My parent live in a very rural area in El Dorado County and they cut down a tree on there property every year. They basically call it "clearing" but they have 20 acres so it will be a lot of Christmas holidays before they ever buy a tree.
This year it was a Ponderosa that sprouted off the side of the drive way and they thought its roots might effect the concrete over time. Not the worst way to do it I guess. Great article Sarah!

Hello all! I just wanted to take a moment to say hi and to wish everyone a very Merry X-Mas and to let you know how much all of your positive comments and energy mean to us, to Cheng and to his family. It truly means the world. On that note, Chi's condition still remains about the same. I wish I could elaborate, but there's not to much to add at this time, other than I know he's pissed and wants the fuck outta' that hospital......................for real, this I know.

.....................that being said, on a night like tonight, I hope that everybody is warm and with the people that they love. Here's to all of you and here's to a wonderful and extremely Happy and Healthy New Year!!!!!!

Much love,

Close enough, I really liked this one because it has so many layers of grime, paint, rust, spray paint, and more paint. Its like a battle that will never end. The interesting thing to me is that in the end it will never be the brick it was, so masking it in small blocks of different colors just makes it look even cooler! In no way do I think its right to destroy someone's property but find it funny the way its taken care of.

I also would love to start a dialog here on sacpress about the use of bicycles and how the city can become even more bike friendly and bike safe.

Hello,

Chi remains in a coma, and as of this morning there's been no significant change in his condition. Last week he was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and transferred to a brain rehabilitation hospital in Northern California. The hospital specializes in the care and management of traumatic and non-trauma related brain injuries with a team of highly skilled therapists, nurses and consultants. He's in great hands.

Please continue to pray for our brother, and thank you all for your love and support.

new update-

Hello Everyone,

Chi's condition is stable, with no real change since yesterday. Our gratitude to all of you for your encouragement and willingness to wait for him. Chi had been at the coast with a few of his siblings and I and forgot to bring the last book he bought. The book, Wake Up by Jack Kerouac, has been brought to the hospital by his wife and we are all reading it to him.

Today's assignment is to be a the sister, brother, and mother to all. When you have an action to take, try to do with that in your mind through your day. You will be continuing the good work done for all of us and our extended family.

What a comfort this is to me and mine. You are so awesome! Please keep the prayers coming! Buckle-up and designate a driver if you want to party. Some lives will be saved today with this small change.

All My Love and Respect,
Jeanne

Chi Update 11/10/08
As you can see from last night's additional update, Chi is showing definite signs of improvement. His father expects when he fully awakes, they'll have to sedate him (again) so he doesn't start pulling out the tubes and wires from his body.

"Again you all are so very much appreciated. God has his hand on our son, please continue to lift him in prayer. For today please forgive someone who has wronged you or wronged yours. Not forgiving is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die. Please continue to stay buckled, show love and spread kindness throughout the day to those around you".

Travis is a refreshing change from the "tight pants, wide stance" movement. I can respect guys who are jibbers because snowboarding isn't all about 100 ft gaps, but god its fun to watch TR ride.
He makes me crave snowboarding like I did when I was 13 years old.

Thats is some serious culinary knowledge in these photographs Sonny. What were some of the food and wine pairing stand outs, scallops must have been served because they are amazingly well prepared at Tuli B.

We just remodeled part of our home recently and the contractor advised us to add CO detectors to list things we should do. I'm glad to read he wasn't adding on items but trying to give good advice. We had all of our detectors hard wired with battery back ups and it was not that expensive to do.
Being a new father and pet owner I feel more comfortable with our choice to upgrade our system. Thanks for the great article Jim.

As well I rarely hear the "on your left" as speedy bikers pass the beach cruiser crew. I try and use the streets such as I, J, 19th and 21st and so on that people are more used to seeing cyclists just to try and put the odds a little more on my side. My biggest fear is riding down J street and watching a car door open as I scramble for the breaks.
One ride home I was riding down 16th towards 160 and as I crossed H a car pulled out from the left side alley way and was crossing into the hotel parking lot. He saw the traffic coming fast and accelerated fast and then slammed on his breaks as he noticed me. He was looking right as he was trying to cross the busy street and I was past his line of sight. It is the closest I have came to being ran over, luckily he saw me at the last moment and knocked me off my bike but no real harm.
To end this story on a warm note... he backed up, never asked how I was and sped off down 16th. another car pulled over to make sure I was alright and then took off to try and get his plates. Luckily I was fine but that is my cycling story downtown. I was riding safely and caught in a bad spot.

I would like to add that Mayor Fargo was absolutely gracious and answered many questions I had. She was not bombarded with people but many people wanted to say hello and wish her well at the market that day. She took time to talk with me for about 10 minutes and discuss local issues, media coverage and community organization in downtown/midtown. I was actually very impressed with her and the staff there on Sunday.
I think it is fantastic that both candidates made time for SSP during a bust campaign season.

I do have a suggestion. Every time I have been to SS it seems to me it has become more and more of a pub crawl than an art exhibit. I appreciate the concept of SS and many of the gallery stops but it is embarrassing to watch Wells Fargo set up booths trying to get people to sign up for credit cards and people walking around with plastic keg cups. The concept is great and a pillar of culture downtown yet I feel the governing body is to loose with there product.
