Hey Jim, Looks like you are running out of inane excuses for your fallen idol! As a perryloon, you are one of the weakest I have encountered in defending him...LOL!!! Anyhow, using your twisted logic about imitating...then Perry himself is an imitator since he admitted in his interviews that he was influenced heavily by Sam Cooke's singing style! It is not as if Perry invented falsetto singing, I personally believe that Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees as well as Rod Stewart sound much better singing falsetto than Perry does! So NO, Perry is NOT an original with his vocal style, NOR is he the original singer of Journey ( which according to your insane logic, also qualifies your ex-JRNY singer Steve Perry as a TRIBUTE singer to Journey)...tsk, tsk, tsk...LOL!!!! PS Do you even know what the meaning of a tribute band is? Reading your illogical posts and unsubstantiated statements about Journey, I bet NOT..LOL! Anyhow, to enlighten your sparse knowledge about music, a tribute band is a band that exclusively sings songs composed or written solely by ANOTHER Band--a concrete example of a tribute Journey Band is Frontiers...and yes the tickets are a lot less priced than watching Journey itself (since Journey consisting of Neal Schon, Ross Valory and Jon Cain) are the original composers/writers/performers of their very OWN songs! BTW, I am neither a Philippino nor in any way, shape or form do I get any money from my favorite Band... but unlike you I AM a true Journey Band fan and not a desperate and irrational perryloon...LOL!
Jim, Sorry to highlight your lack of knowledge about Journey--but in truth, Journey never had any respect from music critics purely because of Perry's effeminate/falsetto vocals--described as a "baby seal crying for help" or in England, Perry's girlish/feminine voice was described as a 'duck'! That is the reason why Perry never ever read any of his concert reviews and why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well as Rolling Stone perennially snubs Journey in the 80s. Now as far as popularity among the so-called masses, well, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Jonas Brothers are all selling multi-platinum albums, yet this fact alone does not make their singing voices truly remarkable or even exceptional--same with Perry's girlish/ pop voice! In fact, Perry tried to do a concert singing Journey songs without the other Band-members...and what did it get him to? Absolutely nowhere--he even had to cancel the rest of his tour! Pathetically, the only identity he has to the world is that if he is referred to as Journey's ex-lead singer,...but if you only mention his name...you will get a blank stare from almost everyone! Now talking about complaints from European fans last year...do you have a website link, so I can read it for myself---otherwise your statements are just malicious lies and pure deception...as a matter of fact, Journey is scheduled to go back to these-so-called European places they toured last year with Arnel Pineda, because of the immense requests among the concert-goers from last year--you can go to Journey's official website to see their scheduled European concert tours for 2009! Now, only a person who lives in the mountains without any Internet or a TV set would be ignorant about Arnel Pineda's joining Journey as their official lead singer last year, since it is all over youtube, the Internet, CNN, New York Times, GQ, Ellen Degeneres, etc....so your statement about misleading advertisement sounds extremely shallow! PS As the saying goes, singers come and go, but the MUSIC itself...in this case Journey's timeless music never fades!!! Much like the James Bond character played by the Scottish actor Sean Connery, the English actor Roger Moore, Irish actor Pierce Brosnan and now the first blond Bond actor Daniel Craig...one character, different actors...ALL extremely SUCCESSFUL!
To Anonymous who replied to Amy: You are either tooo old, a perryloon, or tooo ignorant to even know that Perry the portuguese gayish voice is himself NOT an original Band member of JRNY---sooo based on your idiotic and absurd logic--Journey under Perry is also tribute band (although pop/gayish rather than ROCK). Robert Fleischman is Journey's original singer and NOT your Perry! JRNY is now a global and multi-generational ROCK-hard Band...truly an outstanding feat! This latest chapter of the Band played in over 700,000 fans all over the world last year and has a platinum Revelation Album, and late this year will be featured in a documentary to be shown in different prestigious film festivals...the eternal ROCK Band is having a major blast!!!
Conversation about: The "Journey" was on at Raley Field
Don, I am not downplaying Perry's contribution to Journey...the "seal crying for help as well as the reference to a duck " are not my words BUT the music critics and concert reviewers! Yes, it is my opinion that his voice sounded like a girl/female wailing...and as for falsetto, Perry himself admitted to singing falsetto to reach high notes--which Pineda never ever uses (that explains why Pineda's voice sounds very manly, rockish and powerful in his vocal interpretation of Journey's classic songs). Now as for sold records...well it took Journey lots of years to sell the number of records that they purportedly sold...so give more time with Pineda and see what legacy he will leave for Journey! Lest anyone forget, the upsurge of their record sales in the 80s came when Jonathan Cain started to write songs for Journey--Open Arms, Faithfully, Don't Stop Believin, etc., are written by him with some help from Schon and Perry! Again, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West sell more records than even Journey...but it does NOT prove that they have exceptional vocal talents, it just shows/reveals the current or prevailing musical taste of the so-called masses who buy those records at any given time (same situation can be said of the Perry-fronted Journey in the 80s, where falsetto singing is at its most popular led by the Bee Gees and Rod Stewart). Now as for writing credits for Pineda, Schon wrote on his blog at Journey's official website that Pineda will start writing songs with Schon and Cain for their mostly ROCK songs in their forthcoming 2009 album. Regarding international popularity...Journey under Perry never toured Europe, but now with their highly successful concert tours last year, (and yes European concert-goers DID know Pineda is the lead singer of Journey last year) and their repeat performances this year, ensures that Journey will be extremely popular in that continent. As far as Asia is concerned, Perry only toured Japan, but under Pineda, Journey held concerts in China, Philippines and Japan...all very successful! Not to mention that Journey was invited for the very first time to perform at SuperBowl, and that they have a film documentary that will be shown in prestigious film festivals this year! Music critics and concert reviewers all sing praises to Pineda's vocal talent in the Revelation CD, as well as his performances in concerts that they even titled their concert reviews as Perry who??? Journey Revelation Tour is in the TOP 20 of the HIGHEST Grossing Tours of 2008--earned more than 45 million dollars. All in all an extremely impressive and phenomenal start for Journey with Pineda as the lead singer. Here's the stats for Revelation CD sales in Europe: go to this link at Blabbermouth, and YES they are in the Top 100 charts in several European countries last year. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/BlabberMouth.Net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=99264 Regarding Augeri and Soto...they are not the topic or issue at hand but the gross exaggeration of Perry's contribution to the band...my posts are trying to disprove the highly illogical/entirely false premise that Perry is Journey, I am contesting that Perry is NOT and never will be Journey alone...but that Journey is a synergy of talented individuals creating beautiful, inspiring and uplifting MUSIC, and the MUSIC never fades.
