Well, I am the host. Will do my best to make it a fitting and proper tribute to our state, and our nation for that matter, maritime industry and especially the USA's seafarers who are indispensible for moving cargo afloat throughout the nation. We are talking prosperity here as well as in time of conflict national defense. All welcome. Afterwards mix it up with American Merchant Marine Veterans who suffered great losses on cargo and tanker ships across the Atlantic and Pacific. For something unique in Sacramento this is it. Hope to see you and the family.
March 6th and 7th was the 86th Camellia Weekend in Sacramento - the Camellia City. This celebration endures even as many flower shows and garden clubs have withered. Sacramento's annual camellia show now ranks as one of the oldest and largest continuously held shows in the state devoted to a single flower. Today, May 7, I received my ribbons for the blooms I entered in the completion. In a nutshell, for this armature grower, it was my best year yet for ribbons. Two gold "Head Table" ribbons. This a a first place "plus" designation. The blooms that receive this designation are considered for trophies. Two blue ribbons for first place. Two red ribbons for two second place awards. One white ribbon for a third place award. I encourage you to participate in 2011 the first weekend in March. The venue is the Memorial Auditorium, Sacramento, http://www.sacramentoconventioncenter.com/venues/memorialAuditorium.
I was there. Didn't know what to expect and ended up being pleasantly surprised. Enjoyed meeting members of the SacramentoPress.com staff and other invitees. The presentation was interesting, quite personal. Mrs. Corn chatted about herself then proceeded to dissect the onion. Then we observing it all were asked to write about slicing and dicing the onion. Equally interesting were the perspectives of each of us. Quite descriptive, some almost eloquent. We enjoyed sodas and delicious thin-crust pizza from Hot Italian and went home afterwards with a SacramentoPress.com reporter's notepad and ball point pen. Anticipate first-time future articles from some of us. Phelps Hobart
Conversation about: Council candidate David Turturici: 'No to arena, yes to public safety'
There is no way that Sacramento's carbon footprint will be reduced if the arena is built. Even if everyone walked to events there, the concentration of carbon dioxide and other emissions would be concentrated. I wonder how much of the estimated $398 million is devoted to buying carbon credits to ofset the pollution that is going to be associated with this project if built. Then there is the economic drain associated with events at such a facility as out of town entertainers and sports teams extract $$$ from Sacramento. Money in Sacramento should circulate in Sacramento!
