Generally, City employees have the day off. I imagine State workers do as well...other than that, we're not sure, but know that some people either have the day off or take it off. Since we don't generally feature Monday events in our Top 10 event listings since they are sent out on Mondays, we saw an opportunity to share these events with everyone.

Congrats on the new position Elizabeth. We all look forward to seeing the MBA thrive under your leadership. I'm especially excited to hear that you are looking to "create stronger relationships with our counterparts in neighboring districts" and think that "As adjacent neighbors, we’re better-served if we’re working together and in close communication." Work together not against each other! Hopefully your new leadership will offer a fresh perspective and allow this to happen.

I think it's great that people are expressing their concerns regarding these sorts of events. Although it seems unfortunate that the organizers of this Midfest are having a hard time getting support from the surrounding neighborhood, it is ultimately a good thing that the residents concerns are being heard. Thank you to Sacramento Press for yet another outlet to hear from the people of the city.

In agreement with Zen, any event that is being held within a residential neighborhood should have to comply with "good neighbor" policies (i.e. monitor sound levels, parking arrangements, trash-pickup, and behavior monitoring). Everyone has been commenting about the Bloc Party on Cinco de Mayo- I myself was appalled to ride my bike by Zocalo on May 6th to find that there was still trash and street closure remnants lingering well into the afternoon.

I would love for Sacramento to have more outdoor events and street festivals. However, the organizers need to held accountable for the cleanup and responsible management of the event. Simply offering the residents a hotel room is not a responsible way to handle situations such as these- like William said, who wants to leave their home succeptible to unruly patrons from unorganized and poorly managed events?

To their defense, it sounds like MidFest organizers are trying to be mindful of the nearby residents with earlier end times and resident notifications. If they weren't before, than they sure are going to need to ramp up their plan! Otherwise, it's going to just get harder for the next one...

Thank you for your comments John. You are right! I should've named the bands plaing at CIP this week- in addition to Sol Peligro, Retrograde Revolution & La Noche Oskura will be there. I noticed that you were mentioning some events that will be coming up in future weeks. For the purpose of this article that I write every week, I focus on the events for that specific week. There are so many awesome things going on, it's virtually impossible to list them all even for a single week. I do note that there are many more events going on and can be found on my website as well. And just to clarify, the Unity & Diversity Festival is not free. You may want to check their website.

I appreciate that you want to plug your website too. There are many great websites that feature Sacramento events, yours being one of them. Really what this is all about is making sure we do what we can to get the word out about these events so that people come out. This way the talented & creative minds participating & putting the events together can sustain themselves and continue to support the entertainment seeking folks out there. Collectively, I hope that we can get the word out. Thanks again.
