Conversation about: Sacramento gets federal funding for area water projects

But... the federal government is totally broke... they have no money. Their credit is maxed out and they are once again on the verge of shut down. The real story is : where is the federal government getting money to give Sacramento? It is printing it.. or borrowing more from China. Our government has gone rogue. It's scary

Conversation about: Bill Maher: Stand-up Standup

"The light he shines on the absurdity and the shamefulness of the current political and economic state of the nation reveals how much he cares about his country.": Light? Bill Maher shines light? Since when? He is NOT an equal opportunity comedian. He is anti religion and anti morals and anti conservative.. and he makes fun of the president. That is not equal opportunity. Integrity? You think BILL MAHER sets the bar for integrity?? Man I hope yours is a very isolated and rare opinion or we are in trouble..

Conversation about: Council Asked to Place Crime Task Force Ahead of Arena Task Force

I'm with the idea 100%, but actually violent crime is DOWN. Good luck getting politicians to care about crime when all media outlets are reporting it is down and we're in a NON election year. Try again in 2012

Conversation about: Editorial: Crime and the City

"What do you think? Would you, as a Sacramento Press reader, like more crime reporting?" Sure, more crime reporting would definitely pump some life into this austere corner of cyberspace (said with all due respect). I'd also LOVE IT if you guys made your text true BLACK (I shouldn't have to CONTROL+ to zoom -- and lose image quality in the process), not to mention Times or Georgia for readability. Please look to highly readable LATimes.com or AOL.com for aesthetic inspiration. Peace and love, Sac Press. Thanks for this article, DWB. I enjoyed it

Conversation about: Man on the Street: What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful for people who enlist in our armed forces and police, sheriff, FBI, DEA, CIA, Secret Service, Homeland, etc. These are the true heroes of the United States. We enjoy the freedom to blog, to assemble, to speak freely, to choose our political affiliations and so forth because our armed men and women stand at the ready to stop those who want to inflict harm on us. I salute every man and woman who is willing to take a bullet on my and my family's behalf. God bless you.

I voted for Cooper. I worked with him when I was in telecom and he was in the gang task force, and have always had a high degree of respect for the man.

I think the interview was soft. I like The Parrhesiac's questions, and agree with him/her 100% on the types of questions that should be asked

Agree with Keith 100%. Leave the arena (or build a new one) in Natomas. That's the LEAST the city of Sac could do for Natomas at this point.

Conversation about: Mayor confronts council members during long speech

Here's a video of just his comments to the council. http://www.joesacramento.com/2010/06/23/mayor-kevin-johnson-rips-council-after-they-nix-strong-mayor The thing I find most remarkable about his comments is that he himself is guilty of all the things he accused them of.... flip flopping, being non transparent, blocking progress, wasting time, being disrespectful on the dais, talking while others are talking (remember how he was giggling while Rhonda tried to talk one time? I have that video on YouTube if you want to see it) , being focused on the wrong things, etc etc etc etc. I knew he was a rookie but I had no idea he was also overflowing with hypocrisy. Last night Johnson wrote a video book on what NOT to do when in a leadership position. Could be a best seller. I am in agreement that Sandy Sheedy's comment was totally justified. Johnson should think long and hard about what she said because it is TRUE. Johnson "I don't know what we're all afraid of..." They're afraid of your ego Johnson... the one on stage last night for 30 minutes when people wanted to go home to their families and go to sleep... while you flipped through your notes and took deep breaths and "prepared" each person for their lashings ""McCarty I'll get to you in a second.." oy And what Johnson said to Hammond? WOW. Shameful. PS: Johnson's criticism of Steve Cohn was spot on. That was the only good part of his rant

Actually KJ's 31 minute shellacking of council colleagues was not in vain. The next time he asks why people don't support his strong mayor initiative we can simply direct him to the video. He made a better case against strong mayor than anyone to date.

Sheedy's comment was spot on. I have nothing but respect for her for saying it. Took guts.. especially from a lady who supported Johnson's candidacy. Thank you Sandy for saying what was on everyone else's mind!
