Conversation about: Faith groups open doors to homeless

Great article! I agree the "faith" community should be doing more. Please check out the article I just did today on Project 61, a group of individuals from different faiths & backgrounds coming together to love on the homeless community with no agenda. http://www.sacramentopress.com/headline/39460/Love_Wins_at_Project61

Thank you Christa for that info. I wanted to remind people of the main event, but I welcome everyone else to add comments of other attractions in midtown Saturday night to bring the people in.

Conversation about: New Crocker opens October 2010

Kati that was good to let readers know about this big event. It will be a great day for Sacramento. That happens to be my birthday as well and since i enjoy the Crocker Art Museum I will probably celebrate my birthday there. In fact, all my family and friends will be there too. Something that is worth noting is that the new Crocker expansion will be named The Teel Family Pavilion after Jim and Joyce Raley Teel who donated 13 million dollars to help build this new 100 million dollar wing. After you read my SacPress articles of how the Teel's got their money you will know why me and my family will be there on October 10th, 2010. Great article!

Conversation about: $100,000 Reward- The Pricetag for Justice Part 2

Thank you Jim for your comment but you can't burst my bubble. My dad was naive when it came to people he thought could be trusted. He always had the belief "innocent until proven guilty". By the time he figured out that the three men that hired him were thieves, he was ashamed of himself. Children that become victims of sexual offenders are often naive too, but we don't hold that against them do we? or call them names. But rather we pursue the criminal even more as an example to others. We sure cannot let criminals buy their way out of their crimes and justice, can we Jim? I guess you could say my dad was in a fantasy land. He was fantasizing what he was going to do with all of his bonus money. Keep in mind, he had nine children and about 30 grandchildren and he had hopes that he was finally going to be able to afford to do some things for them and their mother he never could afford to do before. You look like you are dressed for the military, Why don't we consider doing a new reality show called "A Battle Against Billionaire Criminals" First it can show Bernie Maddoff, then Allen Stanford and next Jim and Joyce Raley Teel at the Teel Family Pavilion at the Crocker Art Grand opening on 10-10-10. Oh by the way. That is my birthday too. Let's Party Jim.

Conversation about: The Open hits the home stretch

Hi Tamaradorris, I see that you don't have an answer yet so I would assume it is the same word limit as the rest of the articles that have a 20,000 "character" limit. If this is wrong I hope they will correct me and then we will both know. Write On!

Conversation about: A farewell to comrades

I think every time layoffs happen there should be a party like this to make the final experience as a group a pleasant experience as well. The mixing of emotions is probably a good way for the healing process to take place.

Conversation about: Dinner and a Movie, for the Homeless?

I don't know if a thumbs down for this article means that a) you don't like me. b) my writing is not up to standards c) you don't give a damn about the homeless d) you don't want to help in this event e) you don't like my movie choice. f) you love yourself and nobody does nice things for you I think people who thumbs down and run shouldn't be able to critique a story with just a gesture. If you don't like an idea, express your thoughts. Maybe I will change the venue from the Capitol building to your neighborhood and everyone can use your bathroom. That would make a great story for the Sac Press. Let's do it!

Conversation about: Donnaroo, benefit for local soundman

Come on telehead, go for it! Show Marilyn's who is a bigger man. A donation at the door is a nice gesture, but going on in and enjoying those supporting Donny is really the right thing to do. Who knows, maybe Marilyn's has issues with you and ths could be a great way to put them behind you both. Maybe I will go just to watch peace in action. I love that!

Conversation about: How to avoid plagiarizing on the Sacramento Press

Thank you for sharing that information with your readers. I believe most people want to write was is right. In our last Sacramento Press workshop there was the discussion of using an idea from a news source or another writer to write a whole new article with other sources and with our own wordswithout plagiarizing anothers work. I think Sacramento Press should pull articles if it is an obvious work of plagiarism. Those writers should not be allowed to recieve any Pulitzer Prizes or write for Sac Press for one year.

Conversation about: New layoffs at The Bee: Who?

I think it should be noted how much the McClatchy CEO Gary Pruitt makes in total compensation. Replacing him with an experienced newspaper person could have eased the cuts at the Bee for now. His self induced pay cut of 15% is not sufficient. Gary Pruitt should be given a "pink slip" I agree with Newsmom in that posting there names was not to their advantage. Perhaps posting their names with their job title, length of employment with the Bee and any positive points that could be made about them possibly would have made them feel better about their departure. I will coin this term as a "Jobituary". A jobituary is what is said about a person when their job has died.

Naw, the church doesn't sell guns, but some of the people who go there probably did at one time. Generally people who take the "step of faith" soon realize that guns don't protect in the long run. Only God can, but that takes faith to believe.

Conversation about: Sacramento Ballet Dancers Working Hard To Raise Money and Awareness

For being a dancer and not a writer or journalist you did a great job in conveying this urgent message to many readers. $150k by May won't be hard if all the employees there are like you. Keep writing updates on your cause and I am sure the much needed money will come around.

Conversation about: Editorial: In hard times

David, that was very well said. Sometimes the only optimistic thought or word of encouragement is "it could be worse". I too am an optimist, not so much in putting faith in that things will get back to "normal", because all indicators and those in the know say it won't, but optism in that my loved ones, family and friends will make it through another day. That old church song "One Day at a Time Sweet Jesus" is sometimes the only help we might get in hoping for a better today. Thanks for giving the readers an opportunity to hear that we are all in the same boat, so lets row together and together we will go through troubled waters and get to the other side. I think I'll go to church tomorrow.

Conversation about: More layoffs at The Sacramento Bee

I wonder if these cuts will help in the long run, or is this going to be a slow but inevitable closure of McClatchy newspapers? I think Sac Press came along at the right time.

Conversation about: "Today Show" to Highlight Sac's Homeless

This is a great reminder of the urgency of this problem. There are some good ideas that could help homelessness here and elsewhere. I saw a news story about E.D.A.R (everyone deserves a roof), and it made me want to start a campaign to raise money for this program here in Sac. See www.edar.org Is anyone with me on it?
