<content type="text">I asked airport spokeswoman Gina Swankie during the initial interview whether airport officials expected to add airlines with the new configuration. I also posed the question above about domestic carriers such as Virgin America to airport PR staff.

"The (Sacramento County) Airport System regularly meets with existing and potential carriers to establish new routes, but will only confirm
additions as start dates are announced," Swankie said.</content>

    <content type="text">Good question.

Southwest will be moving to Central Terminal B. Other airlines will switch places, with some of the airlines moving from Terminal A to Central Terminal B, and some airlines currently in the existing Terminal B moving to Terminal A.

The goal is to move them all at once, according to an airport spokeswoman.</content>

The arena is being designed to be built adjacent to the future regional transit center, all on city land in the railyards downtown. Seems reasonable there'd be open space between the two or next to them.</content>

The press release lists 70 coalition members, not 60 as Mayor Kevin Johnson announced two weeks ago.

The coalition includes some people who represent Natomas in their official capacities, such as City Councilwoman Angelique Ashby and state Assemblyman Richard Pan.

<content type="text">Perhaps the plans in the EIR are outdated:

"Discussion

The proposed project begins at 16th Street on the west end and ends at 18th Street on the east.
It is located within the boundaries of the City of Sacramento General Plan, the R Street Corridor
and the Central City Community Plan

Existing land uses immediately adjacent to the proposed R Street Market Plaza project consist
mainly of vacant buildings that are planned for redevelopment. A mixed use complex with
Safeway Market, restaurants, commercial shops and loft apartments is located at the east end
of the proposed project at the intersection of R and 18th streets. There is a vacant lot located
on the north side of R Street between 16th and 17th streets that is planned to be developed into
parking garage."</content>

"Tom and Toby’s Automotive Clinic/Repairing, 1720 17th Street

This facility is out of business and the site is now a vacant lot between 16th and 17th Streets.
The site was identified on Sanborn Maps from 1964 to 1970 as an Automobile Repair. Sanborn
Maps were not available after 1970. The building can be seen in aerial photographs from 1952
through 1981. In the 1993 aerial photograph the entire site has been cleared (Blackburn
Consulting 2009).

A-1 Plating Company, 1721 16th Street

This facility is out of business and the site is now a vacant lot between 16th and 17th Streets.
The site was identified on Sanborn Maps from 1957 to 1970 as a Plating Shop and Automobile
Repair. Sanborn Maps were not available after 1970. The building can be seen in aerial
photographs from 1952 through 1981. In the 1993 aerial photograph the entire site has been
cleared.

Plating shops are a concern for surface soil contamination. Historically, plating operations were
prone to site contamination due to the movement of parts through the plating process in an
unenclosed system. Old shops often had trenches into which wastewater and waste solutions
were deposited. Potential contaminants include cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, nickel, zinc
and cyanide (Blackburn Consulting 2009). "

This story is an advance on two upcoming workshops. The workshop organizers, hosts and panel experts probably do know a lot more about what is going on in Sacramento nightclubs and will most likely discuss that at the workshops.</content>

Tyler said she was told the monthly total would increase by 5 to 10 percent in February. She hasn't been able to afford maintenance for the other two bathrooms, she said.</content>

<content type="text">Thanks to everybody for adding valuable perspectives to the conversation.

We followed up with Ed Cox, who says Sac racks are meant to provide short-term visitor parking outside shops, restaurants, offices and other businesses.

Business owners with Sac racks already installed can follow up with the city to discuss how much use the racks are getting. The city can always install a second, which would double bike parking spaces to four total.

"If it's perpetually filled up, we will address it," Cox said. "In a situation where we have high use, we'll put in a different design."</content>

While it is true that councilmembers can decide which projects get CDBG funds, city code requires that the council approve any expenditure of $100,000 or more, according to the city's transportation department. The city manager may approve expenditures of $99,999 or less.

The council also must vote to set up a Capital Improvement Project such as this.</content>

<content type="text">Downtown Works presented an executive summary of the draft report Wednesday. The report will be made available to the DSP in December and is scheduled to be voted on by the DSP board at its next board meeting at 8 a.m. Dec. 16 at the Citizen Hotel. The public is welcome at DSP board meetings.

DSP is now working on its list of recommendations, which will be proposed to the board at the same time. DSP officials said they will seek consensus on the report and the organization's priorities, then get into the process of implementing the plan.

Half of the 103 retail spaces don't meet the bare minimum standards expected by quality retailers as defined by the consultants. While only 12 percent are considered currently desirable enough to keep, another 38 percent would need varying amounts of help to be considered desirable for the vision presented by Downtown Works, said consultant Midge McCauley.

The area includes 700 single-residency occupancy units and 220 market-rate housing units.</content>

<content type="text">The story doesn’t dispute the county health inspector’s finding, which was the reason for the closure.

Dozens of restaurants are closed down temporarily for failing to pass health inspections in Sacramento County each year. The story here is Daniel Pont and the devotion of his customers. There’d be no story otherwise.

There’s more to a restaurant inspection and people’s reaction to this one than the inspector’s findings. The restaurant owner’s reaction to the inspection is relevant to the story, and the county’s response to his concerns were included.</content>

<content type="text">Thanks for the very interesting information about historical railroad track configurations and use, William. Your comments as one of the historians with the California Office of Historic Preservation often add valuable perspective to our site.

A "correction" is not warranted in this story. If you read the sentence closely, you'll see that it addresses the station's current track setup, not how the tracks were used in the past.

While the tracks may have been laid down in 1924, the story reports that the station itself dates to 1925, a date that is contained in the environmental assessment. This was reconfirmed today by your boss Stephen Mikesell, who adds that it's not unusual for a railroad station to be built after the tracks.

You commented that "the 'third phase' improvement will have to integrate the historic depot as a portion of the new depot" because "transportation funding is being used to pay for its restoration and improvement."

Phase 1, track realignment, has gotten transportation funding. Phase 2 will primarily involve work to make the existing depot more efficient and workable for the multiple forms of transportation people can access there, as well as minimal safety and cleanup work on the building. That phase will not involve renovation of the historic station.

The third phase is the one that could include a renovation. While there is an intention to connect the historic depot to the future terminal in some way, that has not been settled, Mikesell reconfirmed today.</content>
