Every successful high school sports team overcomes obstacles during its road to success. However, for John F. Kennedy High School’s girls basketball team, its challenges are not necessarily from outside competition, but more so from within. Kennedy, which is second in the Metropolitan League with a 15-6 overall record and 7-1 in league play as of Jan. 28, is going through a transition period with some of its players. This season, two of Kennedy’s top players are playing different positions that they are not used to and are learning their new roles while still trying to lead the team through the season. Sacramento State hosted the 58th annual Causeway Classic football game, its rivalry game against UC Davis Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets were hoping to win its third Causeway Classic game in four years, but unfortunately the Aggies did not let that happen as Davis defeated Sac State 23-19. Sac State did not score until the second quarter when freshman defensive lineman Ben Cowger sacked Davis quarterback Randy Wright, causing Wright to fumble the ball into Davis’ end zone allowing Cowger to recover the ball for a Hornet touchdown. Davis however would answer back with a touchdown of its own when freshman running back Austin Edmondson rushed to the end zone from the 8-yard line
The inaugural 2010 season for the Mountain Lions was a success and now the organization is preparing for an even bigger 2011 season. Not only are the players hard at work, but so are the new Mountain Lions Cheerleaders. In this video, the 2011 Mountain Lions cheerleader share their thoughts on the upcoming season. The new team is filled with both veterans and rookies excited for what the 2011 season has in store for them. The Lady Lions prepare not only to support the Mountain Lions and entertain the fans, but to make an impact in the local community as well.
The Kings weren’t able to ground the Rockets Monday as Houston routed Sacramento 123-101 at the Power Balance Pavilion. Sacramento got off to a decent start to the game, having a slight 30-29 lead to end the first quarter. The Kings then started to lose their lead during the second quarter, but the third was Sacramento’s worst, as they gave up 30 points and only answered with 16. Power Balance Pavilion was not close to being filled, but the fans who were there showed as much support as they could for their Sacramento Kings despite the team’s struggles. The removal process of the Arco Arena letters at the home venue of the Sacramento Kings started Monday with the removal of the Arco Arena sign on the southeast side of the soon-to-be-named Power Balance Pavilion. Arco has had naming rights of the venue since it opened in 1988. In addition to hosting the Kings, the venue has hosted around 200 other events and serves nearly two million guests annually, with local, national and international media. Power Balance specializes in sports performance and was recently selected by CNBC as "Sports Product of the Year" for 2010. The company bought naming rights for the venue last month.
