This is my second year as a student at Sac State. It does seem like there is a portion of the student body that does not engage a whole lot in their education, maybe they are not paying for it.

There are overcrowded classrooms, and some of the facilities are quite old. However, out of the twenty or so professors I've had there so far, I personally have been disappointed with maybe two. All of the others have been really engaging and I've gotten quite a bit out of my classes.

Although the tuition may be lower in California than in other states, there are a number of students who were not prepared for the increases, especially within a short frame of time, and are now struggling to find the extra money to pay.

A pop-up that appears the first time someone comes to The Sacramento Press briefly explaining how the site works seems like a good option. It would provide clarity for everyone planning to use the site as a resource or for writing purposes. Everyone will have a clear understanding of how the site works and then make choices about how to use it while being fully aware of the repercussions.

Without the pop-up, it doesn't seem like everyone takes the time to read up on what the site is really about, and misunderstandings are the result.

At the bottom of the pop-up there should be a link that a visitor can click to read in more detail about the purpose of Sac Press, its staff, its history, etc.

Do you know who is using the "Green Goat" locomotive so far? And what is the General Electric "GEVO"?

I'm just curious -- how do you know so much about them?

But I wonder if Willie's, Suzie's or Hamburger Patties are up there for best burger? I'm sure people will scream Jim Denny's, I've heard their burgers are amazing.

I think Centro and Tres Hermanas make really good burritos if I remember correctly.

The last time I had a memorably good slice of pizza it was from Zelda's. I know a lot of people rave about Chicago Fire, too, and Tuli Bistro, I think? ...

In addition to what Ben said, do people think that this will help renovate that region? The council approved $5.7 million in subsidies for the project, so it must have been with the the intention that the it was desperately needed for a good cause, right?

I'm wondering what type of crowd these properties will appeal the most to -- "A giant aquarium inhabited by live, human mermaids." My initial thoughts were, will it bring in one type of crowd and push other crowds out? Is that a good or bad thing, etc. I'm interested in hearing what the community has to say.

Broadway has a lot of unique surrounding businesses--Tower Cafe, Tower Theater, Queen of Sheba, Bali, Andy Nguyen's, R5 Records, the Java Lounge, etc.--but I don't feel like I see people patronizing them on regular basis (afternoon & evening 7 days a week) the way that they patronize businesses on J or K streets. (Then again, I haven't gotten to spend as much time on Broadway.)

How long has the the Broadway Partnership been around? I know Midtown businesses do a great job of planning sidewalk sales and other regional events together that attract customers to the area.

According to the U.S. Gen. Accountability Office in a letter to former Sen. Majority leader Bill Frist in 2004, it stated originally citing 1,049 federal statutory provisions that exclude unmarried couples in a 1997 report; in 2003 they updated that figure to 1,138.

This is what CA family code Section 297.5 (a) states regarding domestic partnerships:

"Registered domestic partners shall have the same rights, protections, and benefits, and shall be subject to the same responsibilities, obligations, and duties under law, whether they
derive from statutes, administrative regulations, court rules, government policies, common law, or any other provisions or sources of law, as are granted to and imposed upon spouses."

"1,400 basic rights that are automatically afforded married couples that are specifically omitted from domestic partnerships" that bbbbmer is referring to, from what I understand, are limitations created by the 1996 federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

DOMA defines marriage as between man & woman only, impacting more than 1,138 federal laws and programs in which marital status is a factor as of 2003 (This figure is cited by the U.S. Gen. Accountability Office).

Something no one has mentioned yet is how Prop. 8 affects a marriage involving an intersex person(someone who can physically identify with both sexes). In California domestic partnerships are limited only to same-sex couples or couples over the age of 62, and as of yesterday marriage can still only be between a man and a woman in the state.

On one hand it seems beneficial to provide a voice in local policy that some members of the public don't normally have. On the other hand, as Savemidtown pointed out, who will be in charge of examining public input and how seriously will it be taken?

Will it be inundated with less useful information than if people came and represented their opinions passionately and directly to their city council?

Will there be efforts to still make city council meetings accessible to those who want to represent their views in person?

I wonder if motorists would have yelled "just jump" to the suicidal individual had he been a different sex, race, age, etc. I'm curious if it was the physical appearance of the individual that caused motorists to take a suicidal person so lightly or simply their impatience during the holidays.

The fact that each individual must raise $3,000 is extremely impressive. How much time are participants given to collect the funding--until the day before the race? I wonder how many participants there are in the race total; it sounds like it will add up to a significant amount of money.

I also wonder how the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center will use all of the funding that they receive, or if there is transparency on how they plan to spend it.
