The Mayor said “Nothing is more important to me than educating our children,” and yet, after over 3 years in office, he is still hoping to learn what changes the community wants and trying to find a way to get better teachers and make school relevant to students. For someone who considers himself an educator that's pretty lame.
Wouldn't much of the increased tax revenue from a new arena be offset by decreased revenue from the area around the old arena?
Nothing's free Rhys. Get over it. Sounds to me like they're cutting government waste. You don't like that?
Seems fair enough to me too Davi. Gather up your friends and go down to the next council meeting and let them know what you want and need. This is what Democracy looks like my friend.
So in order to get their name on a sign Le Rivage Hotel just had to pay for the sign? That's it?
I rarely wear shoes myself in the summer. If you just go barefoot for a few weeks you realize that you really don't need them at all.
I think the map is pretty good. Good job Melissa and Sac Press on this story. Sac Press is THE go to place for local politics.
With the water as high as it is now into the trees and bushes swimmers need to be aware that, while it might be tempting to grab onto tree branches to get out of the water, it's better to find a clear beach area if possible to avoid entanglement.
I loved the Boy Scouts as a kid and as an adult. Years ago when my oldest son was in the Scouts the Supreme Court handed down a ruling saying that the BSA could discriminate against atheist kids. I quit my post as assistant scout master and was told that this ruling didn't apply to adult leaders. Troop 13 in Sacramento, which served poor urban boys, folded shortly afterward because of no parental participation. What about my kids? I was told that they should just lie if they are atheists. (I don't know. It's up to them and they're just kids right now like all boy scouts anyway) A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. This is the Scout Law and I live by it. When I'm living outside and look at the stars I am more reverent than the Pope. It's just a shame that the Scout Laws didn't include Honest.
Capitol mall looks fine to me. The reason that it's not a well used space is that there's almost no retail, restaurants or housing there. It's just banks and offices and that doesn't attract "family events".
I went by there on my lunch break from the convention. The lines were too long so I ate at the spin bar which was also mobbed with the overflow. Next year I would suggest a bigger park and more trucks. Mobile food is not a crime.
Another question for Officer Michelle. If your guests have had too much to drink and are loud, and the cops come, and the cops say everybody has to go home, do we still not let our guests leave?
Didn't they just give all the City's managers a big raise? Maybe we should start there.
Bum containment zone? Razor wire? Really? Are you really that afraid of the poor? They're not lepers you know. You can actually talk to them, touch them, and help them and not become one of them although, in your case, it might do you some good to walk a mile in their shoes.
It's interesting that they've offered priority to the more than 60 safe ground campers for these 32 beds. The safe ground campers are harder to vilify. They don't allow any drinking or drugs in their camps and they keep their camps clean. POVERTY IS NOT A CRIME.
"i don't have kids, but yet will i pay extra for a soda for someone else's kids to possibly not be fat? i am not sure that is fair." Rich, every time a child without insurance is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes we all pay extra for it. It looks like Mr McCarty is still working on the details here so if you have any suggestions that may improve this bill I'm sure he would appreciate the input.
This is true Patrick. I guess that, at first, we would have to use 19th st but I don't like the idea of going the wrong way on a one way street. Maybe we could use the railroad right of way. For $390,000 I would have actually walked the route and spotted this issue but the issue would remain. Wouldn't be opposed to a grade crossing if we could figure out the whole wire thing.
One man's art, when painted on another man's wall, becomes the other man's art to do with as he pleases. Of course now it's just a blank wall that's just begging for a big XIV to be painted on it.
Where did KJ get the idea that it's the School District's job to send information to families about non-district schools? It is listed on the SCUSD web site under the charter schools tab. St. Hope public schools needs to do their own promotion.

When you think about it that way it kinda makes the 1% even worse don't you think?
