I am a licensed foster home and have adopted a child already. I have been with a foster care agency but they say it is hard to place kids because they want to keep them in their county of origin. I know there are a lot of homes like mine but if we are out of your county then we don't get the placements.

Hi Michelle, actually that's not true. President Obama supported National Adoption Month and National Adoption Day by issuing a Presidential Proclamation in 2009 (just as President Bush had for 8 years). In addition, President Obama's Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, hosted an event on National Adoption Day at the HHS building in Washington, D.C. to honor and celebrate all the parents adopting children from foster care on National Adoption Day and throughout the year, and included on the stage with her one of the families that had adopted on National Adoption Day at the D.C. Superior Court. You can see the Presidential Proclamation, and media coverage of the HHS event, on our National Adoption Day webste www.nationaladoptionday.org. Adoption of the hundreds of thousands of waiting children in this country is a non-partisan cause that is supported by everyone across the political spectrum in this country. Also, I don't know where you get your information, but Planned Parenthood is not a funder of National Adoption Day.

Where's President Obama regarding National Adoption Day? (and this month?) So far unlike President Bush, Obama hasn't offered any proclaimation or greeted and honored adoptive parents and adoptees at any of the events. Could this be because one of his biggest funders is Planned Parenthood, which profits from abortions it performs rather than adoption? I can imagine for those whom went to Washington D.C being left with only Secretary Sebelius to carry out the honors wasn't the same as having the presence of the U.S president.
The media should also take interest in dispel common lies about adoption fabricated by the "pro-choice" movement as "prospective parents wouldn't be interested in adopting outside their race/ethnicity" or "handicapped children" when in fact potential adopters get on waiting lists (even waiting for years) to get such children.

Agreed. The current foster care government program is broken, and the public has, in general, a complete misunderstanding of the who, what, where, how, and why's of the problem.

For over 25 years, Sierra Adoption Services has transformed the lives of children in foster care by building and nurturing permanent families. On July 1, Sierra Adoption Services becomes Sierra Forever Families. This change better represents our services and will enable us to expand our services to children first entering the foster care system.
