The idea would have been safer and more reasonable had the vehicular traffic been one way, Similar to 12th Street. Although the intended speed limit is 15MPH, I doubt anyone will adhere to that speed restriction. The City rushed into this, and as a result we have a flawed execution. The limit lines painted on the edges of either side of the street are supposed to act as limit lines. If a car, pedicab, or other obstruction is on or over that limit line my train will not be able to pass. Too bad no one bothered to measure before the lines were painted, as they were painted UNDER the train, Which helps no one. The concrete pillars at the corners of 8th, 9th and 10th were installed less than 2 feet from the doors of the train. Step off the train and step into a concrete pillar. Change is always difficult for some folks, Including myself. I could take this in stride had the project not been so rushed and poorly planned. Reading the homeless advocates comments, I can't for the life of me understand why Dale, Peter and Tom frame their arguments for services to the homeless as if they are a protected class of persons who are entitled to things like housing, food and a free bus pass. These are things that most of us pay for. Chronic homelessness and the lifestyle that accompanies homelessness is not a disability. Where does our responsibility begin in terms of caring for homeless people? Where does it end? I agree that we need a collaborative effort to get closer to a solution but inferring some type of entitlement creates a divide and stalls any efforts to get anything done. Justin, I am sorry for railing on you. My frustration with everything RT has led my mouth to move before my brain does. Does crime happen at RT stations? In short, yes. I think it's more of a symptom of the surrounding areas rather than the stations themselves. From what I gather, people will still be able to get a bus or train with one caveat- That train or bus route will NOT leave the Downtown area after 9PM. The bus and train still need to come back Downtown (29h & N for bus passengers) and the North Sacramento yard (The Swanston Station for light rail passengers). It's horrible, and I feel terrible for what this means for so many people. I'm turning in my train keys June 19th due to troubled times and a pink slip. My hope is that Sacramento RT reorganizes and comes back strong with a focus on serving the people...after all, in the 70's that is what RT was created to do. Imagine paying the paltry sum of $1.00 to park at the Roseville Rd. Station at 5AM, only to arrive at 5PM to a missing catalytic converter. Another option, which has been discussed or even implemented in Dallas is charging parking fee's to people who drive from other Counties to District owned Park & Ride lot's. If you live in Sacramento County, you park for free or a nominal fee. If you drive your car into Sacramento County from El Dorado or Placer Counties to park & ride at RT lots, you pay a premium over what other who reside in the presiding County do.
