VIDEO: Kings' Cousins and Thompson talk about loss to San Antonio

The Sacramento Kings lost a huge game to the San Antonio Spurs 127-102 Wednesday after falling aprt during the second half. Kings center DeMarcus Cousins fouled out of the game early in the fourth quarter and scored 18 points and nine rebounds and forward Jason Thompson scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. In this video, they both talk about what went wrong in the game, the outlook on the rest of the season and the impressive play of the Spurs.

Thorton leads Kings past T-Wolves 115-99

Tyreke Evans' absence did not seem to fade the Sacramento Kings as they defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-99 Sunday at Power Balance Pavilion. Sacramento’s Marcus Thornton stepped up and had another big game, scoring a game-high 24 points with four assists, four steals and five rebounds. This was Thornton’s second big game in the row after Evans sprained his left ankle in Wednesday’s 124-114 loss against Detroit. Thornton said the defense has been the key to victory during the last two games, especially against Minnesota forward Kevin Love. “We did a great job on stopping Kevin Love, making it difficult for him,” the 6-foot-4 shooting guard said. “Every shot was a difficult shot f

PHOTO ESSAY: Kennedy falls to Berkeley in NorCal finals

Kennedy High School's State Championship run came to an end Saturday as #1 seeded Berkeley knocked off the Cougars 56-38 at Power Balance Pavilion in the NorCal regional finals. Junior forward Lynette Johnson scored a game-high 19 points and senior guard Lori Wong finished with 8 points. Berkeley's offense prevailed and lead the entire game; senior and Arizona State bound guard Elisha Davis of the Berkeley Yellowjackets scored 17 points, which included four three-pointers. The 2012 Sac-Joaquin champion Kennedy Cougars end the season with an overall record of 26-9 and won all of its playoff games leading up to Berkeley. Kennedy holds off Gunn, advances to NorCal finals

In another very close game, Kennedy High School's girls basketball team held off Gunn HS of Palo Alto 44-40 in the third round of the Division I CIF State Championships Tuesday to advance to the NorCal regional finals Staurday at Power Balance Pavilion . Sophomore guard Jessics Lauderdale won the game for Kennedy after making four crucial free throws with just 4.6 seconds left in the game. Kennedy Cougars wins nailbiter to advance in State Championships

The Kennedy Cougars girl’s basketball team defeated the Deer Valley Wolverines of Antioch 58-52 Saturday at John F. Kennedy High School in the second round of the 2012 CIF State Girls Division I Basketball Championships. Third seeded Kennedy had a rough first half filled with turnovers and miscommunication on plays, but those mistakes lessened during the second half against seventh seeded Deer Valley. Junior forward Lynette Johnson had nine points for Kennedy but fouled out early in the fourth quarter after receiving a technical foul for slapping the ball out of frustration. Keeping a winning tradition alive with a new style

Every successful high school sports team overcomes obstacles during its road to success. However, for John F. Kennedy High School’s girls basketball team, its challenges are not necessarily from outside competition, but more so from within. Kennedy, which is second in the Metropolitan League with a 15-6 overall record and 7-1 in league play as of Jan. 28, is going through a transition period with some of its players. This season, two of Kennedy’s top players are playing different positions that they are not used to and are learning their new roles while still trying to lead the team through the season. VIDEO: Sacramento State falls to Davis 23-19 in Causeway Classic showdown

Sacramento State hosted the 58th annual Causeway Classic football game, its rivalry game against UC Davis Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets were hoping to win its third Causeway Classic game in four years, but unfortunately the Aggies did not let that happen as Davis defeated Sac State 23-19. Sac State did not score until the second quarter when freshman defensive lineman Ben Cowger sacked Davis quarterback Randy Wright, causing Wright to fumble the ball into Davis’ end zone allowing Cowger to recover the ball for a Hornet touchdown. Davis however would answer back with a touchdown of its own when freshman running back Austin Edmondson rushed to the end zone from the 8-yard line

Lady Lions 'Roar' Towards a New Season

The inaugural 2010 season for the Mountain Lions was a success and now the organization is preparing for an even bigger 2011 season. Not only are the players hard at work, but so are the new Mountain Lions Cheerleaders. In this video, the 2011 Mountain Lions cheerleader share their thoughts on the upcoming season. The new team is filled with both veterans and rookies excited for what the 2011 season has in store for them. Kings fall apart against Rockets 123-101, Cousins goes down late

The Kings weren’t able to ground the Rockets Monday as Houston routed Sacramento 123-101 at the Power Balance Pavilion. Sacramento got off to a decent start to the game, having a slight 30-29 lead to end the first quarter. The Kings then started to lose their lead during the second quarter, but the third was Sacramento’s worst, as they gave up 30 points and only answered with 16. Power Balance Pavilion was not close to being filled, but the fans who were there showed as much support as they could for their Sacramento Kings despite the team’s struggles. VIDEO: Arco Arena letters being removed at Sacramento Kings venue

The removal process of the Arco Arena letters at the home venue of the Sacramento Kings started Monday with the removal of the Arco Arena sign on the southeast side of the soon-to-be-named Power Balance Pavilion. Arco has had naming rights of the venue since it opened in 1988. In addition to hosting the Kings, the venue has hosted around 200 other events and serves nearly two million guests annually, with local, national and international media. Power Balance specializes in sports performance and was recently selected by CNBC as "Sports Product of the Year" for 2010. The company bought naming rights for the venue last month. Kings could not cool down red-hot Heat, fall 104-83 to Miami

The Sacramento Kings could not stop the firestorm the Miami Heat lit and were defeated 104-83 in front of a nearly sold-out raucous crowd at Arco Arena. Sacramento has lost nine of its last 10 games and has only won three games at home so far this season. Miami increased its winning streak to eight games and has won each of those games by double digits and each of its wins this season were by nine points or more. The Heat have made a turnaround since Nov. 27 after a mediocre 9-8 start this season. Exclusive video: Sacramento State Homecoming game

The Sacramento State Hornets football team defeated the Northern Colorado Bears 42-7 during its annual Homecoming game at Hornet Stadium on Oct. 9. The Hornets shut out the Bears 28-0 in the second half and 14-0 in the first, third and fourth quarters. This victory moved Sac State up to fourth place in the Big Sky Conference. Sac State football routs Northern Colorado at Homecoming game

Sacramento State’s football team showed everyone the meaning of a blowout victory after defeating the Northern Colorado Bears 42-7 Saturday in an exciting homecoming game. With this win, Sacramento State holds a 3-3 overall record and is currently in fourth place in the Big Sky Conference at 2-2. With 9,011 in attendance, the Hornets’ fans rallied behind their team while the visiting side of Hornet Stadium was sparse. River City Gators quietly beat Razorbacks 11-7 and prep for playoffs

The River City Gators closed out their season quietly Saturday after beating the Contra Costa Razorbacks (11-7) at Old River City High School in West Sacramento. The Gators ended their season with a record of 8-2 and have secured the number two seed for the playoffs. They will host the Razorbacks again, June 19 for the first round of the playoffs. Saturday's game was moved to Old River City High School because there were graduation ceremonies being held at River City High School at the time. Mavericks beat Kings 126-108, Evans close to making NBA history

Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyreke Evans put on yet another stellar performance against the Dallas Mavericks at Arco Arena Saturday night. Unfortunately that was not enough to earn the Kings a win against the Mavericks losing 126-108. Evans, who scored 27 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 6 assists, is just inches away from becoming only the fourth rookie in NBA history to average 20 points, 5 rebounds and five assists. He has already secured the rebounds and assists averages and just needs to score 24 points during the final two games of the season to reach the points average mark. Kings players help renovate North Roseville R.E.C. Center

The Sacramento Kings had the day off Friday but instead of relaxing, players were hard at work refurbishing the North Roseville R.E.C. Center as part of the seventh annual Cesar Chavez Day of Volunteerism. It was sponsored by Maloof Sports & Entertainment in partnership with Wells Fargo. The wet and windy weather did not put a damper on anyone’s spirits, including the Kings and the kids at the center. The team's generosity showed inside the center and out in the form of the Kings Reading and Learning Center and new landscape players put in Friday. Loyal fans stand behind Kings despite 114-108 double overtime loss to Bucks

While many sports fans were glued to their television sets to watch coverage of the NCAA basketball tournament, it was March Madness in Arco Arena on Friday as well. The Sacramento Kings battled the Milwaukee Bucks in exciting fashion, but, despite great effort by the Kings, they lost 114-108 in double overtime. The Kings and Bucks exchanged leads throughout the game, but late in the fourth quarter the score was 95-95. The atmosphere was electric during the final seconds as with fans chanting “DEFENSE, DEFENSE!!” Other fans yelled at players to make a 3-pointer for the win.
