Awesome, love Two Rivers!
Marie's definitely. Wasn't too impressed with Doughbot, but Voodoo in Portland's bacon maple was delicious!
I'm hoping the City of Sacramento amends their park rental policy to allow commercial businesses who wish to use the park the ability to do so. That would bring in revenue for the city parks department as well.
"Parks and Recreation Director Jim Combs said in an interview Wednesday that parks maintenance has been slashed in the past three years. Over that period of time, more than 50 percent of parks maintenance staff has been cut, and more than half of the general fund budget for park maintenance has been cut, he said." http://cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/parks/permits/lt-field.html From the link above: "A copy of your 501(c)(3) status is required to complete the application process. Commercial activity in a park is prohibited, except by a nonprofit organization pursuant to a fundraising permit." Our city at work!
Here's an idea. The city should allow For Profit businesses to rent the city parks if they need money as bad as they seem to. Currently the City of Sacramento will not allow commercial businesses to rent city parks. It makes no sense to close parks and up taxes when there is a source of revenue available. Priority can still go to youth events and non-profits, but there's still plenty of park space or time to rent to commercial businesses (like the Xoso Sport and Social League) as well.
Haha, thanks David! I think it's one of the best too.
Great article Devin, I can't wait to see how it turns out tonight!
Sure thing! Thanks for reading.
Xoso needs more men to sign up for the upcoming Coed Kickball league that starts next Sunday. Today is the last day to sign up so if you want to play, head to http://www.xososports.com
No worries, I agree with you, and can see how sometimes people need to be reminded that fun things happen here. Hopefully Xoso will be one of those things for a while. Most major cities around the country have a large sport & social club offering lots of sports and drink specials afterwards, so hopefully this will take off in Sacramento too.
Jonathan, drinking at the games isn't allowed, but there's plenty to go around with the free beer and specials at the bar afterwards. Hi William, those are great links. There have been dodgeball groups before, but I think the difference is that this is a full league, not pickup games or one day/night events. Also, it's 21+ only, generally between 25-40 years old. The Tribe.net site has been inactive since 2005 and the Sac State tournament is for students and doesn't cater to the 21+ crowd. It's also a one night event, not a league. It's great that they're encouraging people to play and they have a great turnout, especially from the fraternities and sororities. Mark Murphy of the National Dodgeball Association currently lives in Florida and not Sacramento anymore. Xoso is featured on his site and the NDA is linked on the Xoso site.
Great article Colleen! There are actually 300 active players between dodgeball and indoor-kickball. 180 in the dodgeball league, 150 in the kickball, and some people are playing in both leagues!
Conversation about: New bus service to connect central city, Sac State area
There are private limo companies, airport shuttles, etc. I don't see how this is different?
