I have an unusual situation. My husband is having a text emotional affair with our marriage counselor, He told me he sees nothing wrong, but he hides the texting. Sometimes they text each other 11 times a day. He is obviously in love with her and she continues to flirt and encourage his "love letters." I went to her for 6 months then brought him in for a couple appts. Then she did some private therapy out at her house and this started. Then she abandoned me as a client. She also sends him pictures of herself (not suggestive, but still). Financially I can't leave now. I feel so powerless.

I have been dealing with this myself. I work in the tech field, and hate what text messaging and facebook has brought. My wife guards her phone like Fort Knox. It goes to bed with her, bathroom when she showers. I caught her last summer texting an ld boyfirend from highschool, I threatened to leave and she apologized and then i caught her again. Now on XMAS day I see that she had been texting a guy she works with and used to go to grade school with. I wrote her an email and enclosed this link. I am so hurt!

So my plan...play stupid, take what I can , collect evidence, get a lawyer and get out with my head held high and my bank account filled! These men now a days just want their cake and eat it too.

For the "Today" artists, I can say that Andreas Nottebohm and his wife Tess are a big influence on my feelings about art. They both in their own way do express themselves as well as being a married couple as warm as their home represents. I have been amazed for the last 5 years watching them grow in many directions. Whenever I visit their home, I feel at home. When I look at the art Andreas creates and recreates my reflection of the art piece I saw before becomes even more exciting. I have had the pleasure of reading Tess's book, Sultry Nights of Blood and Angels, I can feel her expression as well. I am proud to have such wonderful friends as Andereas and Tess Nottebohm in my life.

Great article! It's amazing how so much press was giving to a corporation trying to take out a small business that has been family owned and operated for years. There are so many other places to feature that have opened over the past 2 years including: Sugar Plum Vegan Cafe, Thunderhorse Vintage, Cuffs (new location), Crazy Mary's (move back to East Sacramento), Red Lotus Restaurant (from the same owners as Kru), Le Petit Paris, Gluten Free Specialty Market, Temple Coffee's second location. Why aren't the small businesses supported by our local Sacramento Bee?

It was love at first sight. These are two of the warmest humans I have ever met. We own many pieces of Andreas' work and I love to stand in front and sway back and forth to catch the movement in each piece. Their home is absolutely amazing! Not one bare space on any wall or ceiling. There is so much stuff but it blends in such a way that the chaos creates beauty. They are two very talented people and I am grateful to have them in our life. Denise Weiss

So now what???? It's bad enough that Andiamo's destroyed a stunning historic building in East Sac. Now we have Mike Teel finishing it off. Has anyone seen the inside??? I have, and it is basically a shell of a structure finished off with a wannabe Nugget Market look. It would make a great Ice rink, hey maybe Iceland can move in there, at least the building would have some sort of historic connection to our city. Oh yeah, and maybe mom and pop Teel could finance it . Okay, problem solved.

My husband accidentally left his email open at his workplace. I had to go there to drop something off to him. So I thought while I was there I would check my email. When I typed in the web address for my email account, his email was right there. I saw that someone had been sending text messages from a cell phone to his email. I didn't have a chance to open it but when he noticed I was looking at it he tackled me to the floor. I was very upset. I know this is wrong and invasion of privacy but I downloaded a keylogger onto our home computer and retrieved the password to this email address. I was at work when I checked that email address. His female coworker was sending naked pictures of herself and also videos of herself to his cell phone and in turn he was sending them to this email. I confronted both of them, they both claimed it was a joke. This weekend my best friend came to my house to visit my children and I. She said to me, "You are my best friend and I would never hide anything from you." She proceeded to show me text messages that my husband was sending her. Very Sexual in nature. So, I set him up. I had another friend of mine text him. While she sat next to me, he was sending her naked pictures of himself and telling her that he loves being married to me but I am not into sex like he is and that is a big problem for him. I told her to send him a message back saying that she really wants him and she would pay for a hotel room. He told her that he would pay for one or she could just come to our house. I am sick....He is abusive in everyway. He accuses me everyday that I am cheating on him. I know he must have slept with his female coworker and god knows how many others. I have dealt with this for years. I have lost all my friends, I have lost my heart and soul. One more thing....He is a well know Police Officer. There is much more to this story but I would be writing a book. The worst thing is that I know he feels no guilt for doing what he is doing. He told my friend that he always erases his messages before he comes home and he also told her not to text him until after 4 pm when he is at work. Every morning before I go to work he looks me in the eyes and tells me That I am the love of his life, that I am so beautiful, and other crap....How does someone look you in the eyes and lie.

Jack and Frank, I can very much understand the importance of this story. My dad saved the family farm during the 1930's long enough so that when he was finally forced to sell, nobody else would bid on it, and my dad's brother got it for $1. However, because my dad's mother did not get along with my mother, my dad (our family) was left with nothing. My dad had to start over at another farm a mile east. My dad seldom mentioned it but us kids suffered, being poor when my cousins were doing quite nicely. I never even got to know some of my cousins. To this day, I suffer from this injustice. For years I was angry with my dad, because he was badly affected by this. Thankfully, now I see my dad and mother for the heroic figures they were. Wish you all the best in this.

SacPress has proven to be a real asset for Sacramento; simultaneously providing a reliable alternative news source while providing an outlet for professional and amateur writers alike.

But frankly speaking, these ongoing articles about an apparently one sided family feud between the Nordby and Raley/Teel families make the SacPress look like a news site for crackpots. Once the layers of extraneous and nugatory details are stripped away, we are left with a rather underwhelming tale about a family owned business that didn't give sufficient credit to a consultant that they hired back in '73.

I would be more than willing to trade a 12 pack of beer for the movie rights to the story, just to not hear about this again. Hopefully this is the last in the series....

Not to steal your thunder but "greenwash" is not a "newly coined term" unless you mean that you *just* "coined" it. Greenwashing is a term that has been used for some time to describe the practices of companies who disingenuously spin their products/policies as being environmentally friendly (like Old Soul saying that their coffee is Fair Trade and/or Organic despite it being neither)

Although, you should have heard enough of this civil matter when it began back in the early '90s when it first took place, but because the Sacramento valley is home to the fraudulent newspaper called The Sacramento Bee and other news media, you were denied the ability to hear this civil matter back then.

Speaking about The Sacramento Bee copy this http://i.b5z.net/i/u/1350838/i/Fair_Oaks_family_sues_two.pdf

Thanks Jack for the article. In a small scale way, it reminds me of the time I caught Demetri Pappadoupolis stealing a steak inside of a store. He denied three times he had taken anything and was arrested for shoplifting. He was the son of a very wealthy and prominent family here in Sacramento and this family had strong connections within the Sheriff's department and over the years it was said this family was a big money contributor to former Sheriff Lou Blanas. Were they big contributors to Sheriff Blanas? Contact Blanas and ask him.

To avoid having their son answer to his theft charge, this family spent big bucks buying off those who would turn a blind eye to it all - even the top security man of the company I worked for.

I wonder if this shoplifting report and the arrest record could be located anywhere in Sacramento today? I still have a copy. A copy the Pappadoupolis family didn't know existed. Thanks again Jack for clearing away any doubt about why the Teel's are being so generous with their fraud money.

I can also attest tp Alden's knowledge, insights, and all around great customer service/great & grounded, health conscious orientation. I'm in my early 60's & was having some serious, early morning couldn't stand-up straight lower back problems. Alden put me on the right track and his suggestions resulted in a 250% improvement in my problem after about 2 months. The problem is now a memory thanks to his counsel and the supplements (Inflammarest, Adrena Cort, & Spirulina) he recommended. I've cut down significantly on the doctor's prescription I'd been taking which in & of itself was simply not working. Alden is a great reference point to better health.

Flyers were also distributed to all of the TV news media during Tom Raley's memorial service-downtown Sacramento. Flyers were also distributed to all of the news reporting TV stations camped out across the street from the Sacramento Federal Courthouse during the Ted Kaczynski media circus trial. This story has also been sent to Bill O'Reilly and Tom Sullivan of the Fox News Network and they had no problem closing their eyes to this story.

cogmeyer: Ok, I get it. You won't stop shopping at Raley's-that is your right. Would you shop at a grocery store owned by individuals who robbed a bank many years ago and used that money to open a store? Or how about this: Would you shop at Raley's knowing they are price gouging their honest customers today?

One element of Charles Nordby's profit increasing program was to make sure that when stores were operating efficiently and bringing in good profits, his policy was to make sure prices were lowered so the honest customers would be reaping the benefits of a good operated chain of stores. Look at how Joyce Raley Teel is punishing her honest customers with outrageously high prices.

Go to meijer.com and see how an honest supermarket chain in Michigan (paying union wages) rewards their honest customers with low prices. Meijer is also a privately owned company who doesn't need to cheat their honest customers with high prices.

Attention Raley's shoppers: Keep shopping at Raley's so Joyce Raley Teel can continue to reap all the benefits from Nordby's profit increasing program and make you also help pay for their additional expensive homes in Granite Bay with Raley's high prices.
Your addiction to Raley's high prices also provides the ill-gotten money Joyce needs to lay before the feet of those wearing expensive shoes at the Crocker Art Museum so the fraudulent "Teel" name can be placed on one of its buildings next year.

cogmeyer-this story effects you too if you shop at Raley's. Check your receipt the next time you shop there.

I can understand the frustration of being excised out of existence with regard to deleted comments posted on the Bee's website. They have dug themselves an editorial hole, especially with regard to issues like their support for Kevin Johnson, and a virulently antiunion stance in all industries, but especially in education. They are also firmly in denial about their financial situation, painting their abysmal financial picture in a most favorable light, even to the point of bending the truth into an unintelligible mess. This has not gone unnoticed by the financial community.

There's something in this story that rings true about Raley's, and as was stated earlier, I'd suggest pitching it to a publisher for help in refining it with the aid of an experience writer.

So you are saying a large local company with a huge advertising budget is blocking local media sources from publishing negative stories about them? No kidding!

I guess the other detail I am missing is how this travesty affects anybody other than family members trying to protect the Nordby family legacy. If details on the rise of a large corporation have been misrepresented, I really am not sure that will keep me from shopping at Raley's you know. I have always felt that Mr Roebuck was unfairly overshadowed by Mr. Sears, but that doesn't stop from going to Sears when i need a part for my table saw.

Its been decades, it might be the right time to focus on your own legacy, and let your father's legacy rest in peace. You know the truth, that;s all that matters.

You might want to enlist a ghost writer if you can't remove yourselves enough from the situation to write objectively? Even though its a great story, you sound a little 'too involved' the way this is currently written. Hopefully you can make an effort to put out an ebook of your dad's story- it sounds really interesting.

I did a google search on Raley's and ended up reading other negative information.
The Sacramento Press is an open platform which allows anyone to post without editorial scrutiny before posting. If an article violates our policies it will be removed.

This policy results in some fantastic contributions by the community and some contributions that are less than stellar. We like keeping the platform as open as possible to allow the most content to be created. Each day we select several stories for our front page that we feel represent the best content of the previous day.

If we find that there are conflicts of interest, we insist that people disclose their affiliations in their story, or we will remove it.

If you have suggestions about how we might change our policies to improve the site please send them to feedback@sacramentopress.com. I receive emails at this as well as several other decision makers at Sacpress.

Rhys02-instead of complaining about a compelling true story, dust off your detective talents and try and win the $100,000 being offered in this true story! If you shop in a Raley's store, the next time you walk into one think on this level: Without Charles Nordby, that store you just walked into would have gone bankrupt 36 years ago and wouldn't be called a Raley's today! Although, you probably don't shop in a Raley's store today because you are probably too smart and won't allow yourself to be "priced gouged."

Well, having lots of knowledge about this story, I look at it like that great American movie called "It's a Wonderful Life." I am sure most people are able to recall this movie.

Yes, that great American movie in which James Stewart played George Bailey-an honest hard working man whose Uncle Billy loses $8000 belonging to the business. And how greedy dishonest Mr. Potter found the money, kept the money and didn't return the money to Bailey. Dishonest Potter in his heart wanted to bankrupt Bailey and ruin his life.

Then the movie shows Bailey in suicidal despair willing to throw himself off the bridge until an angel of God appears and shows Bailey how important he was and all the lives he had touched and how their lives might have turned out differently had Bailey not been born. I think everybody knows the story.

Now I have to move from that great American movie to "The Great American Rip-off" article the Sacramento Union newspaper published in October of 1973 highlighting Charles Nordby while he was implementing his profit increasing program at Raley's. Nordby had no idea at the time he would be part of "The Great American Rip-Off" when Collings and Raley's were scheming to rip him off while Nordby was working 18 hours days at Raley's, catching every kind of theft imaginable and turning in reports showing where the Raley's stores were filthy, offering poor customer service and being mismanaged throughout their stores. (My image shows that 1973 article)

Where would the Teel's be today had Charles Nordby not been hired by Raley's in '73? How many more people would Chuck Collings have defrauded had Charles Nordby not shown up at Raley's office door in the summer of 1973? Who would remember Tom Raley's name today had Nordby not cleaned up the tremendous cesspool of theft going on at the time, in all of his mismanaged chain of stores, while Raley was in a tumultuous relationship with second wife Joan? A wife Raley's never wanted to mention in Raley's 1989 history book.

Charles Nordby filed a fraud lawsuit against Chuck Collings, Jim and Joyce Raley Teel and Raley's on November 22, 1994 laying out the scheme in which Collings and Raley's took to entice him to come and work for them. Hey check out the case file and you can see how dishonest Raley's attorney's from the law office of Downey, Brand, Seymour and Rohwer had to be to prevent Nordby from having his day in court. This dishonest law firm, representing Raley's and being Raley's voice in this matter, even had the audacity to claim in their answer to Nordby's 1994 civil complaint that basically Nordby had been harassing Raley's for 20 years.

Sacramento Superior Court case #544344- read the case and you can become the 13th juror. A civil case the dishonest Sacramento Bee newspaper was very much aware of but never, and I mean never, want its readers to know about. Nordby passed away during the appellate process.

Thank you Jim for your comment but you can't burst my bubble. My dad was naive when it came to people he thought could be trusted. He always had the belief "innocent until proven guilty". By the time he figured out that the three men that hired him were thieves, he was ashamed of himself.

Children that become victims of sexual offenders are often naive too, but we don't hold that against them do we? or call them names. But rather we pursue the criminal even more as an example to others. We sure cannot let criminals buy their way out of their crimes and justice, can we Jim?

I guess you could say my dad was in a fantasy land. He was fantasizing what he was going to do with all of his bonus money. Keep in mind, he had nine children and about 30 grandchildren and he had hopes that he was finally going to be able to afford to do some things for them and their mother he never could afford to do before.
You look like you are dressed for the military, Why don't we consider doing a new reality show called "A Battle Against Billionaire Criminals" First it can show Bernie Maddoff, then Allen Stanford and next Jim and Joyce Raley Teel at the Teel Family Pavilion at the Crocker Art Grand opening on 10-10-10. Oh by the way. That is my birthday too. Let's Party Jim.

Sounds like he gave away his "profit increasing program" for almost free.

And just because someone claims to be a "god fearing" Christian, don't buy it, many businessmen use this tactic...trust but verify...get a contract.

Anxious to hear the rest of the story. Ford Motor's theft of the intermittent theft of the windshield wiper reminds me of the story of Preston Tucker in the "Tucker" movie. His car introduced several new ideas in his auto like fuel injection, seat belts, rear mounted engine with rear wheel drive, cyclops head lights, disc brakes, padded dashboard--most of which were eventually tried or adopted by the the auto manufacturers in existence at the time.

He built his car to come out in 1948, but he died in 1956 of cancer. Does anyone know if his innovative ideas were stolen after his death or patents ran out?

I caught my husband opening up secretive email addresses and looked at the history of his computer time. He has profiles and accounts on almost every dating site. I recently caught him texting and calling a number in Georgia. At first I thought it was relatives who live in the area. Then "she happened to call and he would not pick up the phone or answer the message in my presence. I later found texting backing forth between the two of them. He and her both stating they miiss each other, love you, can't wait to talk to you, call me soon, etc.... He blew up of course when I confronted him. I got her number off his phone and called and confronted her. She lives in another state clear across the country. She denied of course it was nothing more than friendship. He said they do not speak anymore but he keeps his phone next to him. I have secretly checked it and he has now gotten smart and erases all his calls. personal and work. There is never any activity on it now. He says they are just old friends but why haven't I ever heard about her? He says he loves her as a friend. He has crushed my heart and I don't know for sure if he isn't calling her and just erasing it. I cannot forgive him and I hate him at times. He says since I have many health issues that she helped him through his grief of his father dying, grandma, and favorite uncle within a year span. He is a me me me person and can be very verbally, emotionally abusive. We have a daughter together and that plus finances is what is keeping me home. I do not sleep with him and in fact we haven't slept together in years. We do have sex but since his father passed he is very difficult to be around. He has promised to go to counseling but has not yet due to work schedule. I am going however and it is making me stronger. So when I do leave which I don't see a lot of hope because of how he is I can be stronger for myself and our daughter.

I do however agree that it is unfortunate that alternative suggestions were not made here. And popularity does not equal validity.

e) you don't like my movie choice. f) you love yourself and nobody does nice things for you
I think people who thumbs down and run shouldn't be able to critique a story with just a gesture. If you don't like an idea, express your thoughts. Maybe I will change the venue from the Capitol building to your neighborhood and everyone can use your bathroom. That would make a great story for the Sac Press. Let's do it!

I'd have to say that first off, if someone is on Match.com and looking around, chances are that they're not all that faithful to begin with. It doesn't help much that Match.com's tagline is "It's Ok to Look", almost inviting that spouse or significant other to test out the waters, especially if they're inclined to cheat.

I've had the same thing happen to me. He should cut it off. Now. Cancel the phone, have her move out if she's moved in. The problem with cheating, emotional or otherwise, is that the trust is destroyed. Trying to gain back that trust is hard and can be impossible. I had an ex cheat on me and 3 years later I would still wonder who they were talking to online, on the phone, etc. It gets old constantly worrying, and it gets annoying for the other person that you're checking up on them. Even though they pretty much brought it on themselves.

In this day and age it's very easy to flirt by text or IM, playfully. It's when it's taken further that some form of emotional cheating has taken place. And oftentimes that can be even worse than actual cheating.

Below is information obtained from the Sacramento Business Journal dated October 22, 1999. This should clear up any misunderstanding concerning the name of Raley Field.

"Triple A ballpark drops an apostrophe to honor Raley" Sacramento Business Journal
Print Email Reprints RSS Feeds Add to Del.icio.us Digg This CommentsThe apostrophe and the "s" are gone.

Raley's Field -- or at least the West Sacramento construction site that will be a Triple-A baseball stadium someday -- is now Raley Field. That way it'll be named after the late Tom Raley instead of after the Raley's supermarket chain he founded.

Raley Field is easier to say than Raley's, says Joyce Raley Teel, the founder's daughter and main owner of the West Sacramento company. But the main reason for the change is to honor her dad." end of article....

If Joyce Raley Teel wants to name the stadium after her late father, why isn't this ballpark named "Thomas P Raley" stadium? Wouldn't that be a better way to honor her father? Bunch of f....... idiots....they paid $15 million dollars for the name "Thomas P Raley."

Also feel free to contact The Sacramento Press (journalism@sacramentopress.com) for additional help in doing research like this. Our journalism support department can help get you information and resources to get the answers you are lacking.

In this case I agree with Trapper, if you co to the following website (http://www.raleys.com/www/feature/facts.jsp) you will see several contact numbers listed at the bottom. I think a quick call might be informative. I would advise taking a very neutral tack.

I would imagine from a marketing point of view, Raley Field was more direct in mirroring the Raley Supermarkets vs Thomas P. Raley Field. I bet if you contacted the Raley's headquarters just down the street from the field and spoke to someone in marketing you would get your answer.

Also, Raley's Field has the highest attendance of all AAA baseball clubs (10,003 per game) as well as over 60 other events held there a year, so that helps make naming rights worth more.

Also, Safeway is more over priced compared to Raley’s and no one’s making you shop at either store.

13 hours is not long at all - I was expecting maybe 3 days. I have never heard of Dominick Dunne either. It seems like you have a way of being at the right place at the right time and you have something in your nature that allows people to trust you right away. I'm looking forward to hearing about Dominick.
