too fast just able to catch them in a blink of an eye.
The. The bands were terrific just awesome, but unfortunately not many viewers and the same for the cars. The crowds were very small. More marketing must be done thru the net and early flyers to promote this event. This could be our "HOT AUGUST NIGHTS" if done right and could bring mucho business to local downtown and midtown businesses. A marching band in front of the parade of cars would slow them down so we could all see them better. Having them on display on the side streets from 22nd -25th was way cool, and wish there had been more cars. I actually thought that all the guys that were taking their cars to "Hot August Nights in Reno were going to stop here in Sac do our parade stay over night then proceed onto Reno on Sunday to be there for start of Reno's Hot August Nights on Monday, but I don't think that happened, but could if promoted right I believe. I want to thank all who put this awesome event together as even though it could have been much better it was still a thrill for all of us lucky enough to see the parade of cars and get to wave to the people in the cars "all smiles" of admiration for their beauty and view the cars on the side streets and watch and listen and even dance to the fantastic bands who probably were not paid but volunteered their time for us. Thank all of you for making our downtown and midtown sparkle Saturday night.

Why wasn't the baby tried saving? This wasn't a longhorn steer or Brahma bull. I wished like others that with as many farmers and cattle folks around that other solutions weren't tried. No blame here to the great farmers and ranchers and 4 H . They always bring us much education and fun with their beautiful animals.

You do not evaluate and invalidate someone in public in front of others and especially our mayor berating city council members at a public forum such as council meetings. The berating of other members of the council by the mayor only degrades further the leadership of this mayor and lowers the credibility of this city council from my viewpoint

I am disabled and was close to living in a card board box on the river. This is the best offer for the homeless i have seen since living in Sacramento. Why are most of you dragging a gift horse in the mouth thru the wastelands?. Why such negativity to those who want to help the homeless? You disgust me. I applaud Mercy and those who want to make a difference in our community and to help the homeless and disabled. This is the best of the best and I hope this becomes a reality. I understand everyone's concern above, but the bottom line is "lets go with the flow and handle any problems if any when they arise after the building is built. How about it guys?
the obama health care will call for every American to buy insurance at arbitrary figures including all private business for employees taking more money out of the american taxpayer who is already underpaid or out of work. 500 billion in cuts to medicare. so what does this have to do with an new arena issue well sir if a person has an even greater financial burden put on one from horrible health care bill that one can't buy a ticket to a game that has everything to do with why we don't need a new arena. OPEC is just a another burden gas tax wise at over $3.00 a gallon on why most can't afford to see a game at the arena or special event causing a further no need for an new arena. We have always had tax increases up until about 20 years ago when these tax icreases stopped causing our state to go to hell in a hand basket. I agree that tax increase maybe one solution for RT but don't believe that is part of the deal making that is current on the table sir.
and bbbmmeer insurance co's will always get around preexisting conditions as not even a fine will stop that. there are loopholes in this 2,200 page bill bbbmmeer also i do not wish to deny 50 million out of health care i want health care for all, but i would like to start over as this 2,200 page bill will bankrupt this country for real.
now maybe i have this all wrong and maybe that there are hundreds of thousands of rich that can afford a new arena and the one we have is too small and they will always be able to afford to go to a game or event in that case i withdraw my contention we don't need a new arena, but if it is too small and there are those that do have the dough to go then add on to the one we already have in natomas.

Seems obama healtcare is going to be shoved down our throat in the next few days and so it goes with not the will of the people in sacramento regarding this arena, I haven't seen this planned new arena on any special voting paper for the public to vote on this. That's the thing to do when guys like OPEC is stealing our hopes and dreams of a prosperous tommorrow and locally RT is looking at such great financial deficits that they are considering shutting down the bus and light rail on weekends and evenings, over 13% out of work and this kind of mad thinking is taking place. Build a new arena. Disgusting.

Send an email or call your councilman link below . cut and paste into your browser the link below. let your councilman know that if they vote for a new arena they will no longer get your vote when they come up again for re-election. but how do you do that when the wages in these countries are 6 cents an hour. our concentration needs to be on handling this issue first i believe. I for one do not know how it can be done. Anyone out there have any bright ideas?

Awesome game. great writing Rob. From this fans perspective which hasn't been much talked about is the shooting, the made hoops. So So many missed attempts we could have run over the Lakers. And smoother play patterns and more of them, but the guys really need to stay after school and do nothing but shoot hoops, hoops and more hoops until they dream of shooting hoops in their sleep and then there will be no stopping us and next year we will have a world title and a cool parade downtown and midtown. I am glad Paul is playing everyone all the time so he can see the real picture of all his guys under pressure he is building on a future world champion team. We are so lucky to have such YOUNG great players and a world class coach. It's so exciting watching as a new fan. I did play the game when i was young and loved it. it takes extra effort to be better than the best. more baskets, more harmony on the play patterns and were off to real stardom.

specifically ?
I do not have the specifics. I do know that among our economic problems lie in outsourcing American business to foreign entities and as such loss of jobs. This is being done daily. A start would be to take the money and survey those businesses on the why they left or downsized and form a coalition to fix the problem to get them back.

You mis-duplicated me on the job part i wasnt talking about the jobs that this action would have on our need for jobs. i was talking about forget the 60 million and use that to bring business i.e. jobs back that we have out sourced to other countries. Thank you for you input. I feel more educated now. It sounds like a good thing.

60 million for track relocation? I believe the city just upgraded the Sacramento Valley Station even with a lite rail spur. It looks wonderful.
Suzanne can you tell me who i can contact to get some information on this project? Why we need 60 million more for this station? Sounds more like a terribly costly unneeded appropriation
when all of our resources should be going to getting businesses that make things for others around the world as china and India, Mexico and other countries do for us. Those companies use to be here and we use to have an economy that was flourishing and prospering. Lets bring the business back to America which creates the jobs that then our citizens have money to spend on things like more 60 million dollar choo choo's? And why is it that Union Pacific isn't footing this bill?
I contacted Union Pacific in Chicago a few years back on when they were going to put a coat of paint on the I street bridge and was rebuffed as something that was not a priority that the bridge was structural sound and that was that. We share that bridge with the California Dept of Transportation, but got nowhere there as well. They passed the buck for me to talk to Union Pacific.

I believe that if one is truly doing what one is doing in life which carries a great passion that the wins from doing that are reflective in better mental and physical health.
I could be wrong here, but I have been in retail business for more than 30 years in the commercial tire industry and have had contracts with city's and municipalities for years. Accountancy i do not believe is the savings. it is in oranges for oranges price wise for parts. I find it difficult to believe that part for part that Napa is 39% higher than local vendors unless of course the good ole boy (under the table payoff in the way of garage door openers, trips to bermuda, etc) take place that awards the bid to someone else that has a higher price. It disgusts me to have manufacturers or mega distributiing companies being even allowed to bid, but it does happen. Local vendors are the backbone of america and if the city goes this way with Napa they can just be adding to more closed local business that keeps our community alive otherwise it's just another wal-mart take over and small mom and pop are out and and is the main reason our country is in the difficult situation it is because no more mom and pop retail just mega stores i.e home depot, walmart, etc

That we must conserve, cut back usage and the farms need to ration water our city officials give a permit to one of the worlds largest water bottling companies as if was nothing more than a street vendor and to move in and start taking our water that is in limited supply and put into environmentally unfriendly bottles and our fair city fathers selling our water for chump change so Nestles can make a 10,000 percent profit is totally unacceptable by this midtown resident. Very interesting how that works out.

I find also it works out best so a problem does not hang up forever in time is by communiting it out. communication and more communication is the great solvent. confront and handle and all will resolve. This plan from my viewpoint will really bring downtown Sacrament a place for visitors to come from everywhere for a fun time especially at night.
Now William start the ball rolling. Let me know if i can help. I have no money but do have old age.

Having vehicular traffic is key to retail business as it gives those businesses exposure to them. open up for bike traffic as well. trolley's great idea and no need to re-route lite rail. just a scheduling logistic, but trolly's would be big bucks. I think having low income housing with retail stores on bottom floors, street vendors would work quite well. And we have lots of land around sacramento to bring manufacturing and other business back from out sourced asia, india and wherever. Jobs are the key to all this. If we are working we will spend money and folks from every area of our city will come and spend money in midtown and downtown and things will work themselves out. I am certainly not a rocket scientist, but feel it doesnt take one to figure the way back from our economic woes in this country is to bring jobs back so we have the bucks to spend in midtown and downtown and we can once again all be flourishing and prospering.

To this midtown senior second Sat has taken on the color of Madi Gras. I lived in the Quarter in New Orleans. Second Saturday great fun, but anywhere you have "spirits" being sold you are going to have those few that drink just one to many mint julips and the "Cookie Monster" comes out in them and then the fun stops. Great business for local bars and restaurants in Midtown and the art galleries probably get more people viewing the art on one given second Saturday than all year long. So overall i think its a great thing for local business and the kid in all of us that just want to go out and play or be part of the playground atmosphere. There will always be some downside, but overall i think its a great thing for Midtown. Maybe Midtown business don't know they should do their part to clean up after second Sat.Maybe they have thought the city does that, wishful thinking. So MBA if youre listenting how about a flyer for local business that explains whats happening and solicit the businesses support to clean up after the gobs of money they made the night before. Of course that is probably only true for the bars and eateries, but is still retail exposure and that is a good thing for all business in Midtown.
