"When are the Operators going to get a furlough day?" Hearing that question from one of Regional Transit's Admisistrative staffers who happens to be a close friend of mine, I had to pause and chuckle. The powers that be at Regional Transit have taken on the arduous task of bridging a 9 Billion dollar budget defecit, and that ain't no easy fix. Furloughs, hiring freezes, unfilled vacancies....the list goes on and on but makes nigh a dent......See, the problem lies with how Regional Transit recieves, and in turn allocates funds from the Fed's and the State. Why are we facing service cuts and possibly layoffs? Simply put, our Operational bucket is almost empty while our Capital Bucket
How articulate! Boo to disisMEXICO.
Uhh....Who would want to read what is essentially the minutes from the Bubbles Car Wash safety meeting. Am I missing something here?
I drive trains. Trains and cars make for a bad mix. One only need to look at 12th Street. Bad idea.
I guess I could deal with cars on K Street, but as a Light Rail operator I have obvious reservations. Stand at 12th and J for more than 35 minutes and you will understand. The part that really baffles me is moving the station around the corner. The Mini high ramp will be at the alley that leads to a pay parking lot and a dead end, close to Greyhound. I could walk to the next stop at 7th and Capitol faster than any car or train during most hours of the day. I just don't get it.
My spin on charging for parking- I think RT should ONLY charge for parking if the area has reasonable and sufficient security measures. Imagine paying the paltry sum of $1.00 to park at the Roseville Rd. Station at 5AM, only to arrive at 5PM to a missing catalytic converter. Another option, which has been discussed or even implemented in Dallas is charging parking fee's to people who drive from other Counties to District owned Park & Ride lot's. If you live in Sacramento County, you park for free or a nominal fee. If you drive your car into Sacramento County from El Dorado or Placer Counties to park & ride at RT lots, you pay a premium over what other who reside in the presiding County do.
