I guess the question is: Will explicitly telling your audience that a major NBA official has made an announcement on a large news story damage your future credibility? If you're Jim Crandell, probably not. One tweet probably isn't going to destroy 30 years of credibility. But when the station you work for walks like a FOX and talks like a FOX, a little bit of your credibility has already eroded in the minds of some.

I mean we are living in an always-connected world so the instant something breaks we will have known long before the 10 o'clock news. Not sure how many people Jim thought he'd catch by surprise. That said, it caught at least on guy.

Hi. I'm an Internet Radio listener. I think changing the Radio Formats is a good thing sometimes. But What we really need here is more Radio Stations on the Internet. I love the 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's And Today's Music. I really don't like the Hip Hop or Rap Formats. I just like the "Top-40". "Adult Contemperary" "HOT AC" Formats better too. They should just get rid of the Hip Hop / Rap. Formats. But more Radio Stations should be on the Internet also. You guys need some more help too. Thanks!!!!!!!

The NPR demo: Average age is old. The biggest demo group of listeners is age 45-64 and average age of listener is 50. Two-thirds have a 4-year degree and 86 percent are white!!!!
31 percent identify themselves as jazz listeners, 48 percent of female NPR listeners like classical music. Nobody asked them about indie rock.
Median household income is $86,000, compared to the national average of $55,000. Most are male (54 percent to 46 percent) and 66 percent are married.
In other words, NPR listeners are an older, well-educated, well-paid group of white Americans.

According to a few people I spoke with by phone at the station, the main difference between NOW 100.5 and My925 is the lack of 80s and 90s music in the playlist; the difference between NOW and The End is the lack of "rap" and "R&B" in the playlist. NOW will be strictly pop/rock, though the program director admits there's a chance you'll hear the same song on all three stations from time to time.

Nobody watches the late-night shows anyway by TV standards. Conan was getting about 3 million viewers which is less than Glenn Beck but triple the viewership of Keith Olbermann and both are on cable news channels!!!! Why these late-night network hosts get constant media attention is beyond comprehension. Channel 40 has crappy news and this a way of getting some attention before the February sweeps.

After Pops came up to him and tazered mykel from BEHIND. Mykel then fled to the car and proceeded to drive away with a friend in the passenger seat. While trying to leave. Pops the jumped IN FRONT of the vehicle. WHO THE H**L JUMPS IN FRONT OF A MOVING VEHICLE??? And another thing why was Pops out there by himself and not assisted by other security guards. I am not saying mykel was completely innocent because he did some pretty F****D up things that night. But Mykel being a murderer???? Not likely. He was a troubled kid but not troubled enough to murder somebody.

With that being said. That is just a few of the FACTS of things that happened that night.

Mr. Burg, thanks for the info regarding the former Inspector General. I also find it interesting that Acting US Attorney Lawrence Brown, whose letter prompted an investigation of Gerald Walpin, was not nominated to the US Atty General positon. He has dropped down to the #3 spot. I wonder if it's because Mr. Walpin was cleared and Brown's charges were unfounded. It appears his actions assisted Mr. Johnson in getting rid of Mr. Walpin prematurely and perhaps illegally.

Johnson, and even Steven Maviglio, declined to comment.

I hope this public pairing helps the public to become aware of Rhee's ties to Alvarez and Marsal, the auditoring firm that the Mayor said would do an audit of the city "for free." The firm was essentially hand-picked by Rhee as she used them to help her and DC Mayor Fenty take over the school district and start the charterization of DC schools.
I have nothing 'personal' against the mayor. I believe, however, that his past and present efforts are peppered with corruption and fraud, and this has been demonstrated time and again to this reasonably prudent person. Apparently you're unaware of such things, or care to deny their existence. I do not choose to live so ignorantly.

Johnson's campaign was supported by BILL CAMP of the Labor Council, with strong objection raised by other members of the same body. Mr. Camp does NOT support SMI, and now barely supports the mayor's current efforts, if his testimony before the City Council is any indication.

What is it that KJ has done to 'fight tooth and nail' for union jobs??? That's just more of your ill-informed nonsense...

The great mayors of this town, including Anne Rudin, Philip Isenberg, and even Joe Serna (though I would argue whether he was truly as 'great' as his post-mortem hype) and Heather Fargo, did not need a 'strong mayor' platform to 'get things done'. They collaboratively sought solutions to problems and buy-in from colleagues -- they did NOT 'dictate'.

I really wonder what your personal issue is with Johnson...?

I do not care for him, mainly because he has done little as Mayor and that he could be doing a much better job helping those that need help, rather than helping developers and cronies who are already very wealthy...
I love weddings. I wish the two of them the best. But in the back of my mind (or heck maybe even the front) I also saw and thought it could possibly be a publicity stunt. Heck Michael was married to Priscilla in the midst of his troubles and when many questioned him.... But for once I hope it is more than a PR stunt and if this is a marriage of love and truth I do wish them much personal happiness. (but in business I have a totally different opinion) My complaints against Johnson aren't personal - it is business and I hope and wish him personal happiness -- heck perhaps maybe then we'll see better business. Heck a few litle Johnson's running around might cause him to think of the next generation and life and freedom. I think a marriage can sometimes help folks begin to see and think outside a driven nature of stepping on people..... and become less self-absorbed. But I do like weddings and would love to see a happy ending after being shown so many negative chain of events..... I don't wish bad on anyone and I do wish them the best with their long engagment and marriage.

The only thing these two could possibly have in common is a pathological quest for power without having to do the heavy lifting such authority requires. These seem to be compassionless people, driven by a hubris, all hat, and no cattle...

Given recent scandals and the press they attract, and an increasingly hostile sentiment toward this mayor, such a PR-driven photo-op couldn't be a better remedy. Everybody LOVES weddings, and this one ought to make the next season of Bridezillas.

Michelle Rhee is also having her own troubles in DC, for she very well may soon be under grand jury investigation for deliberately over-hiring for the current school term in order to facilitate the firing of about 300 teachers/administrators she just didn't like -- and yes, she's just that capricious.

Where education is concerned she and KJ have a lot in common, both being virulently anti-union, both with little or no actual classroom experience while pretending to all sorts of nonsensical theories about education 'reform', both with membership in the DINO organization 'Democrats for Education Reform' which is nothing but a corporate-funded front group which stands in direct opposition to collective bargaining rights for teachers, and both having served at the helm of schools and/or districts that have misused funds and engaged in significantly questionable, and potentially illegal, practices while running such organizations.

There have been several articles published in DC's local equivalents to the SNR and SacPress that bear on Ms. Rhee's current troubles and past questionabilities that should make for interesting reading as this match made in Hell advances to a wedding day that will probably never materialize, given the probable PR flavor of its arrangement.

I'm not a friend of his, however I had seen him around 5 or 6 years ago and occasionally relatively recently. I was just more angry at the idea that the public wanted someone to pin their feelings of hatred on, rather than waiting for actual evidence. Since, I'd hate to think of myself in his position and innocent and getting this presumption of guilt heaped upon him.

I will definitely be following this case.

I appreciate the fact that we can have this discussion, and although i feel i was unable to get my point across, you most likely feel the same way.

I want to make it clear that i am a gun owner, and a supporter of peoples right to gun ownership.
I do however feel that this is a right that should be excerised with the utmost of care, and that to publicly post a photo of yourself surrounded by some pretty serious firepower, shows a disregard for the serious nature that i hold ownership in.

I didn't say you made the last actions sinister. I'm saying people do. That's a lot of what's happening. People are calling for a hanging before any actual evidence has been produced. Pictures prove nothing other than an interest in guns. If that in and of itself were such a horrible things than most of the midwest and southern U.S. and the central valley of California would be suspicious (the 2nd amendment as well, since it says you can bear arms, so you know it wants to!)

I do concede that he turned himself in, however that isn't proof that he did anything. Only that they were looking for him, and he thought it better to do that, than to hide. I do acknowledge that they've charged him (PC187 and VC20001), however an accusation isn't a verdict.

A photo of a person with guns should be reason to consider him a threat? I don't want to start something new. And by no means am I a gun advocate, although I will concede that I don't see a problem with people owning them. But by your statement, you have a problem and would see as a threat, someone who was doing something that they are allowed to do under the Constitution. How does that seem like a valid argument?

Lastly, I don't think it's a silly activity. The picture says nothing of his ownership or use of the gun. Just that he was near them at some point.

But if he took photos of himself in a bunch of exotic cars, to assume anything less than he was a fan of said cars, or that he wished he could own them (assuming of course he didnt) is ignoring the 500 pound gorilla.

Please point out to me where i said he had tons of guns and used them often? I pointed out that the guns, like it would be if it were the cars you mentioned, shows something that cars dont.

A person surrounding himself in a photo with exotic cars ( regardless of who they belong to) shouldnt disturb anyone.

A person surrounding themself in a photo with guns, with one resting almost lovingly on his chest, is, or should be a red flag. If it's not then nothing more can be said to discuss this because it's a case of you believe one way and i another, which only makes us of differing opinions.

I made nothing in his last hourse sinister, nor did i say i wanetd to convict someone, you somehow reached that conclusion from my posts, so let me clear it up by saying that i merely said IF he was guilty then he should be punished.

IF he is innocent he should be immediately released.

I do however hope you can at least concede that he turned himself into the police as the driver of the vehicle that struck Mr. Fisher, since if he wasnt the driver, they could not still be holding him, even as a material witness, nor could they charge him with PC 187, which isnt in dispute.

But, i will concede that he may be entirely innocent, and i will ignore all other facts except one.
In my charge if you and Mr. Weisz were employees at a site i was hired to protect, and i encountered Mr Weisz's photo with the guns, if i didnt note him as a threat and consider him a security risk, i could (rightfully) be sued for failure to perform my duties.

You want to downplay the guns he surrounds himself with like its some wantonly silly activitiy that commonly occurs. I will concede that point to you only if you can show me similar photos

And I think the fact that the families are sympathizing with each other says something as well. No one is happy with the incident. And where are these agreed upon facts coming from? Newspaper articles with guesstimations as to what happened. Approximations by police? A car potentially hit a human being. Proof or facts is something on the car to indicate that the person was hit, blood, skin, whatever.

I think assuming he had tons of guns and used them often is wrong. The picture shows nothing than at one point he was near guns and a photo was taken. Much as he indicates on his facebook profile that he had driven a bunch of exotic cars. I wouldn't expect, if I had seen pictures of him in those cars, that he owned all of them, or drove them often.

The playful wasn't in the context of referring to the guns. It was in reference to him throwing ice at a bartender. For all we know it was playful and the bartender took it the wrong way, or security or whathaveyou. But immediately when people want to convict someone, they immediately make everything he did in his last hours sinister. It ensures that he is the predetermined wrongdoer before any facts or evidence has been shown to indicate the actual series of events.

Ok Paul,
Here are some facts that arent in dispute.

This person was operating a motor vehicle that was responsible for the death of another human being.
After the incident, this person then fled the scene of this incident.
He is minimally guilty of felony hit and run.

Now,
all that being said, i would like to know the facts as would the people i discuss this with, since they dont rush to judgement, nor would i presume to tell you because my peers say so, this guy is guilty of anything.

You say the pictures say nothing more than he was near guns. If this is all you want to take away so be it.
I can assure you that if this photo was of someone who had been accused of shooting this same man, you would be singing a different tune i think.
You condemn people, calling everything into question, and say dont rush to judgement, but thats exactly what you have done by calling someone who clearly displays warning signs "playful", but that is my opinion, the same as the playful commennt is yours.

The only thing i havent seen you express is sorrow for the loss of Mr Fisher, who was no less beloved than Mr Weisz. That, once again in my opinion, tells its own tale

The agreed on facts aren't agreed on. They're hearsay from a bunch of people who don't have all the same information that the police have. To try and pretend that anyone besides the police have a clear picture (assuming they even do) is ridiculous.

The pictures and story say nothing more than he was near guns, was near an iPhone, wore a tie once, was a playful, possible belligerent drunk (wow that's unheard of for 20 something males), and was back later that night at the club. I've heard no eyewitness accounts of the incident, just rough approximations of what may have happened.

and i quote the writer of this article

"Before this week, he could have been best described as your average, typical 23-year-old male"

How can you even say this when one of the photos shows him surrounded by some serious firepower?

This is NOT a typical 23 year old male. To even make such a statement is misleading. Normal people DO NOT surround themselves with guns, and post it online as a normal picture.

These are the kinds of photos i expect from a disturbed individual who is just one incident away from opening up on a crowd

This should be decided on the facts, but he is, at a minimum a criminal guilty of felony hit and run, and should be treated as such.

As far as rehabilitation goes, i dont like anyone going to prison, but if he intentionally ran over this man, with the end result being death, then its a case of manslaughter at the least, and murder at the most.

If it was an accident, then he at least needs to pay for his felonious actions.

Until I hear proof of what exactly happened and the sequence of events, then there is no proof. Everyone is hearing stories and immediately forming a judgment. How would any of you like that if you were convicted, wrongly or otherwise, to be immediately assumed to be guilty?

I'm not saying I think he's guilty or innocent. I'm just saying I want to hear all the facts before rushing to judgment. It seems as though some would rather go on public opinion...

This is a complicated case that none of us has the facts to comment on. 25 years in prison? How can you make a statement like that without knowing all the facts? I would need to hear the entire story, see photos of the crime scene, know exactly the time line, etc before I could come to a conclusion on the sentence.

Commentator 95811 brings up an excellent point when he asks, "are we a society interested in really rehabilitating people, or are we simply seeking revenge?" Our justice system does fail us often and I personally find it extremely hard to sentence a young 23 year old man to a sentence longer than his life! It was a tragic situation and I think this was a bad decision made by a young man.

Has anyone even THOUGHT that maybe he was trying to escape the body guard since he got in trouble earlier that night and then accidentally hit the security guard as he as being chased? Just a thought. We need to hear all the facts. We just do not know the story yet. Lets keep love, peace, and not hate or revenge in our hearts. God Bless.

I agree with Christopher Williams. Mykel wouldn't do this purposefully. His flight was a mistake made in sheer panic, and he did in the end turn himself in, which does count for something. 25 years in prison is ridiculous and not going to happen. Are we as a society interested in really rehabilitating people, or are we simply seeking revenge? Mykel is a good person who has a lot to offer, and he shouldn't be separated from society for anything close to that length of time.

At the same time, my sympathies to the family of the victim.

I was not a good friend with Michael but more of an acquaintance. All I can say is this...even if this was an accident he made a MAJOR mistake and that was fleeing the scene. Had he stopped immediatley and called the police this would have been somewhat of a different story. In fact, by him not stopping and running away, definitely points to the fact this was intentional. He deserves (and believe you me) will get punishment. I would be satisfied with at least 25 years in prison. Michael's mother is an attorney and she will most likely do everything in her power to protect her son (which any mother would hopefully do), but I can guarantee the justice system will not let this one get away.

I'm not a huge fan of the music 'The End' plays, but it does seem like they're one of the more community-driven stations out there.

This is a nice promotion, and I appreciate the the community contributions of many radio stations; however, it seems increasingly difficult to find something compelling for more than 4 minutes on the higher-frequency end of the fm dial. It's become an ocean of noise. Decisions made by conglomerates to increase profitability - such as full automation - have reinforced this trend. It's sad too, because traditional radio can provide us with unique local flavors of music and compelling musical perspectives.

Throwing a shoe that hits a child in the eyes or anywhere on the head can be very damaging. Other parts of the body may cause less physical damage but In any case it is an infantile act and one that no loving parent would commit.

How in the world does that constitute child abuse? Now whipping with a belt or "taking them to the woodshed" is a whole other issue. If you think they suck you don't have to listen to them. I think a lot of the other morning shows suck, I choose not to listen, I don't want them fired, that's just silly. If you live in Sacramento and you want music in the morning, listen to 106.5, or 93.7 or 92.5.....there's plenty out there.

I’m not sure if you’re so angry that you are not seeing what I am saying, purposefully trying to keep this argument on the wrong topic/trolling, or if I just am not articulating my responses to you clear enough.

I will only give this one more shot. You’re style, and that of GLAADs, of combating this issue is not going to make matters better for you in the long run. You will only get an apology like the one you are getting from the show Thursday morning, a meaningless one . And on top of that you will push people that may have been middle of the road on issues you care about further away from you. It is a lose/lose proposition for everyone involved.

For the record I never saw anything in the broadcast that pointed toward Arnie encouraging anyone to beat their children we will simply have to disagree on this point as well.

Rob and Arnie did NOT attack children!! Arnie made one comment about what he'd do to his kid. The original conversation was just about transgender people and of course people take ONE comment and use it to make it look like these guys condone child abuse. These guys do a 29 hour marathon to raise money for the UCD childrens hospital. They raise tons of money doing that. They have children and their parents come into the studio and tell their stories so that people will donate their hard earned money heaven forbid they ever need UCD for their kids. They ran a feature for years called the Silent Epidemic, in which they brought to the forefront the fact that children get beat in homes across the country, and nobody does a damn thing about it. They collected coats for kids for years, and have always, ALWAYS been advocates AGAINST child abuse. Quit making something out of nothing people. If you want to be mad at them be mad because Arnie doesn't like transgender people. Be mad because Rob has a friend that's transgender, but didn't tell anyone until people got upset because it really wasn't their business. Be mad because Rob and Arnie are the only people in California radio that speak the truth, and don't sugar coat. As for the radio station they broadcast on here in Sacramento....the station manager has backed them because he knows what everyone who listens to the show everyday knows....if they need to be sorry for anything it's the fact they made a mistake and hit a soft spot, but they do NOT need to apologize for advocating child abuse because they did no such thing.

RAD is a morning radio show who have, in fact, insulted and offended multiple groups of people. Obviously the people upset by them are not long time listeners, or else they'd recognise that fact. I am a long time listener, and i completely support their right to their opinion. They shouldn't have to apologise! (i, for one, will not be listening to the apology. Anyone else who supports them shouldn't either. Let them know they have people behind them.) This country was supposed to have been built on the fact that a person is allowed to have free speech and not be forced to apologise for something they say, whether it offends people or not. If you are offended, you simply rant in your car and turn it to a different station. These guys should not be forced to make such an apology by doing the very thing that makes their radio station good. They're not afraid to make controversial statements. They say what they think! Don't we usually praise that? I believe we call it "spirit" and "originality"...."Fearlessness"...."Courageous". And for the record, all three of them, Arnie especially, tend to exaggerate. He'd never promote child abuse. And besides, don't you think you're taking something a bit too seriously when you say "CHILD ABUSE!" when someone says they'd smack their child with a shoe? Now, think.....a radio show, someone known for his sarcastic humor, saying they'd hit their child with a shoe if he ever came into the house wearing heels....well, I'd take that as a joke. And why couldn't he say he wouldn't want a transgender son? That's just like saying you don't want your son marrying a homeless girl. You have certain expectations for them, yes? And certain things you just won't approve of. It's the same as if your child wanted to be a different religion...if you're a strict Catholic or a strict Christian, you won't allow them to practice Wiccan or Buddhism until they've turned 18 and are living outside of your home.
I was a supporter of the G-L-T movements until this. They've gone way too far in taking something so minor and making it serious. Instead, they had to abuse their power and fight the wrong battle. Why couldn't the people against this just suck it up and deal with the comment? Yet again, this country they live in is built on the right of free speech. Without it, we'd be nothing. And guess what? It's being taken away. It's not long before books that offend people are burned (read Fahrenheit 451...it has my arguement down perfectly) and people who have different opinions are imprisoned and killed. You don't think so? Really, this is just the start.

And to add, their employers know full well what RAD is like. They stated that to press, saying that this is normal RAD stuff. Those who oppose have their opinions, just like RAD does....but having an opinion does not mean you must make a dramatic protest and get someone to humiliate themselves. Being responsible for their "actions" means being responsible for an "ACTION" someone does. A statement means absolutely nothing unless it is a threat....which i heared nothing of.

RAD went on the attack FIRST, and attacked CHILDREN.
LGBTs and our allies COUNTER ATTACKED in reaction.
btw. when you attack kids, you have no moral high ground to defend, and LGBTs can be as harsh as we want in retaliation.

I believe in kindness. If you can help another do so if you can not help them seek to do them no harm! The fact is I have seen the blogs! The Gay blog sites are not much better as far as the name calling! The blogs call Rob and Arnie"idiots" "freaks"and Arnie a "fat bastard" This is verbal abuse! From the same group that is so upset and outraged! I did not hear go out and beat transgender children.I did hear Arnie say he would not let his son wear high heels! And that if he did he may toss his shoe at him! He did not say beat him and he said it in a joking way! All I see is a bunch of hate and the story changes from site to site! I find the blogs to be offensive just as much as the show was to the transgender's !So is it ok for them to get off track and call names or is it the same? What changes? Freedom of speech I see that some say it is our right if it don't hurt some one! Well I see the (GLAAD) responds by harming others financially and trying to blacklist them. And name calling,Oh yes and the pre made up letters to the national companies to withdraw advertising contracts with KRXQ a bunch of bull,I did not just have lunch at your restraint! So now they ask us to lie ! To get the companies to withdraw! And the good list and bad list ! What is this for Santa? I don't see that they care about the kids! I see a group that is out for blood ! And just want to make a example out of this show! NCAC aims to educate and mobilize the community against acts of censorship.

Mark…
Companies are very capable of placing their Ad dollars in the right place I agree, however taking your Ad dollars from the #1 rated radio show (by a wide margin) is not smart business. It can also not be truthfully said that these companies would have pulled their Ad money had it not been for pressure from GLAAD. Do you really think that these companies employ people to scan the stations they advertise on to make sure that there is nothing offensive going on?
My point isn’t whether or not either Rob or Arnie would have come around or not, or whether anyone else would for that matter. My point is that by going with the attack first approach you are automatically making that choice for them which is just as wrong as what they said.
All of this still seems to me to be for naught as the show looks on track to survive this and the sponsors will come running back when this wind has blown enough on this subject…I have yet to be told what any of you intend to do when that happens.

Fubar…
Boycotting the advertisers that left is also not the answer. These companies are also doing what they must to survive, no business wants bad press to this degree and though sad it is still a fact of life that this tactic can and will work. If you were to be successful in such a boycott the only thing you would accomplish is more un-employed people and a harder economy to live in.

The only real answer is to educate all parties to be more adult and rational in their thought process and to be able to have a reasonable dialogue with people that do not agree with you.
Two wrongs do not make a right, I am not absolving the Rob, Arnie and Dawn show of what they said, but I will not give a pass to the people that react just as badly without thinking and trying to solve the problem in a constructive way.
