Midtown Squinter, Posted directly below my comment are two articles containing details and facts about the lawsuit mentioned in my comment. Are two sufficient or would you like additional sources? Thank you to TomRunge and YouWantWhat for posting!
Is this the same Allen Wayne Warren that is being sued by the city for failing to deliver on his promises? The same man who was ordered to pay the city damages (and who has not done so yet)? If he truly wants to help the city, perhaps he could pay what he has been ordered to do instead of raising money for his campaign.
Phillip - I pose this question. If a person believes that a marriage should only be between people of the same races, are they racist? Banning gays an lesbians from full equality is homophobia - if the mayor can give one reason on why gays and lesbians should not have full equality, I am all ears. He is trying to use the same arguements of those people that fought to keep marriages like his illegal.
Rosa Parks should have clearly waited at home until the general population decided to vote to end segregation. OH WAIT.... She didn't and the courts eliminated segregation. How soon we forget....
Kevin Johnson has, unfortunately, been very clear about his stance on marriage equality - he believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. What I find extremely disappointing is that in the not-so-distant past, his marriage to Michelle Rhee would be illegal. One would think he would have more empathy for those fighting for equal rights who are continuing their struggle for the rights that he enjoys. Kevin Johnson loves talking about his desire for Sacramento to become a world-class city (I won't even get into that subject) and I don't think homophobia has a place in a world-class city.
Isn't the city currently suing him for failing to complete construction in Del Paso? Perhaps the money he is raising for his campaign could be better spent paying back the thousands of dollars he owes to others, including the city?
Kevin Johnson was not at this press conference because they wanted to show that this is more about the city and our future than the current mayor getting more power. How could a press conference announcing an effort to make a historic change in the city's charter not be the more important event? Given his lack of attendance at council meetings (something he charged Fargo of doing in the last election) and his absence at this meeting, where are his priorities? Here is my question - would the mayor be willing to agree to not let this proposal take effect until the next mayor is elected? I'm not just saying the election, but the next person. In my opinion, that would take Kevin Johnson out of the question and, as the supporters of this reform have argued, allow all attention to be placed on the proposed reform, instead of a person?
The switch of West Campus and Sacramento Charter High seems like a very logical switch. Unfortunately, I know it can be tricky to use logic in these situations, so here are some points to consider: -West Campus has more students that want to attend (and are qualified) than it can currently hold. Sacramento Charter High can hold about 2000 students and currently has less than HALF of that -Sacramento Charter High has been very unsuccessful of getting neighborhood kids to attend - the vast majority of students that attend are from outside the former boundaries of Sacramento High. I support the switch!
I wonder if Kevin Johnson will be able to attend this event or if he will be "out of town" like he has been for so many city council meetings?
Dear God/Allah/Jesus/Xenu/G-d/NoOne/FlyingSpagehttiMonster/Whomever, Thank you for answering one of our prayers! Sincerely, Every Midtown Resident
It was a great festival! Looking forward to next year!
Does anyone know if they updated the pool?
This show was wonderful! Althought I had some doubts before going in, this show far, far exceeded my expectations. It's funny and rather smart - there are so many references/satires of other musicals, we lost count. The cast was fabulous. It was also great to see a sold-out theater! :) Go see this show - you won't regret it!!
I am sad to see Brew It Up close - I used to go there very often. However, and I say this as respectively as possibly, as much as it is important to support local business, local business must always strive to provide an outstanding experience and product to their customers. Me and my friends stopped going to Brew It Up a little over two years ago. Why? The service was awful. It felt like they were doing us a favor waiting on us. It wasn't just once, it wasn't twice, not even three times... it was several times. We are far, far from being demanding - several of us even have been servers. We used to go to trivia nights, but those quickly went downhill. We are far, far from being demanding - several of us even have been servers. Again, I say this as sensitively as possible. I am sad that a business is closing. I am sad people are losing jobs. I hope everyone recovers quickly. Local restaurants - I can't stress it enough: the service your staff provides (or doesn't provide) is such an important component of your business. Never stop trying to get better and provide a better experience!
The show was fantastic - Britney looked awesome and it was a blast. I'm glad she decided to start her tour in Sacramento! :)
It's great to see that our mayor is listening to ideas and part of this conversa.... (what?!?) oh yeah, he decided that going to the NBA Draft was more important.
If KJ could get local leaders to pledge money to keep a basketball team where millionaires pay other millionaires to play basketball, he should be able to find money to save the jobs of people who keep us safe.
Wow... I had no idea California Musical Theatre was in such bad financial shape... Good move city council! CMT is a very important resource for the city.
I saw two weeks ago and really enjoyed it - don't miss it! And... the theater in the West Sac Community Center is awesome!
Conversation about: Plan to restrict Second Saturday street parking causes stir in Midtown
I moved to Midtown over 5 years ago from Washington DC. I find most complaints about parking comical. Parking 3-4 blocks away is not a major deal. If you live in Midtown, part of the attraction is the vibrancy and availability of resturants, bars, theaters, stores, etc... That occasionally brings noise and traffic. It is part of the deal. If you want to live in a quiet oasis, I would recommend looking in other neighborhoods. I have even heard about a magical land called Roseville where parking so plentiful that there are more parking spots than people. Obviously, there are some issues that must be addressed: noise issues, drunk d-bags, litter, etc... But those things are part of the deal that comes with living in a vibrant area.
