Just off Highway 50, in a city far, far away, skaters are strapping on the blades and cutting wide circles around Sacramento's newest outdoor holiday rink. Last summer, Rancho Cordovans surprised everybody by racking up more than 2.5 million votes in a nationwide contest sponsored by the venerable Reader's Digest.  After weeks of online voting, and outpacing cities much larger -- and much smaller --  Rancho Cordova ended up in first place -- and holding a $40,000 check.
