This is highly concerning as a parent of two school-aged children enrolled in public schools, which are paid for by all our property taxes. As a family, we have been very concerned about the quality of public schools in general, especially after spending a semester in a private school in Paris, the comparison is hardly worth mentioning. However, as a working single parent, I'm wondering where I'm going to send the kids (day camp) so I can get my work done and not take vacation early and ruin our already made summer plans!

The education system is funded primarily by property taxes and state tax revenue. Both are dramatically down due to declining property values and the state budget crisis. These factors will severely impact education funding for many years.

Our education system is a mess. The budget issues are being felt along the entire spectrum. I am feeling it as a student at Sac State as well in the form of limited class offerings and diminishing programs.

School districts are operating with too little funding as it is. What more can be cut? Won't the students from the school sites that close put further strain on already crowded schools when they're transferred?
