Michelle Smira, a Republican strategist and consultant to mayor Kevin Johnson, resigned from her position on October 22. Below is her letter of resignation: Dear Mayor Johnson, It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve as a volunteer in your office, the Office of the Mayor. The opportunity to serve as your liaison to various organizations and to meet with constituents on your behalf has been very rewarding. Thank you for this opportunity. I believe strongly that the people of Sacramento voted overwhelmingly for you to represent us as Mayor because we wanted change. What has become apparent is that we desperately need change. I will be stepping away as a volunteer in your official offic
Gallery to close, Director cites Mayors Actions as Reason Earlier this week, Kim Curry-Evans, Director of the 40 Acres Art Gallery in Oak Park announced that she will be leaving her position and closing the doors of 40 Acres as a result of alleged behavior by Mayor Kevin Johnson. Curry-Evans also announced that she will immediately be resigning from the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. When asked by KCRA, Kevin Johnson reponded by saying that the situation was a personal matter and that St HOPE will determine if the gallery will actually close. Below are the emails that Curry-Evans sent to supporters, St HOPE staff, and members of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission:
The Sacramento Bee reported on Wednesday, June 3 that Mayor Kevin Johnson is relaunching his campaign to change the city's charter from a shared governance model to a strong mayor model. Sacramentans for Accountable Government (SAG), the organization coordinating the campaign, intends to submit petition signatures to the city by June 28. Most likely, the issue will not make the ballot until June 2010. Sacramentans for Accountable Government was formed by Johnson supporters and is largely funded by local real estate developers. In January 2009, Kim Mack (who was the Director of Sacramento for Obama) received a great deal of flack for sharing contact information of Obama volunteers with the
Kevin Johnson was not at this press conference because they wanted to show that this is more about the city and our future than the current mayor getting more power. How could a press conference announcing an effort to make a historic change in the city's charter not be the more important event? Given his lack of attendance at council meetings (something he charged Fargo of doing in the last election) and his absence at this meeting, where are his priorities? Here is my question - would the mayor be willing to agree to not let this proposal take effect until the next mayor is elected? I'm not just saying the election, but the next person. In my opinion, that would take Kevin Johnson out of the question and, as the supporters of this reform have argued, allow all attention to be placed on the proposed reform, instead of a person?
The switch of West Campus and Sacramento Charter High seems like a very logical switch. Unfortunately, I know it can be tricky to use logic in these situations, so here are some points to consider: -West Campus has more students that want to attend (and are qualified) than it can currently hold. Sacramento Charter High can hold about 2000 students and currently has less than HALF of that -Sacramento Charter High has been very unsuccessful of getting neighborhood kids to attend - the vast majority of students that attend are from outside the former boundaries of Sacramento High. I support the switch!
I wonder if Kevin Johnson will be able to attend this event or if he will be "out of town" like he has been for so many city council meetings?
Dear God/Allah/Jesus/Xenu/G-d/NoOne/FlyingSpagehttiMonster/Whomever, Thank you for answering one of our prayers! Sincerely, Every Midtown Resident

Isn't the city currently suing him for failing to complete construction in Del Paso? Perhaps the money he is raising for his campaign could be better spent paying back the thousands of dollars he owes to others, including the city?
