As part of the $550K spent on consultants to walk City staff through the feasibility/how to finance a new arena, City staff is seeking approval of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify interested/qualified parties to lease out the city’s parking assets occurs at tonight’s Council meeting. Please go comment: In 2006 both measures Q & R to fund an arena were voted down indicating that the public does not want to finance a new entertainment sports complex (ESC) arena. The parking assets route of taking public property and turning it over to the private sector for years TBD proposal should be put on the ballot in June if it is determined to be something Council wants to pursue. amen brother MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. Petty baloney.l
Fred, you are incorrect: The arena and 83 acres are involved in the City’s loan to the Kings. Prior to the loan, the Kings owned the land and the arena. The loan was structured as a lease transaction; ownership of the arena and 83 acres was transferred to the City. The City issued debt ($73 million) secured by the arena, the land, and lease payments from the Kings. The Kings lease the arena and land from the City. The lease payments are equal to the debt service. Power Balance does not own any of the arena. The team sold naming rights to Power Balance. This allows Power Balance to put its name on the arena, and get the associated publicity.
If that's what you want in Carmichael fine, but we don't want it in our residential downtown areas of Sacramento. This isn't Brooklyn... and I don't deserve to be awakened at 4& 5:30 am (nor do people in Brooklyn, for that matter) to "accommodate" rude & unnecessary noise. Let's stop the contrarian rebuttals please. This is advocacy for "noise normalcy" in our neighborhoods. If you'd like to share your street address, perhaps we can direct the earth shaking loud hauler trucks your way at 4AM :-)
Thank you Marion. The "gentlemen's agreement" has resulted in haulers running trucks downtown from 4:15-on. This is unacceptable and the County SWA has been made aware of it. The rule states that an area must be "designated" after the 6 complaints by 3 individuals, before enforcement can be taken. 25 residents of Alkali Flat & Mansion Flats have now complained via letter & requested 7:30 for truck noise to begin in our area. At 6AM it's dark out & many people are asleep. Residents have asked for rule changes & area designation to provide for quiet during dark hours & for the City's code enforcement staff to take action when violations occur.

Everyone certainly has a right to their opinion, but this is such a small matter. I am amazed that people have escalated it to be such a big issue. It's not. What we need to be focused on is the ESC arena that may well be coming down the pike with no solid parking plan. Realize this: traffic is bound to circle though our neighborhood... think about it: 18,000 people heading to the Railyards ESC. How will they get there & where will they park? Will they use rail & bus options? I sure hope so.
