And I might add, Most of us shop and eat here (In Old Sacramento/Downtown Plaza). I make it a point to shop locally in Sacramento when it's much easier and a shorter distance to cross the Tower Bridge into West Sacramento.

I live in Old Sacramento and pay $130.00 a month to park in a City Garage. That is $1560.00 a year! They don't seem to think the residents here deserve a residential parking permit program like the rest of the City.

I got the same email. When I tried to chase down how they got my information I was stonewalled.

Conversation about: Cars on K St - This Saturday

I'm biased, I'll admit it. The idea would have been safer and more reasonable had the vehicular traffic been one way, Similar to 12th Street. Although the intended speed limit is 15MPH, I doubt anyone will adhere to that speed restriction. The City rushed into this, and as a result we have a flawed execution. The limit lines painted on the edges of either side of the street are supposed to act as limit lines. If a car, pedicab, or other obstruction is on or over that limit line my train will not be able to pass. Too bad no one bothered to measure before the lines were painted, as they were painted UNDER the train, Which helps no one. The concrete pillars at the corners of 8th, 9th and 10th were installed less than 2 feet from the doors of the train. Step off the train and step into a concrete pillar. Change is always difficult for some folks, Including myself. I could take this in stride had the project not been so rushed and poorly planned.

We are newly minted denizens of Old Sacramento after leaving Downtown for the burbs about 2 years ago. I'm excited to see some fresh perspective challenging the old guard that seems incapable of making decisions that benefit City residents instead of Council Person's special interests. Best of luck, Steve! P.S. Can we please have permit parking for residents in Old Sacramento? $130.00 a month to park in the 2nd and I garage is kinda crap.

Conversation about: No, Not Everyone Who Lives in Roseville wears Ed Hardy

When does a stereotype stop being a stereotype? We all know that some things are politically incorrect to point out, But the bottom line is that these things are often times true. I enjoyed her irreverent and sweeping generalization of both folks in the 'burbs and on the grid. It was a comedic break from all the madness going on around us. Renaldo Et alia- Have a cocktail and relax.

I'm in Granite Bay after nearly a decade on the grid and your prose is spot on! Simply awesome.

Conversation about: Too many taxis in the city?

Ever tried to get a cab on a weeknight from 10th and J to 28th and J? It's nearly impossible to step onto the curb and hail a cab during the lull of the week. After the front desk at the hotel calls a cab for you, It's been a 35 minute wait. Fortunately for us, We have supported a local cab driver for the last 10 years. Direct dial, No waiting and No scenic routes. Our regular cabbie asks us to report to him when we feel like we were ripped off by another cabbie, Even the ones who work for him. He operates the SMART Cab Association in Sacramento. Sometimes they are so busy we are forced to take Yellow, and Yellow is horrible. No, Sacramento does not have too many taxi's

Conversation about: Cars on K project drives forward

I agree with this project in theory, But how automobiles and trains play together on K Street could be a different reality. As with anything, Automobiles will have a learning curve when it comes to sharing a traffic lane with a train. If we look at 12th Street from Ahern to J Street as an example, Motorists are still learning 25 years later.

Informative article Kathleen! It was my understanding the vehicular traffic would be one way only, From 8th to 12th Street to funnel people towards the Convention Center. From my perspective as a light rail driver, I have a hard time wrapping my head around 2 way train and car traffic. Can you verify if the plan was one way or two way traffic in terms of automobiles? Thanks

Conversation about: Rangers to oust campers on American River Parkway

To answer your question, Sundawg; I have never been homeless, nor do I pretend to know what it is like to be homeless. If those trying to figure out something that helps the homeless folks in town is a joke, Then who do you propose approach the problem? A few leaders in the homeless community have stepped up, But short of that no one seems to be able to answer the questions- Where does our responsibility begin in terms of caring for homeless people? Where does our responsibility end? I don't think anyone claimed to be an authority on the subject of homelessness. Try to be a part of the solution instead of telling the people trying to help they are ridiculous and a bunch of idiots.

As I read the discussion, It shows that people in Sacramento are passionate about what the plan should be for the homeless if any at all. Reading the homeless advocates comments, I can't for the life of me understand why Dale, Peter and Tom frame their arguments for services to the homeless as if they are a protected class of persons who are entitled to things like housing, food and a free bus pass. These are things that most of us pay for. Chronic homelessness and the lifestyle that accompanies homelessness is not a disability. Where does our responsibility begin in terms of caring for homeless people? Where does it end? I agree that we need a collaborative effort to get closer to a solution but inferring some type of entitlement creates a divide and stalls any efforts to get anything done.

Thanks for the heads up Norm. But I have a question- When did we start calling a hate crime a bias crime? A hate crime is a hate crime and obviously committed by someone with a bias towards another person, But I feel that referring to a hate crime as a "bias type crime" deemphasizes the severity of these kind of attacks. I'd like to know how the term was developed and adopted. I have never read of a "bias type crime" in the past.

Conversation about: Do public transit stops attract crime?

Justin, I'm not sure what your intentions were when you wrote this article, but I feel you are mostly off base. I knew Bernice well, saw her several times a week during my shifts driving light rail. I'm sad over what happened, and I can offer no explanation other than the fact that some people these days could care less about another persons life. Edited to remove a stupid comment I made about the author of the main article.

David is correct. Justin, I am sorry for railing on you. My frustration with everything RT has led my mouth to move before my brain does. Does crime happen at RT stations? In short, yes. I think it's more of a symptom of the surrounding areas rather than the stations themselves. The train stations have cameras, and as was proved with the murder of Bernice Nickson crooks have to be pretty stupid to try and get away with much around these stations since they are being monitored. Again Justin, my opinion of your article was childish and I apologize.

Conversation about: Regional Transit lays off 37 employees

Very on point article, Kathleen. From what I gather, people will still be able to get a bus or train with one caveat- That train or bus route will NOT leave the Downtown area after 9PM. The bus and train still need to come back Downtown (29h & N for bus passengers) and the North Sacramento yard (The Swanston Station for light rail passengers). It's horrible, and I feel terrible for what this means for so many people. I'm turning in my train keys June 19th due to troubled times and a pink slip. My hope is that Sacramento RT reorganizes and comes back strong with a focus on serving the people...after all, in the 70's that is what RT was created to do.
