Allow me to echo the sentiment already expressed in here that this is a very plain and obvious grab at political points by the mayor and council members. They are simply taking advantage of a situation that they feel will improve their standing with the growing number of Latino voters.
The fact remains that the City Council and the Mayor need to focus on issues that actually affect Sacramento and it's residents. It's not like there is a shortage of them. By boycotting Arizona, they claim to take the moral high ground and stand up for civil rights, but how does this improve the quality of life for Sacramento residents?
Simply put: It doesn't. They are merely attempting to distract voters from noticing their complete incompetence when it's come to improving our city. It seems that they'd rather stand on a soapbox and rally against the actions of another state, rather than deal with the issues in their own back yard.
And yes, I understand that their actions probably came at the call of their constituents. But they need not give in to the whims and cries of a mob every time it gets rustled. They need to focus on the actual responsibilities of their job description.
