<content type="text">I guess the question is: Will explicitly telling your audience that a major NBA official has made an announcement on a large news story damage your future credibility? If you're Jim Crandell, probably not. One tweet probably isn't going to destroy 30 years of credibility. But when the station you work for walks like a FOX and talks like a FOX, a little bit of your credibility has already eroded in the minds of some.</content>

<content type="text">One thing I've noticed about the Sacramento Press: They may lack a few things that other news websites have, like captions and credits, but that doesn't mean they're not thinking about those functions -- they wait to roll them out until they've perfected them for both their own mission and their users. The team continues to lead in hyperlocal innovation in our area. Kudos to the team, and here's to some more cool features launching soon :)</content>

<content type="text">The only thing that disappointed me about this article was the lack of voice on the side that wants this ordinance to pass. There has to be some support for the ordinance or the city council wouldn't have passed it two years ago. I get that the angle was to spotlight people who want the ordinance changed and to show the effect it would have on small business owners who operate the taco trucks -- and the article does a great job of tugging at the heartstrings of people who don't want to see small businesses go under and who feel for the little guy who might see his business drop drastically.

I'm still left wondering why, though. Why would someone want mobile food vendors to be...well, mobile...every 30 minutes? Who would support that, and why?</content>

<content type="text">According to a few people I spoke with by phone at the station, the main difference between NOW 100.5 and My925 is the lack of 80s and 90s music in the playlist; the difference between NOW and The End is the lack of "rap" and "R&amp;B" in the playlist. NOW will be strictly pop/rock, though the program director admits there's a chance you'll hear the same song on all three stations from time to time.</content>

<content type="text">I feel the lede of this article does not accurately express my opinion as a Sacramento tea lover. Perhaps I just wasn't a part of the survey conducted by the Sacramento Press regarding the feelings of local beverage aficionados when it comes to a shop that sells drinks made from the "Camellia sinensis" plant, or perhaps I feel no sadness because I never got to express Hina's Tea for myself.

I could, however, say that I've heard of Hina's Tea before, and I very much am saddened that I won't get the opportunity to indulge in the retail experience before it closes. It's been featured on our news quite a few times, mostly on our morning product, and they've always been very good to us.

But a sad day for this tea lover, it is not.</content>

<content type="text">"I believe the Sacramento Press should find a balance between pure 'free speech' and what's appropriate for publication. So far it hasn't."

Well, according to you it hasn't. What The Sacramento Press may find appropriate for online publication and what others may find appropriate for publication could be two different things. When you post on their site, you're playing by their rules -- and perhaps their way of playing the game is to allow for multiple perspectives.

You have to understand that when you provide for an open and free forum of communication, comments like "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" will pop up, even IF the publication in question doesn't allow for these types of comments. In the ten or so months that I've known the folks who work behind-the-scenes (and often, in front of the camera too) at the Sacramento Press, I can tell you I've seen multiple instances where they have had to remind comment posters NOT to make personal attacks against a particular publisher, especially when the comment makes little to no contribution to any kind of dialogue between the commenter and the publisher, or the commenter and other commenters.

With that said, I feel you're wrong in accusing The Sacramento Press of allowing comments that are detrimental personal attacks against a particular author while offering little to no value otherwise. As a publication -- online or print -- grows, the attraction of various kinds of people -- including "trolls," as they're commonly referred to -- will undoubtedly be visible, and occasionally comments will slip through the cracks only to be discovered months, or years later, or sometimes not at all.

I think you're making a poor choice in leaving a forum that provides free and open communication simply because a handful of users disagree with your opinion. If you expected The Sacramento Press to be a political megaphone where politicians, and their volunteers, can preach why their ideas are right and everyone else's are wrong, expect that there also exists a fluid, free and public forum for others to tell you why they're right and you're wrong.</content>

<content type="text">Any person or company who owns private property has the right to ask media to leave the premises at any time for any reason. Most media choose to cover stories from the street or the sidewalk instead -- streets and sidewalks are public property.

Also, please don't confuse "TV networks" with "TV stations." Local TV media is different from a network like ABC, CBS or FOX. Chances are, a major television network doesn't care about an apartment fire, but a local TV station would.</content>

<content type="text">I'd like to point out that the freedom of speech granted to us under the Constitution guarantees you that the Government will not interfere with your right to speak your opinions (or so it's supposed to...dunno why we have an FCC regulatory board...). Your freedoms guaranteed under the US Constitution protect you from the American Government, not corporations, underground organizations or individuals.

Freedom of speech does not extend to radio presenters who are granted the ability to voice their opinion by corporate sponsors. It also does not protect journalists from just saying whatever they feel like saying -- hence why we have libel and slander laws.

So when someone says "They're exercising their freedom of speech!" this is only partially true. They're exercising their right to say what they feel like saying without fear of being repressed by their government (...except the FCC). Anyone else is fair game -- as we've seen from the way sponsors reacted when they pulled their advertisement.</content>

I've seen editors ask commenters and contributors to keep their dialogue civilized before; they don't appreciate it when one user attacks another.

<content type="text">With all due respect, I think Sgt. Leong is missing the point of the story that aired.

"There is no requirement that you have to be in a certain physical shape as a condition of employment," a direct quote, verbatim, from Konrad von Schoech with Sacramento Police.

Why is there no requirement for officers to maintain a level of physical shape? Whether it's desk duty or footwork, every officer should maintain a level of physical and emotional strength and health. There's no excuse for our brave men and women of the police and sheriff's department to be out of shape and overweight, whether you factor in body mass index or not.

And why is Sgt. Leong discrediting the opinion and concern of an eyewitness? Is the new norm in the police department to disregard the concerns of the community? I certainly hope not.

And lastly, check out this quote direct from the FOX40 News segment, as spoken again by Konrad von Schoech:

"All officers get paid to work out, on duty, two hours a week."

FOX40 News is not responsible for misinformation delivered by a police spokesperson, Sgt. Leong. But it's a lot easier for a public official to criticize and discredit the media than it is to take action and take responsibility.

As for body mass index -- sure, it may not be entirely accurate, but it's a standard that those in the medical and fitness fields have used for years, and until we adopt something with more accuracy, it's what we have to go off of.

And don't use this excuse of "genetics" for fat cops -- it doesn't fly for our men and women wearing the American flag on their uniform fighting for our freedom at home and overseas, and it shouldn't fly for our men and women wearing the shield on the streets -- or behind the desks -- in Sacramento.

Now, I know the Sacramento Press has a policy of curbing harshly-written comments from readers (just in case they come off as personal attacks), but I figure if Sgt. Leong can get a pat-on-the-back for his opinion which attacks a reputable newsgathering organization for doing their job, the door's been opened.</content>

I think a better course of direction (and forgive me if I'm overstepping boundaries here) would be to make the Sacramento Press available on mobile devices. I think people who subscribe to a data plan on a device like a Blackberry, iPhone or other smartphone would be a better target audience than those who own an eBook reader. An application on a smartphone that would allow the upload of text, photos and videos would be, in my opinion, more beneficial to the growth of the Sacramento Press contribution-wise and readership-wise than focusing on the Kindle (which, lets face it, is still struggling for an "in") which — as far as I know — would only allow for reading and not contributing to the site.</content>

<content type="text">I believe KPOP was the first local station for the Paul and Phil show, formerly on KGBY 92.5.

We have a few 93Rock stickers on the photog lockers at work. 93Rock later moved to 98.5 and became 98Rock, while the station formerly on 93.5FM bumped to 93.7FM. For a while it was Howard 93.7, then Jack FM after Stern left for Sirius-XM Radio.</content>

<content type="text">While I can't say that news agencies don't report on corruption/waste stories out of hopes that their ratings will increase (remember -- in this country, news is a business, even to the Sacramento Press), I think it's important to keep in mind that The Scoop, mentioned in this article, is usually R. E. Graswich's commentary segment on the CBS13 news.

A better segment would have been how much mandatory overtime public workers, such as firefighters, are required to work, then comparing the cost of mandatory overtime pay versus hiring additional firefighters. Those would be interesting numbers to see, rather than a dubious claim of firefighter "sick abuse."</content>

<content type="text">Why would anyone want to spend $200,000 on a loft that's only 500-1000 square feet when they can buy a foreclosed home for way less? I guess that's the price to pay for wanting to keep up the appearance of being "trendy."</content>
