I'm not sure the Choral singers themselves spreading the word was as much of a PR booster as the fact that the Choral Society had the event posted on their website for weeks. Nonetheless, I'm glad everyone is safe and made it out ok. The best flash mobs are the ones with no PR.
It's unfortunate that more isn't being done to enforce this law. The homeless in my area of East Sac continue to go through both my blue bin (which is the only place I would put recyclables) and my garbage bin (where they tear open and dump out my bags of garbage and find no recyclables). They also come onto my property to go through the bins before I put them on the street. It's extremely frustrating and annoying, but there's nothing I can do.
Conversation about: Green waste debate to resume
As far as scavenging is concerned, I just had a conversation today with a guy scavenging through my trash can. He told me that even though it says "No scavenging" on the can, the police have told him he can go through the green garbage cans. I can only assume that since any recyclables found there were not in the correct can and won't be recycled, he can use the excuse of helping further the recycling movement. The most frustrating part for me is that fact that some scavengers don't wait until the cans are on the curb, but come onto properties days before collection to look for bottles and cans.
