Lol this picture made me laugh.... A bunch of middle class white kids looking to pad their college resume's. This is not the face of youth in Sacramento. Oh and Sacramento already has a Boys & Girls Club which the taxpayers kicked in for. No City I have ever seen has opened a successful youth center. Leave it the the experts, the Boys & Girls Clubs do a great job already, and they have been successful at working with youth for over a hundred years.

Hey All Just Wanted To Let Everyone Know the VOX Cafe has moved from 19TH + X To
600 4th St in West Sacramento.
On the scenic corner of 4th and F St in *West* Sacramento (NOT 4th and F in downtown Sacramento).
Right over the Sacramento river, just a hop and a skip away from downtown and Old Sacramento.
One way of getting there is to take the I Street Bridge over the river, make the first left after the bridge (3rd Street), go down a few blocks to F St, make a right, go one more block and you are there!
If you are coming from Tower bridge, make a right onto 3rd and a left onto F St.
It’s the big gray building at the corner.
Parking is in the back. Look for the Vox Signs

Hope to See You All Out!

Also, how would the superintendents feel and respond if it was their child's school on the chopping block. Are any of them facing the same issue? Why are the children and neighborhoods the first to suffer? They have the smallest say yet are affected the most.

The problem the district is facing is a steep decrease in students and revenues. Over the past decade, Sac City district has lost about 10,000 students and had to make $90 million in cuts. Their ratio of students to schools is dropping, and one possible solution is to close some facilities. This would allow some schools to consolidate, and make the remaining schools more cost-effective. The obvious tradeoff is the closure of some neighborhood schools, but the alternative is cutting elsewhere--school lunches, programs, teacher salaries, materials, maintenance? The district has no choice about making the cuts, and has to make some hard choices about what facilities they might close.

Some of the sites they are planning to sell are buildings like the Old Marshall School, the Fremont Adult School, the old district administration building at 17th and N, or the continuation school in Southside Park at 8th and V. Some of these buildings are historic landmarks in their own right (the first three of the four mentioned) and might work well as "adaptive reuse" projects, converted to offices or even housing. If the district can sell unneeded properties that are not schools, maybe they can avoid having to close school sites, but it might not be enough to make the difference.

I do not believe this story is biased. I believe it to be solid reporting.

The point of reporting on this event was to cover what happened and what was said at the event. The point of the story was *not* to breakdown the issue of school closures or budget problems.

From what was written it is clear that there was a tense mood at the event and that there was a fair amount of fear about potential closures.

And to answer your question... A dance company toured the school. The parents of students at that school feared that the reason the dance company was touring the school was as a perspective tenant of the school's buildings.

This story shows some bias against the district and needs more balance. There is no real discussion about what drives actual school funding. Also, this statement, "Many parents and one of Washington's own teachers were concerned over rumors that 18 months ago a dance company toured the school with the intention of closing down the school. " seems preposterous. Are school administrators posing as dancers touring the state to choose which schools they will crush under their evil pointed toes? Please explain.
