I received a ticket last Monday in Old Sac and the photos the officer posted were such poor quality that it was impossible to tell if my meter really had expired. This added to my frustration because the ticket was time stamped within minutes of the amount of time I paid for. Sure, I could have disputed it but the last time I disputed another highly questionable ticket (related to distance parked from a fire hydrant) the " dispute attorney" did not write down my statement correctly and therefore proved a complete waste of time. This just reinforces my choice to spend as little time as possible in downtown.

KJ is a year too late, at the very minimum. It is pathetic that it took the Kings leaving town before a push by the city like this. Everything that KJ has said since news of the Kings moving came out has had an anti-Maloof feel. Another NBA team will not move here in any of our lifetimes so save some cash and build a smaller venue like Stockton's Arena. No need for a place with 17,000+ seats for at least 30 years.

Personally, I'll be crushed when they leave. It hasn't really sunk in yet that Sacramento will be without the Kings soon. My mom took me, my brother, and my sister to meet Vinny Del Negro and the late Wayman Tisdale back in 87 or 88 when they each made an appearance at car dealerships in the Arden area. I also remember the day Ricky Berry committed suicide. Walking through Sunrise Mall, I saw the breaking news on tv while we passed by Radio Shack. Both good and bad, I have many memories about the Kings.
I didn't go to my first game until the early 90's and I think it was a Warriors game. My next game was in 95 when the Suns were in town and me and two friends had to get single seats as that is all that was left. Earlier that day I got Charles Barkley's autograph while he was at the old America Live sports bar watching golf. We had to go there to check in there for the Hoop It Up basketball tournament that was happening that weekend in Land Park.
I also remember earlier this decade when a friend was buying the group tickets and after the game we'd wait for traffic to clear out and listen to the postgame show which was done at Arco in the 4th floor lounge. Jim Kozimor was still working for KHTK and everyone just wanted to talk about the Kings and how special that team was. Although they did not win the title in 2002 they sure brought out the best in everyone in this city. It's funny how things change though. It seems one out every five people don't care if the team leaves.

I don't know where to start so I'll just say this: if the Kings leave they will take top entertainment with them. The arena will have little life left. It will rot and at some point soon need to be demolished. When that is gone where will entertainment such as Lady Gaga, Usher, Eric Clapton, Disney on Ice and Sac State graduations, high school playoff games, etc, be held? The musical acts will bypass Sacramento for Oakland or San Francisco. Fine. If you are a fan of a big time musician you'll drive two hours to see the show. What does this mean for Sacramento? No dining out before or after the show at local establishments. Fans who would travel from outlying areas to see the show and stay in hotels near Natomas won't come here. It'll be a small loss but it's not an economy-killer. Sac State will probaly bring graduations to the Memorial or back to campus. High school playoff basketball will probably be moved back to the little gym on campus. But I agree with you. The sun will still rise. The commute will be just as long. The city will still operate as usual, minus the activity in one part of Natomas.
City leaders have tried for a new arena for years but it is the age-old question: who wants to pay for it? The small-minded people of Sacramento don't want to chip in to a small tax increase to support a building they, their family, or their friends will at some point visit for a reason other than a basketball game.
It's not all about basketball. The Kings play 41 regular-season home games per year. That leaves 324 other nights per year that the building will be used.
In other cities where a new sports and entertainment complex was recently built, the surrounding area was completely revitalized. Ever been to a Giants baseball game? The first year that park was built the surrounding areas were parking lots. Now? It's surrounded by high-rise living, restaurants, bars, shopping, and prime office space. Ever been to Denver near Coors Field? The area where the park is located was a dump before the field was built. Now it is a revitalized part of town where people go to eat, drink, shop, spend time, etc, whether there is baseball or not. San Diego? Same thing.
Sacramento is too narrow-minded, short-sided, and small-town thinking to deserve a pro sports franchise if it has been this impossible to get a building built. This city is missing out on so much and I can't wait until the day I can leave too.

I can't blame you for being angry at the Maloofs for the naming rights decision but at the end of the day it is all about the Benjamins. In this economy combined with the speculation that they could very well pull up and move in a couple years I applaud the Maloofs for being able to find a company, no matter what they sell whether it's bracelets or boxes of poo, to be willing to send them a check every month in exchange for putting said company's name on the building. It's purely a business decision and at the end of the day the Maloofs are the winners because they are getting paid.
The new name of the arena is nothing to be ashamed of. Instead, if and when the Kings move, this will be much more embarrassing to me as a Sacramento resident. We will be known as a pathetic small minded city who could not get an arena built in order to hold onto an NBA basketball team. What's more embarrassing than being a city that loses a professional sports team? The reasons I don't consider Seattle a pathetic city after losing the Sonics is because they still have an NFL and an MLB team, both with new facilities, as well other attractions and features that make it a world class city.
Just my opinion, but if the Kings do in fact leave it will be a major blow to this region and Sacramento will be nothing more than a bathroom break between Tahoe/Reno and San Francisco.
In regards to the Pavillion title, there are three other somewhat well known venues called Pavillions: HP Pavillion in San Jose where the Sharks play, Hyundai Pavillion down in Orange County which is a concert venue, and Pauley Pavillion on the UCLA campus where the Bruins play basketball.

I thought that if an NBA team moved to Vegas that all the casinos would then have to take betting on NBA games off the table. Maybe I misunderstood that as only pertaining to the Palms if the Kings did make a move there. I feel that a move to Vegas would not work for any pro sports team let alone the Kings or an NBA franchise. The All Star Game was held there a few years ago and it was mostly a PR disaster from what I remember hearing and reading. Crime was a big issue but maybe it was isolated because of the magnitude of the event and the large amounts of fans that came to town because of the game.

Just another sign that Downtown Plaza is dead and gone. What a waste of potential. I've been to a handful of other cities where the mall is a major part of their downtown. K Street has been prime potential and yet it is still rotting. The Plaza is a dump now. The Kings will be the next piece of Sacramento to go away too, with yet another losing year, way too many empty seats, and the prolonging arena issue. Somehow this city continues to suprise and disappointment me.

I wasn't exactly ROTFLMAO at Mandel's show. He had some funny stuff but let's just say I would not have paid extra to see this. Of course jokes about your butt and balls will make most guys 15 again but overall he was not what I was expecting. Most of the people sitting with us in the back left the show about halfway through, some were actually offended too. Showing a video clip as your closer was weak and it was not even funny! Sorry, Howie: No Deal. You're better on AGT and Deal or No Deal if it's still on TV.

Agreed, FrankC. Sacramento is far far away from becoming a World Class City. I also agree that the city had to sign this deal in order to get some revenue. Anything will help at this point since the economy is nowhere near turning around. At least the current freeway signs are not displaying ads. That had been talked about recently as a way to generate some cash for our wrecked state.

It's nice to see people care about what's going on in the city but at the same time this is the kind of thing that gives Sacramento its cow town reputation. They are building a damn Target store. So what if they found loopholes to avoid paying permit fees and such? It's a smart business move to save money in a crappy economy. Is the Target store going to look worse than the boarded-up and vacant old Golden 1 building? Probably not. Is it going to be a busy store and full of shoppers everyday? Yes it will. The Sac State students alone who live in the area will benefit with this store right there because as of now there is nothing that compares to a Target in the immediate area, not to mention all the other residents who will shop this store. The city of Sacramento loses out on some building fees. So what. The city has bigger issues than a new Target store.

For those who don't speak legal-ese you cannot tint your front windows. I know some people who have tinted a shade or two but if you go "blacked out" you risk being cited and in some cases the officer will make you peel the tint off right there on the spot. It happened to my brother-in-law and I've herad others say it's happened to them. It is correct that officers have higher priorities than stopping people for illegal tint but imagine you have tinted front windows and a cop on a slow day sees you. You'll get popped.

You guys watch, this group of Kings is gonna bring the purple and black attack! After last season there was nowhere to go but up and I think they've got a real nice core of young guys who are going to build on. Give it a couple years and the Kings will be better than that other team in CA that wears purple!
